It's been a minute since I've visited Cracker Barrel there have been some updates and changes. Always enjoy the walkthrough of the general store and the walk down memory lane of the old gadgets and toys. This is always a selling point of visiting CB. The food might be better now. The menu has definitely changed, some of my old favorites are no longer there but the new menu is pretty good. One member of my party was disappointed in the chewy sirloin steak but aside from that plate which wasn't one that our server recommended, everything else was fantastic. The Tuesday special was definitely the way to go for me. Country Fried Pork Chops, golden-fried, and smothered in country gravy was delicious. Don't skimp on the corn muffins either! Chicken Fried Chicken was also a favorite in my group. Our server was the best, drinks were constantly refilled and she was present for any additional needs. I ordered [dine-in / takeout] for Easter dinner for myself and my mom and were really disappointed. The broccoli looked overcooked/brown, the chicken tenders were chewy instead of crispy, and the meatloaf came with plain ketchup just poured on top instead of their usual baked glaze. The mashed potatoes and gravy tasted exactly like KFC's -- not bad, but not the homestyle Cracker Barrel quality we expected. Service was [whatever it was -- friendly? slow?]. Stopped in one evening on our way to an event. Who doesn't like "brinner?" Hubby enjoyed the blueberry pancakes, bacon and eggs. I ate the fried catfish with dumplings and green beans. When traveling on the east coast, there are the usual staples: Dennys, Perkins, Waffle House and of course Cracker Barrel. Ambience: when you first walk in, you enter a "country store", complete with souvenirs, cast iron skillets and clothing?! They are going for that little house on the prairie feel. The dining room is full of wooden countey chairs and a large fireplace. Food: comfort food. We ordered: Fried Chicken - freshly battered fried chicken. This was surprisingly moist on the inside, with a very well seasoned crunchy skin. This was a hit. 5/5 Country Fried Steak - My go to whenever I think about southern comfort food. This was flavorful, but a little dry. 4/5 Fried Apples - candied apples that are presumably fried and coated in a sweet sauce. 4/5 TL/DR: when on a long road trip, if you see a billboard for Cracker Barrel at the next exit, make that your rest stop, your tummy will thank you later. read more

Cracker barrel is still an inexpensive meal and a good road trip stop for a meal. However their portions has gotten much smaller. It's also alot less crowded these days and no wait. Passing through on our way to the Finger Lakes region of NY, we stopped for a 1:30 PM lunch on a rainy Saturday and surprisingly were seated withing just a few minutes - even though we were told there would be a 10 minute wait. This is straight up Comfort Food! The gift shop is gonna' tempt you, the bathrooms are always in the same place and the little peg game is always on the table. Is it a little salty? Yes. It's Cracker Barrel, you kind of know what you're going to get. I wish my eggs came out hotter than they did but it was super busy when we were there so I'm willing to overlook that. What I'm not willing to overlook however was that even though I ordered two eggs, unless they were quail eggs, there's ZERO chance that there were 2 on my plate. I actually have my own chickens so I have a pretty good grasp on how much real estate 2 eggs should occupy on a plate. This wasn't even close. Our server Ashley was very nice and very attentive. A CLASSIC. I love stopping at Cracker Barrel when I'm going on road trips! They always look exactly the same no matter which one you go to. The service is always great but the food is always the same across all Cracker Barrels. I came with a party of 7 on a Friday night and we were seated fairly quickly. We only had to wait because they had to set up the table for us but otherwise, you'd be seated immediately since they've always had tables available when I've gone. We ordered a ton - clam chowder, grilled sirloin steak, country fried steak, southern fired chicken, and grilled catfish, all of which came with 2-3 sides. They have regular sides like broccoli, fried okra, corn, collard greens and more but for a little extra, you can also get their signature sides such as the loaded hashbrown casserole tots and bacon mac and cheese. All of their entrees also come with corn bread and biscuits. The food is definitely a Southern country feel. The food is very filling, pretty heavy, but oh so very tasty! The clam chowder was veeerrryyy thick. Their fried foods are always fried perfectly, even the fried okra side! Everything was pretty heavily seasoned but still filled all my Cracker Barrel feels so it was good to me! Also, a must get side is the hashbrown casserole. It definitely is one of my favs! I always plan to end our road trips with a stop at the Barrel. After skiing upstate for a long weekend, I was looking forward to some brunch before heading home. The familiar look of Cracker Barrel's green wood exterior, big yellow sign seen for miles on the highway, kitschy general store and lit fireplace gives me a nice, warm feeling. I was looking forward to maybe some catfish or tasty pancakes, but what is this?? After about coming here for over 20 years, they changed the menu?!? They've had seasonal menu specials before, but never a revamping of the whole menu(s). The familiar separate paper menus for breakfast and lunch & dinner have been replaced by a clear plastic folder with breakfast items on one page and lunch & dinner on the other. Where are my Pecan & Blueberry Pancakes? Uncle Herschel's Big Breakfast, where are you? What about the Steak and Eggs? How can there be no Catfish dinners? The one thing we come to Cracker Barrel for is consistency and now the whole world is turned upside down. It's not a global pandemic proportional problem, but what will Uncle Herschel have for breakfast now??? So I had to settle for Grandma's Sampler Breakfast: 2 eggs sunny-side-up, 1 each of sausage, bacon & ham, hash brown casserole and 2 regular pancakes. Pancakes were on the chewy side, but reasonable. My sausage patty was burnt though. My son tried the seasonal special Country Fried Turkey and they did it very nicely. 2 large battered & deep fried turkey medallions with gravy and sides of squash casserole & mashed potatoes and of course, he had to add an additional side of mac & cheese. I really wished that were my plate. When our excellent server, Bryant came with our check, I asked about the menu changes and he said that corporate was in the middle of a huge menu renovation, which is quite a big deal. But he also said that during this transition period and if we asked nicely, the kitchen could whip up some of the old menu items like pecan or blueberry pancakes, while they still had the supplies. Ive been to this Cracker Barrel several times in the past. The service has always been good including this visit. The food has always been okay to good with the consideration of price, until now. My associat ordered the meatloaf with not one but two vegetables. The vegetable sides were horrible. String beans were mushy- looked like they were boiled to death 3 times and again. The other was supposed to be kale but it didn't look or taste like it. The grace was the meatloaf. My meal was simpler though again the sides were unworthy of my hard earned cash. They were bacon and a ham sausage. The manager came by and offered something else which was kind. But what I went for wasn't and paid good money to be disappointed. Never again. read more

The meatloaf was quite plain tasting and needed more interesting flavors as well as more of the tomato sauce on top. The turkey strips were a bit salty but otherwise fine. My favorite side was the fried apples, tasted like the filling inside of apple pies. Please understand. Most of my Cracker Barrel reviews are the same. The restaurants are all alike the difference is what I am ordering and staffing. Cracker Barrel is just the All American Go-To place when I am traveling. I mean, how can you go wrong here. No matter where I am it seems like the people are all the same. We came here for breakfast while traveling in Binghamton, NY on our way to the Finger-Lakes. From the second you're on the porch of CB until you sit down, it's like a deja vous from one restaurant to another. Always a nice greeting when you walk in and usually seated right away. Not rushed at all primarily due to the fact that seating is limited do to Covid and many people were sitting outside at their outdoor seating. We were greeted by a very pleasant hostess and followed up by an extremely pleasant server. My wife and myself had a fabulous breakfast consisting of terrific sour dough french toast, link sausages, thick cut bacon and scrambled eggs. This place never disappoints you no matter what you order. All delicious and huge portions of food. A special shout out on the Sour Dough French Toast. It was some serious YUM. Our waiter Bryant was delightful-pleasant-helpful who was genuinely concerned that everything at our table was to our liking. The level of caring here is commendable. Recently stopped at this Cracker Barrel on the way home from Atlantic City. Easy on and off from Interstate, typical chain food that is the same at every one, hot, delicious, and tastes good. Great store for shopping, and place was clean enough. Giving an extra star because the staff (Taylor) were super accommodating and kind to us given the large group. My family had a lovely time here! I loved the décor of both the country store and restaurant -- especially the wood-burning fireplace! -- and our server was pleasant and helpful. There were many delicious food options, including specials, beverages, and desserts. I ordered the fried catfish with fries and carrots. The carrots were sweet and amazingly delicious -- the best I've ever had! And I loved that our meals came with a plate of biscuits and cornbread to share. The prices were reasonable. What can I say, it's a chain restaurant where the food is consistent and the same as most others I've been to. Inside also looks like every other Cracker Barrel. Service here is friendly and they do a good job. Down side is it's usually busy and takes a while to get seated and served but once you do it's usually good. I'm traveling with Comfort Tours Canada on a 4-day 3-nights (Hyatt Regency Newbrunswick NJ) trip from Toronto, ON to New York City, NY. Pretty much your average CB and this location is centrally placed right off the highway. We usually stop here when traveling to Bing or the finger lakes as a pit stop for food. The store actually has really cute items and I manage to find something each time. Food is your typical and I always enjoy the array of sides with each entree. The two sides we chose were not that appealing either. The hash brown casserole was dry and tasted like it also had been overheated due to most likely been warmed up a few times. Also, very disappointing was the Cole slaw! Cracker Barrel 's cole slaw in the past has always been exceptionally good. However , they have changed their ingredients choosing to have huge chucks of both RED and green cabbage. The men's bathroom smells like stale urine. The vegetables were just OK. The blackberry cobbler had only half of a small scoop of ice cream. I felt cheated. The biscuit and the cornbread were both hard as a rock. This isn't a very good Cracker Barrel. We've been to much better. I need to express how deeply disappointed I am about the entire experience my family had last night. We purchased dinner to-go from Cracker Barrel last night for our family as a celebratory meal for my birthday and we have never been more upset and disappointed about a dinner experience. Nothing was properly cooked and the presentation was terribly messy and slapped together. When the girl picked up the bag most of it was eschewed and dumped over on the rack. I was worried items may be damaged, but when I got home it was so much worse than just beat up... The food was stone cold although I arrived and picked it up 5 minutes before the stated time I was given (and our home is less than 10 minutes away). The marshmallow on the sweet potato was not even attempted to be melted and the sweet potato itself was not thoroughly cooked, the center was still hard and uncooked, the fried cheddar bites stone cold and rubbery, the chicken tenders were hard the bacon mixed in the sauce was undercooked and all fat and the fried chicken fried steak was terribly over cooked and tough, we could barely bite through them. Both orders of the mashed potatoes missing the brown gravy, the coca-cola cake and corn muffins hard as a rock as if they were sitting out all day. Don't even get me started on the pumpkin pie that had no whipped cream, gotta have whipped cream on pumpkin pie!! The ONLY items that were a positive light on the meal were the biscuits those were buttery, flaky, soft, and delicious, and the fried apples were good as always. The whole meal experience was a severe disappointment and frustrating as we were really looking forward to it to celebrating my birthday by splurging on our tried and true favorites from your restaurant. We spent just under $62 which is a considerable amount of money for a single nights meal and all we got was severe disappointment, frustration and annoyance. This is not the caliber of meals we've come to expect from Cracker Barrel. After this experience it is very sadly now going to the bottom of our list to choose for celebrations, events and meals for our family. read more
