But the strawberry rhubarb pie - OMG- was out of this world! It came ready to bake, so when we took it out of the oven, it was hot, the crust was flaky and crispy, and the strawberry rhubarb filling was heaven! Especially when served up with some local homemade French vanilla ice cream. I wish I had taken a picture, but we were too busy devouring it! This pie is literally summer on a plate. I'd love to return on a nice day with my book. The inside of the cafe is similarly adorable and they have a wide range of dessert offerings. We had a hard time choosing two drinks from the huge menu, and eventually settled on a Campfire Cold Brew and Banana Bread Chai. The server was incredibly helpful in helping me figure out what I wanted, as I was trying to avoid caffeine. The Banana Bread Chai was very delicious, although it could have been a bit thicker and could've used a little more banana flavoring. I'm comparing it to the Starbucks banana bread latte, which I actually prefer, although I'm not a huge Starbucks fan. The Campfire Cold Brew was tasty and had lots of chocolate syrup, but the coffee also tasted a little bitter and watery.

My family has been making whoopie pies for decades and every time I go to Maine, we try to find pies that remind us of the ones that we make! We came across Auntie's House in our search and knew that we needed to try their whoopie pie balls. Upon entering the bakery, we were enveloped in the scent of warm chocolate cake. It made my stomach rumble immediately! We picked out 6 whoopie pie balls to share. While I wouldn't exactly call them "whoopie pies" they were very good. We tried a few different flavors and all of them were tasty. We also tried the chocolate covered cookie dough bites ! Service was very friendly - the woman behind the counter could not have been friendlier to us. She answered all of our questions and was patient as we made our choices.

Of course they are huge - sized for American giants that require each croissant to have the caloric load of an entire loaf of dough. But I review coffee. And the coffee here - sucks. I ordered a flat white. What I received was an abomination. A way too large cup (12oz maybe?) filled to the brim with tepid, beige milk. I need not pontificate - it sucked. I took a photo, and dropped it into a nearby garbage can. Be a tourist, stand in line, and be disappointed (or thrilled if you are a completely undiscerning toadie) - or go elsewhere. I would have been understanding if the staff had simply acknowledged the mistake and apologized. Instead, I was told that I had only placed the order three minutes ago, which was frustrating and unacceptable. Since the order was entered through the restaurant's system, the staff should have been able to check the register and verify the actual time the order was placed. To avoid situations like this in the future, I would recommend asking customers for their receipts, as the receipt clearly shows the time stamp of the order. What made the experience even more disappointing was that the staff refused to cancel the order or provide a refund, despite the fact that the order had not been prepared in a timely manner. Overall, the issue was not simply the delay--it was the lack of accountability, communication, and customer service in handling the situation.
