Had such a fun time at Cobalt and Clay! I went with four friends for the beginner pottery class, and it was the perfect pace, just enough time to learn the basic throwing techniques without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. Our instructor was so sweet and super helpful the whole time. She really made sure everyone got some individual attention. Definitely recommend! read more

Cobalt And Clay Ceramic Studio - All done! Beginner's class - Art Classes Near Me - Los Angeles, California

Sarah was a great instructor! Street parking was relatively easy to find on a weekday at noon, and our class was 6 people so it felt pretty intimate. I went in a bit intimidated having never done pottery before but was happy with my results from the class. There is also a wide selection of glaze options for the item you choose to make. read more

Had a wonderful time at Cobalt & Clay's beginner pottery class for making a bowl on the wheel! We came here for a late valentines day celebration and it was such a great experience. The instructor was very knowledgeable and taught the class step by step, making sure no one fell behind. The instructor was very attentive to everyone and helped everyone out individually through the class. We both made little cute bowls and then at the end we got to select a glaze color - we will be picking them up in a few weeks when they are done! We will definitely be coming back for their classes! read more

I was brought here for my birthday and it was a fun experience! I've taken a class in Pasadena before and that instructor was not as informative as Vonnie (sp?). I was struggling for a bit and Vonnie was nice enough to help me fix my pot. There's street parking only. There's a bathroom at the studio. read more

A group of four of us scheduled a class for two of our birthdays on November 7th. Our first class. It was so great. We loved the instruction, the experience, the cool studio, the shop they offered and the fun we had together. We put our names on a piece of paper under our pots and they told us they'd email us (technically just the one of us that made the group reservation) when they were ready in about 30 days. The email never came. It's now been exactly 60 days. And we called today and they said they have zero record of us and didn't even have a class that night AND they also said they didn't have our pots. All four of them. There were two other people we didn't know in the class and I'm wondering if they're having the same experience. We sent them the receipt of our class and payment and they agreed to give ONE of us a free class. We spent a pretty penny there that night as a birthday treat and this has been such a bummer way to end it. I'm disappointed in the lack organization and record keeping and REALLY disappointed in their customer service after the mistake was made. I don't recommend this spot anymore. At least not if you want to keep your pottery. Attaching a pic of us at the class they claim didn't exist. read more

I went to their intro pottery wheel class as someone with no pottery experience and had a great time. The class was a little large (which is why it's a 90-minute class) but the instructors are knowledgeable, there's plenty of room, and it's a good bit of fun. Fantastic experience, great value ($65pp). Keep in mind that it takes about three weeks to pick up your finished piece! read more

3 cheers and 5 stars for Nicole! She's an amazing teacher who makes the class fun and goes step by step with everyone. My partner and I had so much fun and even though it's not easy, we really enjoyed our first pottery class and learning from Nicole while meeting other cool people. It's a great way to make a friend, learn something new, and/or give a fun gift. You can celebrate a bday or an anniversary. read more

I've taken two classes so far at Cobalt and Clay and they were both great! I took a one-time class with Corinne and the 4-week beginners class with Lisa. The one time class was a really fun date night! There were lots of options available for scheduling and it was a really good value with the price. Corinne was very helpful and approachable, I felt comfortable asking questions and would definitely take a class from her again! After that experience, I wanted more and signed up with a couple friends to take the 4-week beginning throwing class. As Lisa told us up front, it moves quickly, but you learn SO much along the way. You also get access to book open studio hours while you're in the class, and I cannot recommend that enough. I went in 2-3 times a week in addition to my class time the first couple weeks, and I felt like I got a lot more out of the course as a result. Lisa was a fantastic instructor--funny, down-to-earth, and really helpful. The class was small enough that she was able to help people individually with problems they were having and even extra stretch goals they wanted to achieve beyond what you typically make in the course. I would have signed up for the next 6-week course with her but it was already sold out! Overall, would definitely recommend both the one time and 4-week beginning classes at Cobalt and Clay. read more

I just recently finished my 6 weeks course with Jaimee a couple of weeks ago and had an amazing experience. She was incredibly patient, super informative and just overall super kind. I also had a great time with all the other ladies that took the course as well as the other staff members, who are all super friendly and cool. Attached are some of my finished pieces. Highly recommend! read more

I took a 4 week introductory throwing class with Lisa and absolutely LOVED it. Going into this course, I was pretty nervous given this was my first time using the wheel, but Lisa is truly the best. She's sweet, funny, and arguably the most patient person in LA. I'd say what I appreciated most is how she starts with preliminary instruction for the whole class and then offers more individualized help for each student as needed. For example, I was REALLY struggling with trimming during the third class and felt like Lisa gave me extra attention to make sure I got the hang of it (and I did!!)--and on multiple occasions she'd stay over the allotted course time to make sure you finish whatever you wanted to get done. I enjoyed Lisa's class so much that I'm waiting for her 6 week class so I can take her again!! 100000% recommend this to anyone interested in trying out pottery read more

Just finished the multi-week wheel throwing class with Lisa and it was amazing! She gives very clear instructions and checks in on everyone throughout the class. Great for beginners with little to no experience. The studio is also open to use during the weeks you're taking the classes, which is great. Can't wait to take more classes in the future! read more

100,000 stars for Cobalt & Clay! I just finished a six week wheel throwing course led by the amazing Lisa, and I have to say the overall experience was fantastic. Sign up was easy, and important details, like scheduling and rules, were communicated clearly and efficiently. The location is easily accessible from Eagle Rock to Echo Park, and has ample street parking. The studio itself is clean and inviting, and the classes are thoughtful, thorough, and professionally led. I look forward to signing up for a monthly membership so I can hone the skills I've learned over the last six weeks. A big thank you to Lisa and Nicole for everything! read more

Went shopping at the holiday sale this past weekend and had a wonderful experience! Was so amazing to meet all the artist and see the beautiful art they create. If you are trying to throw a fun & private pottery sesh, THIS IS THE PLACE TO DO IT!!! Another studio in the area, which shan't be named, cancelled on me the day before my partners birthday! Yeah some major stress was had, but Nicole at Cobalt & Clay saved my booty. She was so nice, got back to me very quickly, especially considering how last minute my request was, & was very communicative. Even though my dumb dumb friends ran late, Nicole made sure we all got to finish our pieces. During the actual class, she was very good at explaining technique & made sure everyone's pieces looked correct throughout the process. Nani (I am so sorry if I am misspelling here) was also terrific! Nani made sure to assist with anything we needed & was so patient. The studio itself was welcoming, large & had more than enough space for 9 of us. The cost was also very affordable especially compared against other studios in LA. I truly can't say enough about Cobalt & Clay. Go get those fingies into some clay! read more

My first time throwing and I am obsessed! I've always been curious about making pottery but was always a bit intimidated by the learning curve...turns out I had nothing to worry about! Nicole, the owner, was *everything* - informative, fun, and dedicated to teaching our group of beginners how to handle our clay! The experience was so much fun and I got a pretty neat little piece out of it. I can't recommend Nicole and her studio enough, and I can't wait to go back! read more

Cobalt And Clay Ceramic Studio - My very first lil pot! Very proud of her. - Art Classes Near Me - Los Angeles, California

I came here as a beginner student with no throwing experience. The teachers are very patient. I took two five week wheel throwing courses and it was not easy for me. Nicole, the owner, likened wheel throwing to learning another language and I thought of that often when I made errors. I would like to return again soon. Yes, it is difficult for me but there's something very satisfying about making a little bowl that you can then use in the kitchen. It was a great outlet for me. I will say that when I went to the open hours, I felt like a fish out of water. Many of the people there are excellent ceramicists. However, be patient with yourself and give it a chance. I also took my young daughter to a couple of parents and me courses. We loved it. It was small enough to get good feedback from our instructor. This is a small business and I'm happy to support it. read more

Bought my friend and myself a one time throwing class for her birthday. It was on a Sunday from 10am-11:30am. Our instructor was Nick, and he was great!! It had been awhile since I used the wheel, and it was my friend's first time. Nick did a great job explaining each step, and telling us what we needed to pay attention to. He was very attentive in making sure each of us was on the right path, and gave advice if we needed to do more or less of something. Even though there were 7 of us, he was still able to keep a watchful eye and help us when we needed it. He also made sure everybody was caught up before explaining the next step, so you never feel rushed or like you were getting left behind. Since this was a one time class, we weren't able to paint the bowls that we made, but we did get to choose a glaze. Super excited for when we get them back. I would definitely want to invest in taking the 6-week course next time. Highly recommend giving this class a try if you've never used a wheel before. It could be a cute date, or even a fun family activity. Keep in mind that you do have to reserve a slot online in advance, and this class is limited to 10 at a time. It does get a little messy, and you do have to put in some work, so I would wear comfortable clothes that you care a little less about. But I also didn't have a problem with the clay not washing out. read more

Never did this before and we went for a friend's bday! We had a large group so half would go while the other half hung out. There's a large table so you can bring snacks and stuff. The instruction is wonderful and they're very patient. Pottery is an art, therefore, shut up and listen to instruction and be patient lol. It's physical so wear clothes you're ok with getting dirty (from the clay) and sweaty (gotta do a lot of pushing n moving). A+ recommend for creative party or if you just want to try a new craft! I'm not artsy at all and had a blast! Thank you! read more

My pottery experience first started as a date night with the husband for a 2 hour wheel throwing session. I had such an awesome experience that I decided to take a 6 week throwing class. I had Nicole as an instructor and the classes was definitely fun and insightful. From kneading the clay, learning the proper technique of wheel throwing, trimming and finally glazing them, by the end of 6 weeks I felt a sense of pride and develop a sense of appreciation in my imperfect perfect pieces that I made. The staff are patient and knowledgeable. The location is great, ample street parking. The studio is nice and clean, very welcoming. Plus they have a cute storefront which sells some of their previous student's pottery work. So give them a try and you'll love it so much, you'll sign up for ANOTHER 6 week class just like me read more

Hands down the best beginner pottery class in LA. I've taken beginner classes at other studios, and this class nails it. At first I was unsure about the pace of the class - it seemed slower than my other beginning studio classes. But I soon recognized the value in focusing on the essentials. For example, we spent 3 classes on centering alone, one of the basics of throwing on the wheel. Sam taught most of our classes - she's absolutely amazing. I learned so much from her, and she was always incredibly kind and patient. And what I learned from Nicole in 1 class was also wonderful (the other reviewers nail it!). It's a bit more of a time/money commitment compared to other beginner wheel classes in LA, but it's absolutely worth it. Run, don't walk! to sign up for the beginner's wheel series. read more

This is a fantastic studio! Nicole and Lisa are so kind, funny, and skilled, and the studio space itself is very peaceful. I always looked forward to class and learned so much. Update: I've been a member of Cobalt and Clay since I took my first intermediate class last February. The studio is wonderful - Nicole is so supportive and friendly. They often offer special topic-driven workshops and events. The firings are often and consistent - an issue I've had with other studios. I've been super impressed with the studio's response to the COVID crisis. My quarantine pod has been extremely cautious - but I felt that the measures that Nicole took to keep her members safe were appropriate and sane. I'm looking forward to being back, and I'm grateful for the solutions that Nicole has offered for people to keep on claying.
