I arranged a small gathering of close family and friends for my sisters birthday party. I wanted her to have a beautiful cake for her dinner party, but did not have much time to arrange for a cake. I had been so busy and realized two days before her big day, that I had not yet secured a bakery to make the cake for my sister. I panicked! I searched on-line for nearby bakeries and came across Mel, as she has had very high remarks. I reached out to Mel and to several other bakeries, to see if it would be possible to have the cake that i in-visioned on short notice and as well as a reasonable quote. After receiving several technical responses about how it would not be possible to make the cake or how expensive the cake could be because of the rushed order. As if to say I was purchasing a wedding cake. In my mind, i thought that i was just going to have to settle for store bought cake, Costco perhaps. lol At that point, I felt that i failed at my party planning duties. I then received an email from Mel. Heaven sent almost. Her email response to me was so personable and warm, and not so standard and technical as the other emails that I had received. She expressed how close she was to her own sister and how thoughtful it was for me to want to get a beautiful cake made for my own sister. I was like, oh wow, she gets me!. lol Silly as it sounds, she immediately relieved me of some of my stress, on top of saying that she would be able to assist me with making the cake. For the next couple of hours we emailed back and forth about the vision I had for the cake, possibilities of delivering the cake and pricing. Mel was very understanding, professional and prompt with her responses. Her communication was great. She sent over the invoice of the cake and I was pleasantly surprised. She was reasonable, and the invoice broke down exactly what I was paying for. how awesome was that! I then decided that she will have my business. On the day of the dinner party, as you can imagine I was overly stressed. I received a call from Mel to confirm delivery of my cake for later that evening. Again, part of my stress was relieved. Later that evening she delivered the cake to me on time. Finally, I get to meet the person that I had been in contact with for the last couple of days. She was soooo sweet. And the cake was just absolutely Gawjous! Although spelled incorrectly, "gorgeous" is the one word that i can use to describe the cake. She bedazzled the heck out of the cake and it was more than I imagined. At the dinner party when they finally brought out the cake with candles I was even more at ahh of the cake. My sister absolutely loved it and was sooo appreciative of me getting her the cake. She asked, "when did you have the time to get this?" (as she knows my very busy schedule) and i thought to myself if she only knew. lol. Her close friends and other family members all had inquired about the cake even the staff at the restaurant. I am disappointed in the decoration, it was less than fondant 101, also I was told by Mel that I would be getting a handmade R2D2 figure which ended up being plastic store bought, " R2d2is a very very detailed element that will cost a little extra."
