A group of four of us scheduled a class for two of our birthdays on November 7th. Our first class. It was so great. We loved the instruction, the experience, the cool studio, the shop they offered and the fun we had together. We put our names on a piece of paper under our pots and they told us they'd email us (technically just the one of us that made the group reservation) when they were ready in about 30 days. The email never came. It's now been exactly 60 days. And we called today and they said they have zero record of us and didn't even have a class that night AND they also said they didn't have our pots. All four of them. There were two other people we didn't know in the class and I'm wondering if they're having the same experience. We sent them the receipt of our class and payment and they agreed to give ONE of us a free class. We spent a pretty penny there that night as a birthday treat and this has been such a bummer way to end it. I'm disappointed in the lack organization and record keeping and REALLY disappointed in their customer service after the mistake was made. I don't recommend this spot anymore. At least not if you want to keep your pottery. Attaching a pic of us at the class they claim didn't exist.

3 cheers and 5 stars for Nicole! She's an amazing teacher who makes the class fun and goes step by step with everyone. My partner and I had so much fun and even though it's not easy, we really enjoyed our first pottery class and learning from Nicole while meeting other cool people. It's a great way to make a friend, learn something new, and/or give a fun gift. You can celebrate a bday or an anniversary.

I went to their intro pottery wheel class as someone with no pottery experience and had a great time. The class was a little large (which is why it's a 90-minute class) but the instructors are knowledgeable, there's plenty of room, and it's a good bit of fun. Fantastic experience, great value ($65pp). Keep in mind that it takes about three weeks to pick up your finished piece!

I just recently finished my 6 weeks course with Jaimee a couple of weeks ago and had an amazing experience. She was incredibly patient, super informative and just overall super kind. I also had a great time with all the other ladies that took the course as well as the other staff members, who are all super friendly and cool. Attached are some of my finished pieces. Highly recommend!

Just finished the multi-week wheel throwing class with Lisa and it was amazing! She gives very clear instructions and checks in on everyone throughout the class. Great for beginners with little to no experience. The studio is also open to use during the weeks you're taking the classes, which is great. Can't wait to take more classes in the future!

100,000 stars for Cobalt & Clay! I just finished a six week wheel throwing course led by the amazing Lisa, and I have to say the overall experience was fantastic. Sign up was easy, and important details, like scheduling and rules, were communicated clearly and efficiently. The location is easily accessible from Eagle Rock to Echo Park, and has ample street parking. The studio itself is clean and inviting, and the classes are thoughtful, thorough, and professionally led. I look forward to signing up for a monthly membership so I can hone the skills I've learned over the last six weeks. A big thank you to Lisa and Nicole for everything!

If you are trying to throw a fun & private pottery sesh, THIS IS THE PLACE TO DO IT!!! Another studio in the area, which shan't be named, cancelled on me the day before my partners birthday! Yeah some major stress was had, but Nicole at Cobalt & Clay saved my booty. She was so nice, got back to me very quickly, especially considering how last minute my request was, & was very communicative. Even though my dumb dumb friends ran late, Nicole made sure we all got to finish our pieces. During the actual class, she was very good at explaining technique & made sure everyone's pieces looked correct throughout the process. Nani (I am so sorry if I am misspelling here) was also terrific! Nani made sure to assist with anything we needed & was so patient. The studio itself was welcoming, large & had more than enough space for 9 of us. The cost was also very affordable especially compared against other studios in LA. I truly can't say enough about Cobalt & Clay. Go get those fingies into some clay!

Took a one time class and kit was so cool. The instructor was so clear and made each step very beginner friendly. We made bowls of whatever style we wanted. Really fun! Could see how learning how to make pottery could be an addicting hobby. Can't wait to pick up my creation in a few weeks!

My very first lil pot! Very proud of her.

My first time throwing and I am obsessed! I've always been curious about making pottery but was always a bit intimidated by the learning curve...turns out I had nothing to worry about! Nicole, the owner, was *everything* - informative, fun, and dedicated to teaching our group of beginners how to handle our clay! The experience was so much fun and I got a pretty neat little piece out of it. I can't recommend Nicole and her studio enough, and I can't wait to go back!

Bought my friend and myself a one time throwing class for her birthday. It was on a Sunday from 10am-11:30am. Our instructor was Nick, and he was great!! It had been awhile since I used the wheel, and it was my friend's first time. Nick did a great job explaining each step, and telling us what we needed to pay attention to. He was very attentive in making sure each of us was on the right path, and gave advice if we needed to do more or less of something. Even though there were 7 of us, he was still able to keep a watchful eye and help us when we needed it. He also made sure everybody was caught up before explaining the next step, so you never feel rushed or like you were getting left behind. Since this was a one time class, we weren't able to paint the bowls that we made, but we did get to choose a glaze. Super excited for when we get them back. I would definitely want to invest in taking the 6-week course next time. Highly recommend giving this class a try if you've never used a wheel before. It could be a cute date, or even a fun family activity. Keep in mind that you do have to reserve a slot online in advance, and this class is limited to 10 at a time. It does get a little messy, and you do have to put in some work, so I would wear comfortable clothes that you care a little less about. But I also didn't have a problem with the clay not washing out.

Hi! For the "One Time Throwing Class", this is my first time doing any kind of pottery. I saw under FAQ there are tools we need before class (basic pottery toolkit and a small bucket), is this already provided for One Time class participants?

Hello! Yes, all tools and materials are provided for this class.

Nicole, the owner, likened wheel throwing to learning another language and I thought of that often when I made errors.

The area is new to me and I very much enjoyed some of the shops.I am a guy who at one time only had experience eating in South Central Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, Long Beach and the Hub Cities. I do love these cities and I am happy to experience new unfamiliar places like Atwater Village and Silver Lake. Molly was there to kindly greet everyone, guide the children to complete task and behave, teach craft and chat with the adults. I enjoyed being in her class and I enjoyed seeing my little nephew complete his project. You can tell Molly has experience and education working with young children. On the walls we saw paintings and various drawings made by children. We did an Autumn seasonal craft project with paper, wooden wreaths, glue and various other decorative items. They have no-meter warning on Sunday, all other days there is a 2 hour maximum at a meter which can be paid by quarters or credit card, I do not think they accept EBT. Plenty of parking that day and other parking available if you are willing to walk. There is a garden area out back with rocks and a bench and the sun and air flowing in. I enjoyed the experience very much so as did many of the people I met there. I think the price range is fairly reasonable for the uptown people of this affluent area though maybe not for this downtown kind of guy. I do plan to come back in this area and I would highly recommend this place to any Hipster parents who want to keep children entertained for a while and want to help develop their children's vital skills.

She was kind and helpful, and you can tell she really loves and knows her craft well! It was an intimate setting, and it was a fun experience to learn about one process of candle making. At the end of the night, you get to go home with your own hand poured candle that you created. The intention setting part of the workshop was very peaceful and created an opportunity to reflect on the past year and be intentional about something you'd like to foster for yourself in this new year. Excellent class and I'd return to this studio for another one. However, $70 may be a bit steep for some for a workshop like this.

Our experience at Renaissance Arts has been really good. This school is different, and personally,…read moreI am thankful. My son told me, "There are no bullies at Ren Arts". I can see why. The staff is strict and they somehow manage to do what our previous school was not able to do - keep the kids feeling safe. When my kids started, I sat in on many of the classes to help one of my kids adjust. Almost every day for a year I went to the first 2 classes. In a large 8am singing class meant (I imagine) to gather the kids together and provide structure while stragglers arrived, I watched the teacher nip every potential behavior problem in the bud with, "I hear someone talking. If someone is talking while X is asking a question, then we can't hear X's important question". Or, "If you aren't participating then we are missing your voice. We need your voice". Everything here is based on the idea of an ensemble. And the importance of the individual within the ensemble is stressed. The ensemble performances that they do twice a year are truly amazing. Imagine being thrown in with different groups of students in your school twice a year to perform. Part of the reason there is no bullying is that you bond with your fellow cast members. There are some overarching mission statements that you see over and over again that are unique and heartwarming. For example, although there are no tests, they have a lot of essays to write where the kids have the opportunity to express themselves. They are told that there is not right or wrong answer and they just want to hear their ideas. They are often asked to reflect on themes and the teachers don't feel like they have "the answer", but rather are excited to hear what the kids come up with. It feels like college level teaching. To me, this is exciting stuff! I sat in on a second grade humanities class and felt like I was in college: a group of 8 kids plus a teacher sat around the table and discussed King Lear. The kids had so much to say about the age-appropriate rendition of what they were reading. The school also has a social justice bent and the themes of their shows often reflects current events. One of the high school students told me that they read the constitution every year in high school and every time she finds something new. So yes, there is much here that is going to look different from your typical school. It functions differently and so the form will be inherently different. I feel that as long as the child is happy, that is the best gauge of the fit of the school. And my kids are happy here.

To add to this, we needed to be buzzed in so we could enter the premise. Once we were inside, the ambiance changed completely and there were a couple of IG worthy spots to take pictures while checking in. We opted for the spinning art experience since my daughter is too young to partake in the more elaborate ones. Originally, we booked for 4 people but one person got sick so we asked if we could transfer the funds for that person for another experience since there are no refunds. Luckily, was able to contact them the day before and added the bunny paint pour over experience. Ozzie was our guide and he was super kind and gentle with my daughter. We were instructed to pick 5 colors and then we donned our plastic bootie covers, apron and gloves. We entered our designated art room and was blown away by all the colors on the wall. There was even a tire swing which my daughter was all about. The spinning art experience was a lot of fun and I enjoyed seeing my daughter embrace the paint. I think her favorite part was when she had free rein to paint all over the walls. Overall, we had a great time. Only down side is that it does go by super quick and is quite an expensive experience for one hour. However, we get to have a treasured memento which is ready for pick up about 5 days afterwards and we did have a great time. That being said, #noragrats!
