Scam artist - He charges $1,700 to change a garage spring. Be aware - taking advantage of people. The cockroach of the society.

Garage Door Doctor

I asked him if it would take a long time to fix and he said that it wouldn't take more than 5 minutes. I asked him if this would be something I could do myself and without hesitation he said yes and even told me what part I should get. That was the third time I called them in the past 15 years and they have always provided us with great and honest customer service. They did not come out this time and instead helped me fix this in 5 minutes. They could have charged me to fix the door but instead saved me a lot of money. I wish more businesses were like Garage Door Doctor. I am not surprised they have over 700 reviews. They probably don't need another 5 stars review but I really wanted to share the great experience I had with them.

They adjusted and cleaned them, and the door was working again within minutes. What really stood out came next. They had made a special trip out to my house on a weekend and could easily have charged me for the visit. Instead they told me there was no charge. I didn't expect that kind of honesty, and it made my day. My system is old and will need to be replaced at some point. When it does, they're the first call I'll make. Fantastic business and service.

We had an older metal garage door with a panel that had bent, causing the door to jerk open and…read moreclosed. We figured it would stop working completely before long, so we contacted a garage door company we'd used previously to see if they could repair it. They looked at the panel and said it was too old to replace, and that the door itself was in bad shape. They strongly recommended a new door and motor (they said the motor had to be replaced because of a new law passed in 2018, even though ours was from 2015). The guys seemed nice enough, so I believed them. But I wanted a second quote. ABC Garage Door came out next. I didn't mention anything about the first company. Jaime, the owner, looked at the situation and said I didn't need a new door, just the one panel reinforced. I asked, "No new door?" He said, "Well, if you want a new door I can get you one, but you don't need one." He came back the next day and reinforced the panel in 30 minutes. It runs perfectly now, no more clunking. Oh, and the first company followed up with a quote for a new door, still steel. The price? $16,500!!!

As near perfect as you will find. NOT KIDDING. Tony is a…read morekind, honest, hard-working, SMART repairman and will not rip you off. We lost the remote to our garage (long story) and we had to get into the garage right away (long story). I called at least 5 other places. ALL of them wanted to come out and "give you an estimate". ALL of them were not available for days and days. We needed to get in the garage that night. I finally found TONY'S GARAGE DOORS, and - FIRST POSITIVE CLUE- he PICKED UP THE PHONE PERSONALLY (ALL of the others had answering machines or did not answer at all). SECOND POSITIVE CLUE: He agreed to come and work on our garage at 7pm!!! that night because I didn't get off work until then (everyone else was working only 9-5, period- didn't matter the urgency of our situation). THIRD POSITIVE CLUE: He TOLD ME WHAT IT WOULD PROBABLY COST BEFORE HE CAME OVER. HE GAVE ME A PRICE ON THE PHONE. No one else would do that. One guy even told me, "Well...if it's locked from the outside, sometimes we have to knock the WHOLE GARAGE DOOR DOWN and re-build it if we can't get in." (He thought he was talking to a moron). Tony had to replace the outside "vault lock" that is on the outside top of the garage door. It only took him about 15 minutes!! He then had to wipe clean the memory of the first remote and re-program two additional remotes with two additional code settings (long story). FOURTH POSITIVE CLUE - He charged me EXACTLY WHAT HE HAD QUOTED ON THE PHONE -- NOT A PENNY MORE!! It's difficult to find someone like this. He's a local South Bay guy. He drives a nice, clean, professional repair truck with lots of good tools. He will give you an honest and professional job. He knows what he is doing. I can't recommend him highly enough. THANK YOU AGAIN, TONY!! YOU ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!

After a few observations of watching the door go up and down they quickly figured out what the issue was and went to work to fix it and took around 30 minutes. Sam's Garage Doors along with their technicians Jesse and Chris, thank you for your quick resolve and efficiency in repairing my door! Bryan O

Wow I hate when this happens... when you had an amazing experience with a company year and years…read moreago so you return and it's just night and day from the previous experience. Bummer. Our garage door was broken so we called them out. We told them we could only be home until 4pm and they gave us the window of 2-4pm. We made sure we were home during that time. Unfortunately, it was for no reason because nobody showed up or called. We called them and they said they would come tight then and only take a minute to give an estimate for the work. Well no estimate was provided and they just started the work without any communication. When I heard drilling I asked if they were going to provide an estimate or what? And the workers said, ya, it's almost done, it's $450. No approval, no paperwork, nothing. I was late to my appointment and they said we could leave them locked in the garage, but as we were going to leave they kept having to go through the house to get things from their truck. I didn't want to leave them locked in the hot garage but we really had to leave. The whole situation was so incredibly frustrating. Then the office girl called me to collect payment and made it 100 times worse. I was trying to explain to her that the process was really stressful and she said, "ok so then I'll just have them go back and undo everything they did" .... Are you serious? What kind of customer service is that? What a terrible representation for their business. Had she said, "I understand how that was frustrating. We should have come when we said we were/communicated/provided an estimate/explained what we were even doing/honestly anything? It would have been different. Things happen, I get that, but have accountability and communication. It's very very basic customer service. We paid, we're done with them, but we will never use this company again.

A terrible experience with Next Door Garage Door Repair. I am 84 years old, protected by certain…read moreconsumer rights and laws, including those related to elder financial abuse. I've been scammed. I called Next Door's Garage Repair's Eric for a new remote for my Genie Pro opener, having used his services in late 2024 for a garage door spring installation. He quoted $50 for a new remote. When he arrived, I presented him with the Genie remote that no longer worked. Although there was no battery in the remote, he said that he couldn't program it as the 6 device program limit for the Genie Pro was reached, and no further programming could be done. And that I therefore needed a new garage door opener. I later learned that this was a lie. He showed me on his iPad two LiftMaster openers, representing that the prices shown were retail, but if I purchased one that day, a 10% discount would apply. I elected the one for $1,950, and after the discount and added $180 installation fee and taxes, the total was $2,100, which I paid. I later learned that Eric lied to me about the maxing out of the Genie Pro program number limit, as both Genie and other reputable garage door opener installers advised that a further program would simply erase the earliest one, and that an additional programmable remote could easily be done. I also later learned that the retail price of the LiftMaster runs between $280 and $400, not $1,950, and the retail total including installation and the arm/bar/rod runs roughly $600 to $700, or less than 1/3 of what he charged me. Instead of $50. I've never knowingly been scammed or become the victim of a fraud. I am also reporting this to the State Contractors License Board and those entities responsible for enforcing and regulating elderly abuse laws.
