8MSolar came through and saved the day for me with my solar installation after a different vendor had to refund me due to not being able to make the end of year deadline. We started the process in late August after confirming the rebate would end December 31st. These guys did everything they said they would do. Most vendors were booked through the end of the year but these guys took care of business. My PM Rana Mehmood and the site team lead Abraham were A1 professionals and very courteous even when I was freaking out over the holiday crunch. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. I don't know if any company is worse, or any better. These people fail to follow up on many aspects of the transaction. It appears that they could care less about anything other than collecting payment. They miscalculated our needs by nearly 1/2 resulting in our still having a significant Utility bill (while having promised me a net-zero bill... their words) . They not once had a Licensed Electrician on site. When you call them out on being dissatisfied, they threaten to walk away from the project (once they've already received a portion of payment). And threatened to cancel our applications with the Utility resulting in complete Solar reapplication process. The installers did a great job, but they were not employees (as promised). We simply had a horrible experience with these people. read more

My wife did a lot of research on solar panels prior to deciding on which company to go with to install panels on our home roof. We ultimately decided on 8M because they seemed to have great customer service - they were very responsive and answered all the (many) questions we had regarding the whole process of installing solar panels. The pricing was also very competitive when we were comparing with other local companies. They walked us through everything beforehand and made sure we were happy with the design and plans. The installation only took a day (as promised), and the setup / inspection afterwards went smoothly. There was some debris (metal conduit, pieces of mounting rack, screws) found in my lawn afterwards, as well as in my crawl space and attic. I suppose it's hard to expect a perfect cleanup. Thankfully, I was able to find all the debris (I think) prior to it doing any harm to my kids playing the lawn or mowing the grass. They also bent a part of the overhanging roof covering my front porch but eventually came back to fix it after installation. We also got a NEMA plug installed in our garage as part of the process. I asked for a modification on the location of the plug on the day of the installation, and they were able to accommodate easily for it without any problems, which I appreciated. Besides the left over trash that was in my lawn, crawl space and attic, the other main hiccup we came across were that the on-site visit didn't seem to coordinate well with the planning / engineering team. Someone had to come to take measurements of the roof and garage where they would be installing the NEMA plug, and after that visit, the design team presented their plan. However, in the design, the conduit from the NEMA plug was coming out of the garage and entering to the breaker room along two totally different walls. We had to point out the design flaws or else it probably would have been overlooked. Also, we had the solar panels installed on the front roof, and my wife thinks the installation of the panels were a little off to one side (not centered) in spite of what appears to be enough space to have it more centered. It wasn't a deal breaker, but it was unfortunate since the design had the panels more centered on the front roof. Probably an oversight or miscommunication between on-site visit / measurements to design to execution. It just didn't seem like the people who conducted the on-site visited communicated information to the design / engineering team very well, which lead to some mistakes - one of which was caught beforehand, but one which wasn't caught until after installation. Unfortunately, they said they couldn't do much for us after installing the solar panels seemingly off-center. In terms of the functioning of the panels - they seemed to be running fine for the most part, but we noticed every so often our panels wouldn't be capturing energy in spite of it being sunny outside. My wife had to contact them on multiple occasions, and they kept recommended that we reset the system and give it time. After about 4-5 times of doing this (our system was installed October 2022 and probably shut off on its own once every few months) they finally came out to take a look just a few weeks ago (June 2023) and determined that some kind of connection was not what it was supposed to be and they have since "fixed" it - we haven't had any issues since then, but we'll see if that lasts. Overall, we were satisfied with the service, we are glad to have energy savings with our solar panels, but there were some things that left the whole experience short of excellent. While I would recommend 8M to anyone considering installing solar panels, I will caveat it by saying you have to really be on top of the whole process and don't assume the communication on their end is seamless. Also, check your yard for scraps after installation, especially if you have young kids or pets. read more

Coming from CA I know the value of residential solar so after 4 different bids I settled on 8M. Solar is a 3-legged stool: brand name components, no subcontractors, and a realistic evaluation of solar potential. 8M had all three plus a reasonable price. The operation was very smooth, from contract to making my own energy, less than a month. It took a little more than a week to generate a plan and gather the components, one day (without wind) for installation, a few days to get an inspector out, and one day for Duke to start metering. 8M emailed me a half dozen times with updates and now, a few weeks later, it's done.
