The office folks are nice but pretty useless and unhelpful due to the way MaineHealth forces them…read moreto organize. I've only seen one provider since Dr. Mellon left and I absolutely will not be back. I tried to call the office manager to discuss my issues with my visit but no one seemed to care enough to call me back. So in an effort to give you ladies in the community a heads up, don't go see Erin. She was hurtful, insensitive, non-listening, and rude. She judged me for not having health insurance and refused to discuss or schedule any services aside from what I was there for even though I made it perfectly clear that I had the cash on hand to pay for my care and did not want to go to family planning as she repeatedly directed me to do. She then expressed concern that my birth control choices weren't permanent enough without knowing anything about whether my husband and I wanted kids or what our situation is. And let me tell you - your women's health provider implying that you shouldn't be having children is incredibly hurtful whether you want them or not. She then recommended I take folic acid just in case I got pregnant and followed that up with, "Not that I think you will do that." THEN she spent the majority of my appointment trying to convince me to cut wheat out of my diet. When I resisted, she told me - someone who has been dealing with stomach pain for over five years and done a ton of work on altering my diet and isolating problem foods - "Well, if it eventually hurts enough maybe you'll consider it." A health provider gatekeeping pain tolerance and mental/physical health balances is incredibly insensitive. At this point she was straight up snapping and clearly just looking to get the human scum out of her exam room as quickly as possible. I almost got up and walked out but I didn't want to have to reschedule. I wish I had, though, as she definitely wasn't gentle and then blamed the pain I experienced during my visit on me. SO, LADIES - do not go see Erin at PenBay Women's Health. She's a bad provider and she's rude and you will leave feeling awful. Erin, I hope you see this and realize that how you talk to patients is exactly the opposite of helpful. You've lost your practice a patient.
