Excellent selection of wines and bourbons priced just right, and awesome customer service.

This is a classic wonderful neighborhood business. They are great to newcomers and locals. They are no frills and have a sawdust on the floor kind of ascetic. Prices are very fair as well as they have a long history contributing to community needs and individuals. They have a moderate rejection but just ask and often they can order and have in hand for you unless it doesn't sell. Sadly, the neighboring Foodies, a more of a modern hipster vibe grocery store has exaggerated pricing and lied when they first came into the neighborhood. They promised to never consider selling spirits, wine or beer. But like do many they lied and with generous " contributions" to campaigns miraculously got the once impossible Liqour license. Do Foodies helps local politicians while Aka helps local resident's and at lower prices. Oh and the family & staff treat every Man , Women , child or even furry pets like friends. Hole in the wall liquor store. The guys are helpful. It is a bit cramped in there but they do have a good variety for selection. They even have a $850 bottle of scotch. Prices arent that much more than the suburbs for their selection. When girl scout cookies are in season they can be found here! read more

This place is great. They have a great selection of bottled spirits and are always friendly and helpful. The prices can't be beat in Boston proper. The only drawback is that the shop is very crowded, both in the way it is merchandised and with customers. Big plus, they are dog friendly! My dog loves going in there and getting Slim Jims. read more

Okay well first off I live in Southie about a block from this place and they delivered me beer jameson and a two liter of ginger ale in the middle of a snow storm. K thanks, Also, I am five feet tall so the store is scary due to the fact that things are stacked really high and tippy like throughout the store but i love it there and the owner orders me wine I like if they dont have it. If you don't like Al's Bottled Liquors, then I don't like you. Prices don't get better than here. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They work hard to keep a varying selection of beers and liquors. I used to be partial to Southie Liquors, but Al's has taken over as the best liquor store of the area. They have often rotating delicious beers, including my recent favorite Cisco Brewers. Also a large selection of liquors, and good prices. What really makes me feel good about spending my money there (other than the buzz) is the friendly neighborhood service. Be careful with parking however, the reason you were able to pull right up to the door is because that is a bus stop. read more

yes yes yes. I recommend everyone in southie buy their liquor here. The people that work at Al's are SO friendly its almost painful. They are always willing to help you find a specific kind of wine or give suggestions on what might taste good together. Their prices are also really good. I am on the border of southie and the south end and would choose al's over anything in the south end where everything is more expensive (unless looking for more extensive wine selections - then check out wine emporium) The woman who works during the day is my personal favorite, but they are all great. Also, just a tid bit for you, they have been organizing the store a bit better lately - not that it was ever that messy- and got new floors. IF you avoid going at one time though, i would say 4-5pm cuz it gets pretty crazy in there. (ok i obviously buy a lot of liquor - don't judge.. ) read more

I work right around the corner from Al's and often stop in for a (large) bottle of white wine after work on my way to my best friends house for some girl time. On every occassion, Al's has gone above and beyond ANY other liquor store I have experienced to accomodate exactly what you're looking for. Also, if they don't have EXACTLY what you're looking for, they're usually happy to order your particular brand, or are phenomenal at offering you something very similar at almost the same price. With very friendly staff & great prices, I have always left Al's with a smile on my face. It sounds corny for a liquor store, but It's refreshing that there is quality customer service without the hassle or having to ask for it. I have been into this place three times now and all three times have not gone well. First time I went in was to look and see what they had for a beer selection and maybe buy something. Sure they have a huge selection of beer, wine and spirits, only problem is there seems to be no organization at all. The fridge doesn't seem to have any categorization and the boxes are staked so high and deep I'm not even sure where to start looking there. Some of the wine labels are so dusty they are hard to read. I settled on some random craft beer and left. Second time I went in to get some cooking cherry for some clam chowda' I was making. Long story short it was right behind the desk the whole time and the two people in there could not find it. I myself finally spotted it after 15 minutes of them looking around the store. Disorganized maybe? Third time was the last time I will ever go here. Just wanted some Sam Adams Lager, easy enough. After 3 minutes of looking in the fridge where I thought it should be, it was all the way down randomly stuck in between some domestics... right. Go to buy and the cashier working actually said to me "you are wasting your money on that stuff, it sucks." Hmm, alright then, so I asked the cashier what his favorite beer was and he said "Bud" without hesitation. Wrong answer buddy. Even though Sam Adams is certainly not my favorite craft brewery, they still need to be respected for who they are what they have done for the industry. Anyways, I payed the dude, left, and haven't been back since. 3 strikes, you're out. read more

I have to say the employees at Al's are great. I've always liked this gritty, no frills, neighborhood liquor store. They are always helpful if you don't find on the rack what they might have in the back. I think last night told me I can't go back. 3 of the team didn't have masks on. 1 customer didn't. While the stacks of boxes throughout don't lend itself to social distancing, I'd be okay with it if all had masks. Sadly, I don't feel comfortable going back. read more

For cold beer (unless you want a 30 of bud) this is not the place to go. It's a hole in the wall packie made smaller by the mounds and mounds of boxes they have out on the floor. Hardly any fridges and not a decent variety of bottled beer. If you need wine or liqour you should make out okay. I will say the staff are all very friendly, and when I couldnt get a 12 pack of Shipyard Pumpkin, en employee created one for me out of a 24 case. Ran me $17 though, so a tad pricier than the bigger package stores. read more

I remind you that 5 stars is "As good as it gets" and in Southie or the surrounding area, there's no better than Al's. Keg prices are the best in the city (only a store in Medford has been cheaper in my experience) and the staff is always friendly and helpful, though they'll let you know you're a pain in the ass if you hem and haw too much. Even though you might not think so at first, their stock is cycled very consistently and you'll be pressed to find out-of-date beer. My one knock on this place is that the wines towards the coolers in the back of the store tend to get spoiled faster. This is likely because of the exhaust vent overhead. It should be noted, that this is always the cheap stuff, so really, you're not missing out on much. To reiterate, Keg or Beer, go here. For wine, don't waste your time (you'll not find better in Southie, but you're probably better off elsewhere for the harder to find bottles.) read more

I love Al's. It's not pretty to look at...it's not well-organized...and let's be honest, it's not for those who consider themselves to be claustraphobic! However...that being said - Al's has low prices, a good selection (there is cold storage in the back for those who have questioned the cold beer selection...all you have to do is ask). They have a lot of wine, but it's obvious that's not what people frequent Al's for (just take a look at the 1/4 inch of dust on some of the bottles...hey, it's aging!) Personally, I love the staff here. I had a question about making a good version of the St. Germain's cocktail. The clerk gave me some tips and told me to not be afraid of using a lot of ice! He was so right and my drinks came out as good as I've had in some of my favorite haunts. I prefer Al's to a place like Kappy's. Sure Al's is super cheap but its a true dump. It's like a labyrinth of boxes stacked a mile high that feel like they could teeter over and crush you at any moment. It's not exactly clean and a few times I have gone here the beer I got was expired. I also have asked for certain seasonal beers here when I couldn't find them and was informed very rudely they were either not in season yet or already out of season which wasn't true as every other place had them, just own the fact you are out of stock! read more

These guys are great, they go above and beyond for their customers! I ordered for delivery a bottle of liquor as a gift and the called and said it was out of stock. They delivered the rest of the order and about an hour later they found the bottle I needed, called back and brought it right out and even gift wrapped it for me. Best liquor delivery in Southie, hands down. I've ordered a few times from Bayview Liquors and they are rude, take forever and are often wrong. Southie Liquors is fast but expensive. Al's is the best. They are fast, reasonably priced, have a great selection and the drivers are awesome. We always order a case of Corona Lights and a handle of Titos and it shows up quickly and is very reasonably priced. This is also the only liquor store in Southie that was able to get me a keg of Peroni for a house party! I hope they stick around forever. Love this place. read more

This place is a total mess, but the staff is very helpful if you can't find what you're looking for. They will also order ANYTHING your heart desires. My husband and I are from Texas, and James orders Shiner just for us. They go out of their way to please their customers, and the price point is perfect. I was surprised by the diverse selection available at Al's. Granted all the liquors are precariously perched on two skinny shelves that line the entire perimeter of the store- high above the reach of the average customer. There seems to be no organization of these liquors...a few scotches here, a few bourbons there. You just have to look around for a while. Eventually I found everything I was looking for, including fancy bourbon, and just climbed up onto a cooler to get it. Though the middle of the store is piled high with 30 packs of bud light, there are also a couple better beers, like slumbrew and goose island, featured near the front counter. read more

Great little place. Went in tonight looking for a bottle of Duckhorn and they had it at not the cheapest price I've bought it for but very reasonable. I'm not sure the fellas name who helped me out but, he recommended a bottle of Canvasback "from Duckhorn Vineyards" it's absolutely delicious. I didn't know about this particular bottle but, I do know. Thank you to the staff for the great help and they are definitely a bunch who has a great sense of humor, if your in the area I highly recommend stopping by this little gem, great selection with great people working which is hard to find in Boston. Compared to the nearby liquor stores Al's prices on beer and hard alcohol cannot be beat. They often have a case of 24 beers of some rotating type for just $20 and it is not cheap beer like High Life either. The staff is also very friendly and personable. The store is packed with inventory and it is often stacked high, but that is a good thing to me. I would prefer a cramped space with lots of selection over a store that only has a few options but a cleaner aesthetic(Apple I am looking at you). read more
