The layout of the store makes it easy to move around and find what you are looking for without getting overwhelmed by the selections. Elli's friendly and welcoming nature makes you want to stay just for conversation. Everytime I go in there I feel as if I never left the neighborhood. I have learned so much from her and always love her selections and recommendations. Since I found her I have only had 2 bottles of wine that I did not like for myself, but were loved by my guests when I served them. So no loss for either. She has recommended wine for a wine tasting I did 10 years ago and friends still ask about those wine. I make sure to tell friends about Elli's Wine cellar. Her knowledge about wines and the grapes that make them is immeasurable to me and I am so glad I met her. I no longer live in Weymouth but I try to get in there to see her (and buy wine) when I can. I never leave with less than 2 boxes and as I have already stated never disappointed. Life has kept me away in recent years but I am making a trip to see Elli soon. Hopefully I will leave with enough to hold me over until the next time I have a gap in my busy schedule to make the trip to Weymouth. I would love to catch up, say hello, enjoy the conversation, gain more knowledge about my choices and of course to leave with my regular purchase of the best wines I have ever purchased anywhere. For example, I was in a couple months ago and had a great time talking to the gentleman (older, clean-shaven) working. He pointed me in the direction of a couple neat bottles I wouldn't normally have thought about, and his recommendations clearly came from knowledge and understanding what I was interested in. I went back tonight (Friday November 7), though, and despite two employees (a heavier man with a goatee and a woman with bangs and glasses, both middle-aged) working, I was in the store for ten minutes looking around without either of them saying a word to me, despite both of them coming within five feet of me. Not a "how are you?" "can I help you find anything?" "I'll be right with you". Literally nothing. There was only one other customer in the store in that time -- I put my bottles back and walked out. If the owners/managers read this, definitely worth talking to these two -- I've spent plenty here in the past, and customer service this poor was a big turn-off tonight.

Unlike other stores, every item is clearly labeled so no fun price surprises at the cash register. They have a very good selection of beer, and if they don't have what you're looking for, they will order it for you! They also gave me a 10% discount for ordering a case. The Belgian beer I get is 5 cents more across the street at Trader Joes (big whoop) but the 20 minutes Of peace I gain by not having to venture into that madness and wait in line is priceless:) plus trader joe's only has but 1 flavor.

Well we got there and we realized it was just a liquor store, their tasting took place in a little corner by the register on a small plastic table and consisted of one red and one white bottle of wine. The little shpiel about the wine and the tasting itself took maybe 2 or 3 minutes total. Not really quite what we had in mind. Probably not worth the 45-minute trek across town but on a positive note, we did find a great little Asian fusion restaurant/bar/lounge that made the trip worth it. And on the other hand, if I lived in this neighborhood, I'm sure this would be a really great place to pick up a bottle of wine or other "spirit" on the way home to match with dinner.

They smell like hops and really that should probably be a candle. Long Live Roxbury is like late stage brewery-dom, it nails all the little details. Lots of wood-y colors, communal tables and a kind of industrial chic vibe that is required reading for this kind of place. It also helps that the beer is pretty stellar. And this is coming from someone that thinks IPAs taste like dish soap. Somehow they managed to turn that flavor profile into something appealing and it is not a small feat. Just a nice chill place to hang out and enjoy. It's also tucked in this little industrial nook, which maybe adds to the charm, even though it's not the easiest place to get to. Only thing they're missing is Eastern Standard pretzels and beer cheese and it'd be perfection.

FH Liquors is an excellent example of a small business with very little behind it that strives to serve it's customers with good customer service and products they want. I will go here all the time. I'm not a wine snob, but I got some okay bottles (Riojas and Temparanillos stick out in my mind) for under $20. With a wine-vending grocery store right next to my apartment and Trader Joe's boasting tasty reds under $10, though, there's not much of a draw for me to hit a boutique wine shop.
