I parked the car and my friend went up to hold our already paid for seats. When she walked in a gentleman brought out the manager and the manager "Ruth Anne" red hair was so extremely rude to her. She said have you looked at the clock? The show had started slightly and she said she couldn't seat us. My friend asked a couple more questions and she threatened to the call the police. The police? Crackers Comedy Club is a location with 40+ years of history in Indianapolis, and been on my bucket list since I first discovered comedy. They finally got back to me after a few months to perform an open mic night. I was stoked, and hadn't done a venue this big since pre-COVID. As an Indy native, my parents first date was at Crackers, so it was important to me for the sentimental value to be sharing a stage that had previously contained so many greats. That said, saying management has lost track of their priorities would be an understatement. Specifically Brad Rigler, the manager/self-proclaimed headliner for the night. He kicked me off stage 2 minutes into my set for the "F word" at an Open Mic night. Fair enough, I showed up a few minutes late and didn't read the rules, as I'd done open mics before. And Brad didn't tell me the rules when I asked prior to my set, just where to sit and where my friends can buy tickets. I would have gladly cleaned up my set, but Brad didn't give me or any of the other 4 comics he personally kicked off a chance to adapt. At this point, it was fair. Rules are rules, I understand places have reputations to maintain and cursing is unfortunately used often as a crutch in comedy. Then Brad, again, the manager, made his intentions clear as the closer with 8 minutes of the most uncomfortable set I've ever seen. Making rape/racist jokes to my friends in the audience. He then proceeds to use the F word himself on an audience member's girlfriend after some deserved heckling. The mental gymnastics Brad had to do to justify his behavior is the only noteworthy talent he has, and I applaud him for that. Let me be clear: I don't think there is a "line" in comedy. You're either funny or you're not and the audience will let you know it! That's how we improve our sets. Brad was not funny, and took his weak, sensitive ego out on his prisoners for the night. The silence after his "punch lines" was the loudest silence I've heard in my 7 years of comedy, his transitions were sloppy, and his jokes hacky/recycled. I guess you could say a perverted racist pedophile was not our "cup of tea". We were all uncomfortable and wanted to leave, but couldn't because Brad/management only had one server in an audience of 100+ people. Which would make sense as I think Brad knows people wouldn't stay for his set otherwise. Well done Brad, you clever minx. We were trapped. About 10+ people left during his set because they were lucky enough to be checked out early. We didn't get to order our drinks until halfway through the show. The server, Emma, did the best she could, and she deserves better than this disgrace of an establishment. Brad made sure to make a joke about how he wants to bang his own employee Emma's mom. No wonder no one wants to work here. Me, my friends, and audience members felt robbed. My friends paid for tickets to your club, bought the 2 drink minimum, and came all the way out just to witness an immediate slap in the face to its own comics, employees, and customers. Please reevaluate your priorities Crackers Comedy Club. Give the audience what they want, and not what you want. The disappearing act of all professionalism will very unfortunately keep a lot of Indianapolis from returning. Brad Rigler, I hope you eventually learn your lesson. I hope you realize the hypocrisy and counter-intuitive nature to censoring comedy at a 21+ club. (There were a lot of college kids that weren't getting ID'd, so that's a plus for all you underage comics and comedy fans.) If you are going to hold your "open mic" comics to a higher standard, show character to do the same for yourself. Enjoy this picture of Brad so you know who to avoid. I went to support one of my friends who was performing for open mic night. Other comedians on stage were solid, but a minute into his set, the guy running the timer (the headliner) interrupted and essentially yanked him off stage for saying the F word. Mind you, this guy then proceeds to be the "Main Event" and gets up there and receives 0 laughs, while saying the same "bad" word. Once the audience caught on to how terrible he was, they began to heckle him back, to which he proceeded to make insults and rude comments. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Ahhh the old bait and switch... and then get mad if it doesn't work on my group. I love stand up comedy and unfortunately the choices in this town are limited. So when I saw on the website that there is a ladies night on Thursdays, all you have to do is call and make reservations, I was on it and reserved a table for 10-12, the lady insisted on an accurate count and so we agreed on 12 people. The day comes and my friends trickle in and of course she tells us there are no reservations. Looks it up a few ways, nope, no reservations, too bad, but for $11 each, we can see the show. I said, no deal, not happening. So then she gets upset with me, comes up with 10 different reasons as to why there are no reservations and somehow it's all my fault and so on. I say, no problem, we'll go somewhere else. For one, the comedian has changed and I'm not going to be belittled and treated as rudely as this lady was speaking to me. Then she was going to do us a favor and let us in for $5 each, which she has never done before, at least she said so. Still no deal, because frankly I see what's going on here, you got us here with a free offer and now we get to be your cash cows... not in the mood for that. Finally she offered to let us in for free, even so she was going to do so at a huge loss and she can't make a living this way and so on and so forth (excuse me, the tickets were free to start out with if you called and made reservations, which I did, so what are you sacrificing?) ... meanwhile I am discussing with my folks where to go for s dinner instead. I am over it by now, 2 of my group wanted to stay for the "free" show, which you still need to purchase 2 items. The lady was upset that I most of us wouldn't take the offer of 'free' tickets now, even so she was going to make this financial sacrifice for us... For one, I will not be guilted into anything... for two, after you try to scam me, I am surely not going to purchase anything from you because I would have still had to spend money on the two item minimum... and after you were rude to me and my guests, no, I am not doing business with you. It's a shame that they pretty much have the monopoly in Indy right now as far as comedy clubs go, but I think I'm still going to pass. Reading other Yelp reviews, I am led to believe that I have encountered the owner according to their descriptions. Well I guess I will find some stand up comedy on my travels from now on. read more

Great venue with responsive and friendly staff. I have been to this location twice within the past 45 days and have had a wonderful experience each time. The check in was seamless and I purchased preferred seating for each event. The first time we were sat at the ledge off of the stage and the second just a bit off to the side at a table. Both locations were great and I highly recommend the additional charge for preferred! We came to the 7pm show on Friday both times and opted to have dinner here. The food isn't anything spectacular, but they have something for everyone and it's quick and tasty. Between the two of us, we have ordered the nachos, garlic cheese bread, chicken tenders, and chicken wrap with fries. The garlic cheese bread is my favorite of the selection. For drinks, we keep it simple and just order bottled beer, so nothing to report on their shots or other drinks. Overall, a great experience! read more

This is the first time I've ever attended a stand up comedy act. I must say Crackers knows how to make it feel like home. They offer drinks as well as food for those that are starving, like me ;) Upon walking into the building there is an Indian restaurant to grab grub before the show perhaps if you make time, there is a bar upstairs in the entrance lobby to the Crackers Indy theater where the real show starts. The decor itself was very muted, black and red for the most part and a dj booth in the back. After the show the comedians stand out in the lobby and you can take pictures or buy cds. Crackers was very accommodating and as for the staff going around taking orders there were no actual distractions from the show itself. Their choice in comedians were excellent. Sadly, this place has really gone downhill. We wanted to go to Helium, but the show was sold out, so we thought we'd give it a shot as we hadn't been here in years. The tickets at the door were CASH only and expensive for mediocre comedy. $60 for two people plus a two-drink minimum. Luckily, I had exactly $60 in cash. Who carries cash these days? We remembered they had decent food when we went before, so we waited until the show to eat dinner. Much to our surprise, we were handed a menu with only drinks. I flagged the waitress down to get the food menu and she informed us they no longer serve food. At that point, having paid $60, we were already committed and ordered a soda and beer. $2.75 for a tiny glass of Coke that was mostly ice and pretty much flat. I would say it was maybe 2-3 ounces of soda. I drank a couple sips and left the rest. It wasn't worth the calories. The show started with the headliner as the host for the show, which I have never seen done before. The jokes were painful as it seemed like he was not prepared to take on the role of host. The first comedian was okay but nothing to write home about. He made some very controversial jokes towards the end, and you could tell the crowd was very offended by these jokes. I know people can get offended by jokes at a comedy club, but by looking around the room, you could tell no one thought it was funny and the people up front looked like they wanted to get up and leave. I was hopeful that the headliner would be much better and he was okay but not worth the $60 we paid. He seemed like a super cool guy and I'd give him a solid 6 out of 10, but I definitely wouldn't pay to see him again. Anyways, if you're thinking of going to Crackers, be aware there's no food, the chairs are super uncomfortable, the table was unsteady and almost flipped up when we put our elbows on it, and the comedians are so-so. There was one little booth on the main floor that a lucky couple got to sit at at. It's too bad the rest of us had 15-minute chairs. So sad to see this place go downhill like this. I have never written a bad review or have had such poor customer service until now. I was trying to reserve a table for 8 people for a Saturday night show, but wanted to make sure everybody could sit together. So I called the club up and they gave me a lot of bull crap answers. They said I could make a reservation with them via phone and that everybody could pay at the door. We had to pay an additional $3 order processing fee the same as online even though we were paying at the door in cash and only had a call in reservation. The first time I went, we paid at the door without a $3 order processing fee. Then I found out that the reservation I made was only to guarantee a seat for yourself. They could not guarantee that all 8 of us could sit together. The lady said all reservations made online and by phone cannot guarantee your group, but only yourself. Even if your reservation is for 2 people she said it is not a guarantee that you both will sit together at the same table. However, if we wanted to guarantee that all 8 of us will sit together at the same table, then we can pay an extra fee of $3/ person to get preferred seating. What is the point of making a reservation if you can't guarantee your group will sit together? This was a load of bull crap. Overall, the only saving grace were the comedians and our nice server. If you decide to go, it would help you to read their fine print on their website under FAQ. However, I will no longer be going to this club anymore. I love comedy shows so we have been to several shows (mostly the previously open Crackers in Broad Ripple). If you complete the comment card and join the email club, you often get notified of shows first and can win free tickets to shows. However, the tickets that are "free" will include fees if you complete online. Aside from that, you're still seeing a show for less than what you would've paid at the door. We came to see an act downtown and it was a Thursday night so smaller crowd. We were told to wait to be seated and since it was a slim crowd, we were told to sit front row off of the stage, when we asked if we could have a different spot (because not everyone wants to look up at the performer the whole show, you know) we got an awesome eye roll from the employee. Any comedy show here requires a two-drink minimum which truthfully deters us from coming sometimes, especially when you do pay to see an act and then find out you have to purchase two drinks when you're not even thirsty. I left Crackers very dissatisfied last night while waiting to see the Justin Leon concert. I had won tickets through Silver in the City and had been given two complimentary tickets (awesome!). I'm from South Bend and decided to make the 2.5/3 hour trip based solely on seeing this show, basing my whole day around it, taking time away from work for the trip. On the complimentary ticket, it said to call Crackers at least an hour before the show to reserve my seats, I called about 4 hours before the show. I explained I had two complimentary tickets I had won and reserved the two seats. Great, everything is good so far. When I got to the club and handed my tickets, I was told I was unable to use them and wouldn't be able to see the show. She said that I couldn't use the tickets together, but could have used them if I made two phone calls earlier to reserve seats instead of one call... Yeah, doesn't make sense to me either. She had no sympathy for the situation, no apology for the lady I talked to earlier that said everything was set up correctly, instead she gave a rude vibe like I greatly inconvenienced her. Had a good time at my first visit at the downtown location . Have to say I was a bit worried after reading these reviews! But when we arrive there was No problem picking up our tickets we had ordered online. Also contrary to other reviews regarding ticketing problems my date was a member of the military and she received her ticket for FREE no problems whatsoever! They seated us right on time and the staff was friendly and good about getting our drink and food order. Lots of people here complaining about the two drink minimum. Well it's posted everywhere when you buy tickets or just look at their website. This is called business and if people aren't ok with it they don't have to come. DIRTY, MISOGYNISTIC , DISGUSTING, AND TERRIBLE OWNER. From the beginning it was horrible. I tried to call 7 times during the day to purchase my tickets and left multiple voicemails as well. I did not get a single call back. This was the first red flag... but wow... I have never had a worse experience in a professional environment ever. The owner(?) with red hair is just absolutely insufferable. I have many choice words that I'd love to say but I'm sure my review would be taken down. I cannot recommend enough that nobody gives this place any money or time of day. The reason all of our issues even began is because my girlfriend was going to do a stand up routine. I asked her to send me the order of the comics and she told me that she was 15/17. We were fine with staying, until I was informed that the only three women of the 17 were conveniently placed as the LAST THREE performers. When she walked up to one of the employees and brought it to his attention, he explained that they were last because they were "the only people with guests" and they didn't want us to leave before the other comics. We asked for a refund and he pointed us in the direction of the manager(?). We found her in the kitchen that we walked into, we now know that that is a big no no, and we were immediately greeted with SCREAMING telling us to leave and get out of the kitchen. Sure, we probably shouldn't have been in the kitchen, but there was definitely a much more professional calm way to go about that. As we walked out of the kitchen she continued to scream at the top of her lungs at us until we left. We were going to stay to get our refund but decided against it because she clearly is not in her right mind to be civil. On top of this, before the show even started, one of the comics tripped and fell off of the stairs. The remaining male comics continued to make extremely tone deaf comments about her while she was in the restroom and were being incredibly rude. My girlfriend talked to her when she returned and made sure she was ok, which she appreciated. Another issue that we encountered was the manager's dog literally defecating and urinating on potty pads in the lobby. It was disgusting. We walked out without paying our tab, and I do feel bad about this because it was not our waitresses fault and she was very kind and helpful. I feel terribly sorry that she has to work with that sorry excuse of a woman as her boss. I would love to go back and pay the tab if I knew that I would not be attacked by the rabid ginger woman if I tried! I genuinely feel bad for the staff here. After our encounter with her, she began to reprimand the man that we originally talked to, treating him similarly. The comics were treated terribly, guests were treated terribly, staff is, I'm sure, treated even worse. Terrible, terrible business. Could not recommend that nobody does standup here or even comes here as a guest EVER. The worst customer service I have ever encountered. If you want to go to a safe all inclusive space go to the Comedy Attic in Bloomington. They're amazing! read more

We had such a great time on Saturday night for Valentines Day weekend. Only problem was these entitled jerks that caused a scene and the man was abusive to the point we almost called the police. He got in the face with the manager lady and I thought he was going to hit her. But the lady was great and kicked the whole table out and the entire room cheered. I'd say that was the best part of the night but then Stewart Huff was the comedian! Also that manager lady helped a man that had a seizure and sat with him and held his hand and talked to him until it passed and then helped him out when the paramedics arrived. Let me preface my review by saying I found an object in my food and the owner literally said it was not their fault and they would contact the vendor and they didn't care about my experience. I ordered food and after an hour and a half of waiting my food arrived. I bit into my chicken and found a foreign piece of plastic and immediately notified the waitress. She was very considerate and said she would remove it from the bill. However the owner refused to remove it from the bill and made me pay for food I could not eat. I'm extremely disappointed and this took away from me having a good time enjoying the actual comedy. Side note: while I was waiting in the lobby I talked with a couple who paid extra for VIP and could not be seated because the owner was too rude for them. They requested and were issued a refund. Basically just hope the owner isn't here when you visit and hope your food doesn't include plastic because it's an addition you will pay for. read more

6/21/15 Father's day My husband and I went to see Michael Blackson, the show was great! However, the customer service was poor, and we encountered incompetent, rude staff. We ordered food that was received when show ended then we had to stay after show (when it was time to leave we had to sit & wait) to pay for poor service, which was very inconvenient. The inconvenience was not thay we had to pay but the fact that we had to wait to handle our bill which should have already been handled. Uncomfortable & cramped seating style, hole-in-the-wall the wall environment. It was my 1st time going to crackers and based on this experience, most likely my last. Last night (9/29) I bought the preferred tickets for the 9:30 Drew Lynch show. Everything was fine (not a very long wait, ticketing staff was excellent, nice atmosphere) until it came time for us to get seated by who I soon understood to be the owner. Long story short, that woman should not be customer facing. She had an attitude toward her staff, she accused me of making a mistake, when she was proven wrong about the mistake she became more angry and insulting, she did not know how to handle the Friday night's full crowd, and overall just had zero customer service skills. She was truly a nightmare. Even her employees were being sympathetic and seemed to be used to having to deal with issues because of her behavior. Luckily, we were able to get the situation handled through other staff, were promised a full refund (despite the owner's wishes), and left. I had never seen a show there before, and now I still haven't, and refuse to ever go back. read more

What an oasis in the middle of unrest and strife! It was such a relief to be offered such classy and clever comedy! My husband and I attended the incredible comedy night this past Saturday where Brad Rigler was the MC and Vincent Giles was a very funny comedian and the headliner!! The amazingly talented and brilliant Billy D. Washington oh my gosh!! We laughed at his smart breaking through of stereotypes (as when he mentioned that here he was after our new president was declared, a black man at a place called Crackers) and stood at his playing of The Star Spangled Banner at the end of the night. Crackers Comedy Club is an Indianapolis favorite. I've never been to a stand-up comedy show so we stopped by Crackers downtown on a whim. I've always known Cracker's was popular as they have another location in Broadripple. Tickets were $16 per person and there was an opener and a headliner. The whole show was about 1.5 hours. My only dislike about my experience was the club requires a 2 drink minimum (per person). I originally thought it was 2 drinks meaning one for me, one for my date. Nope. You have to buy 2 drinks while inside the show. For most, that might not be a huge deal, but I had purchased a drink at the bar in the waiting area and that didn't go toward my two drink minimum. Our server refused to let us pay until we purchased another drink so I got a glass of white wine and left it full on the table. All in all, I enjoyed the show, but I don't enjoy places where you're required to purchase anything if you don't want to, especially if you paid to be there. read more

I've been to a couple shows at Crackers in the past year. I never realized what amazing, broad-variety of comedians they bring in until I signed up for their emails. Pricing [$20-30] doesn't seem that bad for this as well as how close you can be to the act. I've sat super close to the stage as well as in the back. I believe it's the same experience no matter where you sit [unless you fork out a couple extra dollars to be up-close-and-very-personal to the performer]. I'd suggest buying tickets ahead of time as that will reserve spots. Spots may be a chair seat, or a booth seat. Regardless, you'll be crammed with people next to you so Cracker's can get as many people into one showtime. Once the show starts, you're required to buy 2-drink min. If you look at their drink prices, it's really not that bad. If you're looking for high-quality acts at an affordable price, Cracker's is it. read more

Really bad experience here. My friend got a ladies night deal and made us a reservation. She had some problems on the phone with her name being spelled wrong, but then when we got in for our show the woman at the main desk was really terrible to us. We tried to check under the name we'd reserved under, as well as many variations, but she was suspicious of us and kept accusing us of trying to sneak free tickets. We had SUCH a good time at Crackers this past week. Since they've consolidated downtown locations, I think they've also consolidated to just the good talent. We didn't stop laughing the whole night. We ordered the nachos and literally were astonished that there were more toppings than chips. I don't think that's EVER happened before- in the history of nachos! Haha. Great time, belly laughs and decent bar food. I can't complain. Especially since we got our tickets for free thanks to all their free ticket promotions!! read more

We were there to see Brad Tassell. He was incredible! The atmosphere was great! The waitress was attentive! We had a FABULOUS time!

This place is a complete joke. There are always extra charges and fees. Obvious reasons why they cannot keep a location open. I'm not talking about the drink minimums... Avoid this place. read more

A group of us had a reservation for free Ladies Night tickets for this evening. We arrived only to be told that there was no reservation (one was made approximately 4 weeks ago). Management basically acted like we were putting them out and finally offered us $5 tickets and stated that we were the only ones that they had made this offer to but since we were there they were willing to "lose a lot of money" to keep us happy. While we were waiting one member of our party checked Yelp and found multiple reviews that indicated the same thing happened to their groups. We declined to attend the show and went elsewhere.
