When we were done, we get to pick which glaze color we wanted. The glaze didn't turn out to the color we wanted, but it's okay. Took about 3-4 weeks for the glaze to be ready for pick up. You will be disappointed. Ceramics takes time and patience. This studio has a 24hr membership that makes it easy to come on your own time.

I had a wildly bizarre interaction with Purple Twig owner Samara. We missed the first class in a…read morenew series due to incorrect communication about start dates from the studio; I asked for a make-up class or refund, she refused (citing studio policy), and I said fine, but that that seemed like poor customer service given the error on her part. We had attended the second class (thinking it was the first), and at that class the teacher clearly stated that only three students showed up at class one; I also heard another parent say she didn't know the session had started the previous week, either. Yet then, Samara apparently discussed this with the teacher, then came back to me via email and wrote: "I was disappointed that you knowingly and falsely implied that other families were also misled in the start date so you could get a refund." She continued on to say that my family was not a good fit for her studio, and essentially booted us from classes. Is this not an insane way to do business? I had already told her that I would accept no refund or make-up class, and yet she pushed the issue, all over email. She must hide behind some really nice teachers. I will not be recommending her studio to anyone.

As someone new to pottery who lives nearby, The Pottery Studio has been a great resource. I was never interested in pottery because I have a lot of hobbies and didn't want to add another, but my neighbor asked if I'd be interested and I decided to join her. We have taken three classes so far. The ability to reschedule a class is really helpful when I had a conflict for a regular class session. Emailing to get a makeup class was totally easy and very friendly. All of their policies are clearly spelled-out when you sign up. The only real gap is not receiving an email reminder for a new class with the door code. It hasn't been a problem for me, but with all the missing folks I've noticed on the first day of class, this seems like something that could be automated at low to no cost (and add to their calendars) to get students to the studio on-time. There have been some long waits for kiln times. I have some greenware that sat on the shelf from week two - week four of my hand building class. If I weren't signed up for another class, I would have to ask for access to get my work and hope it would be ok to glaze them. A lot of bisque ware gets abandoned, which is a bummer. I wonder if that is partially the cause or if the journey is the destination for many folks. We love taking classes with Michelle. And we have had make up classes with Laura and Angelica. We have watched Skyler be really helpful and patient with students and members. The ability to come in during non-class times is great. Unlimited access to class clay is fantastic. I wish people cleaned up after themselves and followed the signage more, because I find myself cleaning up after others a lot, but that's what you get in a community environment. I've interacted with a few members who are very open to sharing knowledge. Many other members are working ceramicists and are clearly locked-in, so I try to stay out of their way. Seeing so much of their beautiful work is inspiring. Parking is usually fine, but I am glad I don't live on that street because I do see how it could be annoying. I would be aware of it before I moved in because there is a big sign painted on the sign of this building. It's not stealth or secret. The person in the other review who was recently complaining must be new to the neighborhood because this studio has been open for quite a long time and, while maybe some folks can be described as entitled or whatever, most of the members and students I've encountered are very nice, considerate, and a very diverse group of people. As for the comments about Marshall. I haven't met him, but I did hear his interactions with some staff and realized that he must be the owner (then looked him up to confirm). While not bombastic, his tone didn't sound great when directed at the kiln loader. It was definitely a "yes, Chef" presence. But I've only seen/heard him once in over three months, so it has been a non-issue for me. From a student perspective, if you read the policies and agree to them, there should not be any reason to interact with Marshall. Once class starts, your space is taken and they can't resell it to someone else. I mean, it's pretty obvious why moving you to another month or splitting months doesn't make sense.

It's so gritty and makes everything come out in varying shades of brown, no matter what glaze you use (perhaps the glaze isn't amazing either, I'm not sure). I'm concerned about the management or owner - they can't seem to retain good teachers long term, and that is a bad sign to me. I've heard from classmates & members that the owner has a very unkind and aggressive management style. If what I've heard is true, I'd hesitate to continue to support this business.

Great staff made this such a fun experimental project to do with your best friend! Signed up for the Canvas beach scene resin workshop with a gf and thought we'd be doing a class style art project -- but we found out the workshop was a private class just for us which was surprisingly so nice! Sometimes you feel pressured when there's tons of people around doing awesome art next to you but this private session made us feel more comfortable that it'd just be us creating something unique. Immediately felt so relaxed when Julia and Dana took us under their wing and helped us create a special art piece we'll always treasure. They were so patient and kind and helpful. We don't think we would've had the type of turn out we did if it wasn't for their guidance. Julia especially guided us every step of the way and was so friendly. Do I think some additional instructions would have been more helpful to beginners like ourselves -- yes! But they certainly did offer as much help as we asked for when we were brainstorming ideas for the canvas and that made the experience well worth it in the end. The location was nestled inside a plaza and we did make several bad choices in directions causing us to walk in the completely wrong direction but we called the place and they helped send us their location on Google Maps so we could easily find them. Hint: it's in the plaza with Wushiland but it's tucked away near the Escapology escape room. Easy to park! There's a parking garage in the Paseo plaza and we got our parking validated for 90mins which made parking super cheap. I think we only paid $3 after the validation. After you finish your art piece, we were told to come back in about 2 days for pick up. This was awesome because normally art places have you go back in a week or longer so the quick turnaround was fantastic. Our session was about 90mins which I think is their longest workshop. They have so many different art projects you can do and several are walk-in friendly. We made a reservation on ClassBento which was super easy. They offer all the supplies including aprons. They let us bring in our boba drinks and water bottles. We made 12x12 canvases for about $80 each. They send plenty of email and text reminders before your class. Just give yourself time to park before the class but even though we were a few minutes late they still gave use plenty of time to work on our project. Not only did I love the resin workshop but seeing that they had so many other art projects offered I'm definitely going back with more friends to do more projects. Truly a beautiful studio! The people were fantastic and warm. The timing and pace of the class was great and easy to digest what to do next. I loved how hands on this project was and I think the art work we made was really beautiful in the end and we can't wait to pick up our art and hang them at home. If you're looking for a different type of artwork to make with a friend or loved ones -- this is it! You can't go wrong with any project here. This staff is so amazing and talented that you just feel like you can trust their every suggestion. Check this place out! You won't be sorry! You'll definitely leave saying how much fun you had.

I stumbled upon Sooki Studio while searching for pottery workshops in my area. Depending on…read moretraffic, I live 5-10 minutes away. They also double as a supply & stationery store, so I had to check them out! I parked on Blake Avenue, a 6-minute walk along the LA River bike path. They were easy to locate, given their close proximity to the river and ample signage. The property is spacious, with the supply store and stationery section located at the front entrance. Behind this, the ceramic studios are set up toward the back, making it easy to explore the shop before heading into the studio area. The shop is charming! They offered goods from artisan clay to rustic twine. Exploring the shop was delightful. I bought a compact toolbox and a sleek folding knife. Gift cards are also available. Thank you, Gina, for the hospitality! The Armenian coffee was delicious and I look forward to attending a workshop. Support local and women owned businesses!
