We started the process in late August after confirming the rebate would end December 31st. These guys did everything they said they would do. Most vendors were booked through the end of the year but these guys took care of business. My PM Rana Mehmood and the site team lead Abraham were A1 professionals and very courteous even when I was freaking out over the holiday crunch. I really appreciate the overall service, the fair quote vs some of the competitors that came in way higher with their qoutes. And I love my solar energy and my free EV fuel.

It appears that they could care less about anything other than collecting payment. They miscalculated our needs by nearly 1/2 resulting in our still having a significant Utility bill (while having promised me a net-zero bill... their words) . They not once had a Licensed Electrician on site. When you call them out on being dissatisfied, they threaten to walk away from the project (once they've already received a portion of payment). And threatened to cancel our applications with the Utility resulting in complete Solar reapplication process. The installers did a great job, but they were not employees (as promised). We simply had a horrible experience with these people.

I am not sure how they are allowed to get away with stating they serve all of these different areas in North Carolina when they are going to tack on a travel fee to actually come to your location. They also asked for further information about the squirrel damage I need repaired so they could provide quotes on the equipment and materials needed, saying that would be difficult as they have not been to the site to make an inspection. Again, why state that you serve an area if you will not be able to come out and inspect the site before work is to begin? As I do not have the ability to access my roof on my own and was not given pictures of the squirrel damage found, I am unable to provide details on what kind of equipment and materials they would need to address the repair. Others offered a lower price, but found that these companies vanish overnight and leave you in a conundrum. SEM, takes on these situations to help fix the one and done companies trying to make a buck and splitting. After contacting SEM and working with Yanni, we agreed on a 30 panel system and a Franklin battery vs the Tesla system. The reason being I set up a 30a generator to power what I needed when Duke drops. Franklin offered a generator option so I can still charge the battery and run basic needs in times of a crisis. Plus, it's a 15yr warranty vs 10 for Tesla. My situation is likely a one off, so don't discount the Tesla option. I held off a few months before a review because I wanted to see how this worked. I'm very technical by trade and wanted to see how this played out. For starters, SEM is insanely detailed and will work with you to provide the installation you request, even with last second changes as things flow. They did as I asked and provided input along the way. The entire process was seamless and the PM Maddie, technical engineer Jeremiah and others were always engaged. Even the Wake Co Inspectors praised their excellent work and several told me SEM does everything right. Couldn't be more pleased. As for how this all works. I learned that it works best with full sun, cloudy/rainy days... you get a lot lower output which makes sense. Best days, I can generate 13kw during the day, it'll charge and deplete the battery later on to run the house without using street power. Duke will draw some energy here and there, but the Franklin setup depletes less than Tesla so the monthly kickback is $40 or so vs $50. I'd rather have the generator option and 5yr extra warranty. Just me. My wife thought more about this and now does laundry and the dishwasher on sunny days to use solar vs at night when we're back on Duke. Run the heavy stuff during the day. I moved to the fixed rate, 12.5 cents per KW/hr vs TOU which is 11.5 cents off peak and 22 cents peak (6pm - 9pm). I was paying upwards of $700 a month with an all electric hvac (one up and one downstairs) last year. I switched the downstairs to a dual fuel so I have propane heat and the Franklin system can run a regular hvac unit (heat pump without electric heat strips... so AC in the summer and a unit with propane or gas heat in the winter). During the past few months with 100F heat, my bill dropped to $163 on a full month of fixed pricing. Even on my best months in early Spring or late Fall using no hvac, I would pay well more than that. Another thing we did was bail from the storm events from Duke. I live on the East side of Raleigh between Knightdale and Clayton. It'll storm badly in each city, but it breaks away at the house. We don't need to go into full charge mode drawing 13kw when the odds are we won't need it. Plus, the generator option we have. So we killed the storm option feature to save a bit there. My only regret is that I didn't do this years ago. I was worried about aesthetics, but the layout more than pleased me. Barely pay attention to it. If you have the means to get this done, do it. This company is by far 2nd to none.

Part of the contract was that after the first 18 months, Blue Raven was to send us a monthly chech of 43.94 to help with interest on the loan payments. The first year was fine but for the past year I have had to call at the end of each month to ask for my check. I am supposed to recieve them during the first week of the month. Every time I call I get the same answer, "it has just been approved and will be out within the next week". I did not call one month just to see what would happen and I never recieved that check. This is not the same company, (morally), I started with. There is no way I would recommend Blue Raven, Sunpower or whatever they call themselves now to anyone. They are getting a lot of advertising from me but it is not the kind they would like. I put my 2 cents in anywhere I can, with friends and neighbors, blogs even public bulliten boards.

It turns out the second piece blew away too and left an open hole on the roof only two days after I looked the first time. I found Sun4light on a Thursday and they told me they will be here the following Monday at 10. I placed a tarp to cover the hole because there was rain in the forecast. They showed up as scheduled and gave me an estimate the next day so I hired them to do the job and they gave me a date to do the job after March 20th in the middle of the pandemic. They were doing another job on the same block and when I asked for a discount the lady in the office told me she would give me a "neighborhood" discount. Again, they showed up as scheduled, and did the job in a couple of hours not including the time they spent to go to the store to buy the matching shingles. He took pictures and sent them to me since I did not go to the roof myself. Because of "social distancing" when I was presented with the bill I saw no discount but I wasn't going to argue back and forth so I wrote the check and decided to ask the lady later. I was told I would get a receipt in the mail The next day it rained dogs and cats so I claimed to the attic to see if I would find any puppies or kittens but it was all high and dry. A few days later I called the lady in the office and reminded her of the discount. Check and receipt arrived Monday this week in the mail and because I am paranoid about the virus I don't open my mail but 4 days after I pick it up. I just opened today and found check, receipt and a nice note from the lady in the office. 21 stars to this company, they did not only do a good job but they put their money where their mouth is

Engaged Ron to fix a Velux blind that is stuck halfway. I should note this had happened before and…read morea handyman had fixed the problem. The handyman is no longer available, so went with Velux certified repairman. There was a $120 service fee just to show up. Despite telling him over the phone that the blinds were 18' feet off the ground, he did not bring a ladder tall enough to reach upper end of blinds. He then spent a half hour on the phone with technician at Velux to get instructions on how to repair ($30 time) but only being able to reach lower end of the blind. He "determined" he could not fix the blind and said my best course was not only to replace blind (which is one of four) but replace the skylights and spent whole time reviewing how much better new blinds with solar power are. I asked him just to release the blind tension so it would stay up, but he had not brought a tall enough ladder to do this. So for $150 he did nothing to repair the blind, wasn't even prepared to do so, and spent the time instead trying to sell me on replacing my four skylights (none of which have an issue) to the tune of several thousand dollars. Glorified salesman, am disappointed in Velux.
