I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Montville for a wedding. The rooms were fine. They were clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel itself has limited services. The $15 fee for parking is ridiculous. In order to get to the hotel you pretty much need to drive, so it needs to be included. My biggest complaint was the lack of knowledge of the staff. I wanted to go into NYC so I asked multiple people at the front desk how to do that - no one knew. One person said there was a train but had no information on it. I asked about a bus and was told there were no buses that went into the city - it turned out the bus stop was 1/2 mile from the hotel. I asked one of the people at the front desk if I could talk to a manager. She went in the back then came back out and said that the manager couldn't come out. I later found out that the manager never came in that day - so she just bold faced lied to me. As a hotel that is 20-30 miles from NYC, they should have pre-printed information on how to get into the city. There is no way I was the first person to ask and I won't be the last. Last summer I drove from Vermont to California, staying at a wide variety of hotels and motels. I never experienced walls as thin as the ones in this hotel. Normal conversation in the adjoining rooms is completely audible, a television the same. I could plainly hear the man in one room urinating. This place is awful. read more

Front desk staff was very friendly. Unfortunately the thermostat didn't work. Like, there wasn't even anything on the screen... I'm assuming the battery was dead. Conditioner bottle was broken so I couldn't use it at all. The entire soap/shampoo/conditioner unit looked like it had fallen off the wall. Very thin walls. She immediately needed to use a nebulizer and they fined us 500 stating that their air quality detector picked up vaping . Would leave 0 stars if possible. We booked a room for a wedding which we will now not be able to attend due to having Covid. While we understand our room was chosen as non-refundable, the hotel has been of absolutely no assistance. We were not even trying to get a refund, we were asking for a credit for a future stay. Two separate employees informed us that the non-refundable policy was a "corporate policy" and had nothing to do with the hotel itself. After calling and speaking to corporate, we were correctly informed that it is the exact opposite: it is the hotels decision. Apparently, as per the assistant manager, "Covid is not an exception for a rebate for the advance deposit rate." So if someone has covid, you'd rather punish them for keeping your staff and guests safe by not using the room? Now, the hotel will keep our money for a room we will not be using AND charge someone else for that same room. The policy is a joke and the employees we've dealt with have no customer service skills or cares. Email listed on their Facebook: comes back as undeliverable. Ask an employee to forward you to the managers voicemail, you get sen to different voicemails (not the managers). Open a case and get told the manager will respond directly: manager doesn't even make a call. Message them on Facebook: no reply. Garbage customer service. The front desk has trouble routing calls and also has trouble remembering why you called as they lay the phone down for 15 minutes. The manager is shockingly terrible with customer service; does not return calls, does not proactively make calls unless you go through corporate for a response, etc. While corporate told us on two separate occasions that the manager would reach out to us, the manager never did. We had to call corporate back to find out what the managers response was as she not ONCE called us. Total joke. Our entire experience has been terrible, except for the corporate workers who have no affiliation with this hotel. [Out-of-Towner Review] Unsuspecting hospitality uncovered. This Courtyard was well beyond what any of us could have expected when we made the drive from New York City. The area is half strip mall, half business park and you don't really think you'll run into a nice Courtyard as you are driving through the area. Either this was remodeled recently, or it is just that nice compared to everything around it. From our arrival to my check-out, the entire staff was awesome, professional, and accommodating. The layout is a little weird, like tentacles of an Octopus. You twist and you turn, but eventually, you get where you need to go. Unfortunately, the main elevator was broken when we were there. There were two smaller elevators, but the staff recommended we skip one of them. It was small but functional -- just not near our rooms. Overall, for a work trip, this little secret haven of casual comfort worked well for me and a handful of my co-workers. DO NOT BOOK FOR A WEDDING BLOCK. I don't even know where to begin with this review, but this will be incredibly long. I got married on October 23, 2022 at the Rockleigh Country Club. They had recommended blocking rooms at the Courtyard by Marriot in Montvale for our guests from out of town. I sincerely regret the day that I booked with this hotel and have already advised Rockleigh to stop recommending them as a suggested hotel due to their poor sales representative and customer service. I originally signed the contract with a different sales representative back in May of 2022. The contract stated that with 10 rooms blocked, my husband and I would get a free king room and with 20 rooms blocked, we would get upgraded to the bridal suite and get a free shuttle service to our venue. The rate was locked in for $169 plus tax and guests had to use our link to book this rate. Months leading up to our wedding, several of my guests informed me that the rate on our link was more than what was actually on Marriott's website itself, which was $149 plus tax. So I thought that was weird, how can the Marriott expect me to block all these rooms when my block is giving guests a higher rate? I then learned that the sales representative I was originally working with was no longer working there and there was a new representative to contact by the name of Ashley Johnson. After WEEKS of trying to reach Ashley via phone call and email, I finally was able to speak with her and she assured me that the new rate would be $149 and this was changed on my link. I then had to go one by one and list names of my guests so she could move them into my block. Weeks leading up to my wedding, the representative for the shuttle service that was used to transport guests reached out to me and stated that the Marriott said I do not have enough rooms so if I wanted to book a shuttle service I would have to pay for it. However, after counting all the guests, I counted 21 rooms, which was more than enough to get the shuttle service and room upgrade as stated in my contract. To be 1000% sure, I even confirmed with Ashley and she said that I was good to go and had the number of rooms. I CONFIRMED THIS WITH HER VIA PHONE AND EMAIL MULTIPLE TIMES. So I signed with the shuttle representative, Paola Morales, and the shuttle was booked. When we checked into the hotel the night of my wedding, we were also upgraded to the bridal suite. Then, while I was on my HONEYMOON, I got a charge for the bridal suite. When I contacted Ashley to find out why this was the case, she also charged me for the shuttle as well. She stated that one person canceled the night of the wedding (which they did but I still had 20 guests) and that I did not reach the number to get the upgrades. She stated that even though I HAD 20 GUESTS BOOK THE HOTEL BECAUSE OF MY WEDDING, some booked outside of the block (again, negligence on the hotel and sales representative for having a block rate lower on their website) and that they would not count towards my block. She confirmed these rooms with me days before my wedding and days before signing for the shuttle service. I did not need the room upgrade- we checked in at 2am and checked out at 11am, it was a total of 9 hours. I also did not need the shuttle, if I knew I did not meet the room requirements, I would have never signed the contract, but I only signed it because Ashley had confirmed this with me. I had to call Marriott numerous times while on my honeymoon in a foreign country to resolve the matter--one that was a result of her negligence and lack of professionalism. She eventually refunded me part of the room fee (not even the entire charge) and still left the charge for the shuttle. Throughout the entire process, Ashley was hard to reach and poorly responsive to calls and emails. It was such a huge disappointment and I would never recommend this hotel or her TO ANYONE. Review for room with 2 beds -Beds: were comfortable and they provide you with 4 soft pillows per bed -Closet/drawer space: lots of space to use for week long stays -Network connection: cell phone connection (t-mobile) is either non existent or really slow in the room, it works well in the lobby though -Desk space: was nice with easy to reach outlets to plug in laptop charger.. Terrible! Do NOT stay here! We booked over 50 rooms for a wedding 2/3. In preparation for the wedding the staff was unresponsive and rude! Our stay was horrific and it was an embarrassment to our guests! It was freezing in the corridors! We rented a room for the bridal party to get their hair and make up done. These girls were SHIVERING FOR 6 HOURS! We were offered heaters when we were finishing up 6 hours later! Toilets in some rooms didn't flush, locks to some of the rooms were broken! Over the three days I stayed there i worked with multiple front desk service workers . Eric provided fantastic service. Hotel Did Not Honor Our Room Confirmation October 2022 I've never been this disappointed with a hotel experience as I was with the Montvale Courtyard. First the good, because I'm nice. The guest room was pleasant and the bed comfortable although abnormally high. Everything was clean and the bathroom was plenty roomy. Also, Courtney---I did not get her last name---was very helpful throughout the evening of my event and very friendly. I had booked both my guest room, a guest room for a friend and an event room months ago for a high school reunion.... Now the not-so-good. The very bad, actually. I had booked a two night stay for myself and a one night stay for the DJ for our reunion. Booked both at the same time. Same credit card. When I checked in, I explained that my DJ friend would be arriving to check in the following night, under my name, since the name the room is booked under has to match the name on the credit card. The gal at the desk took that information and said it would be no problem for him. She noted that the expiration date on my credit card had expired so I gave her a different credit card---for BOTH reservations, as BOTH reservations were made at the same time, under the same credit card. She assured me that my friend would have no problem checking in tomorrow and "he is all set." The next afternoon when he arrived and after he had set up his equipment, he texted me to say he was having trouble checking in---there was no room for him. WHAT?? I ran down from my room and we both showed the confirmation number for his room. We were told that there was not a valid credit card for his reservation and so his room had been given away to someone else. Plus, with the hotel being fully booked, there was NO ROOM FOR HIM. Note: we both live THREE HOURS from the hotel. So he'd had a long drive, set up his equipment, had a five-hour event to DJ, and then no room to sleep in? Even though his room had been confirmed?? No matter how much we---and then another friend who joined us---explained that with both rooms being reserved at the same time and under the same credit card, including the replaced credit card---those at the desk refused to honor that confirmation. Kept insisting they had done nothing wrong and they could/would do nothing for us. Worse customer NON-service I've ever experienced. They offered us NO resolution---and continued to say they had done nothing wrong. Will never book at a Marriott again. My DJ---who I offered my room to---ended up driving home late at night after our event, sleeping for an hour at a rest stop in Kingston. Unacceptable. We visit the area frequently and usually stay at the Hilton Woodcliff Lakes. Decided to try and save a few bucks by staying at this Courtyard having enjoyed it's restaurant previously. We'll go back to the Hilton. Our first impression of the housekeeping staff as we found our room was that one was engaged in conversation on her speaker phone turned up so loud, she blocked our way to the room. Later in the stay, items were not cleaned or replenished in our room. Despite some new fixtures and furniture, remnants of old are still in the room. The air conditioner cycles only on one high speed and blows right at the bed and is noisy. So you are hot to cold all night. The room still has a tub with old fashioned controls, but appears to have been refinished. The hair dryer and coffee maker appear to be the cheapest available maybe to avoid the temptation to walk away. The layout of the hotel makes for very difficult parking as the banquet facilities are not widely separated from the rooms, so there is much competition for close in spaces . Also the noise from parties and the lounge/restaurant can easily be heard in the room wings. Yes, the common areas are very attractive and the restaurant is good for dinner. Not much but a snack bar type breakfast on weekend though but they do serve Starbucks coffee! read more

If all you need is a bed to rest your head in the area you may be fine here but don't expect anything else. But I have to wonder about bedbugs. The care, service and upkeep of the facility is grossly lacking. The air conditioning units are old, dirty, rusted, taped up and don't let out cold air. Hopefully you're not coming in the summer. The refrigerators in the rooms are old, barely work. There is only 1 microwave in the hotel, it's not high power, it's old and it smells. If you think you'll go for a swim, guess again, it's closed and they don't bother telling you when you reserve or check in. The billiards room isn't kept for guests to enjoy. I told them on Wednesday their ceiling caved in and there is debris everywhere, it's was there days later and no clean up. If you need water, better buy it before you come, no place to get many in the facility. The leave 2 regular bottles in the room for $6 each, that's it. They only have a few drink options by their front desk. Who doesn't sell water? Whatever happened to a courtesy filtered water unit for your guests? The layout is also quite strange, you have to walk quite a bit around building for elevators that accommodate luggage. There is no one to help you with luggage, just one person at front desk. It took 3 tries to get my keys activated to room correctly. They had initially given me access to a room that wasn't mine. We purchased breakfasts rate and they told us upon arriving it was not included. Clearly not training or communication internally. If you want to come purchase a quick bite to eat you can from their limited options but you better be down between 6:30-9:30am or there's nothing rest of day. Even the vending machines were removed on the floors, not sure what the ice machine is good for. So if you're working in the lobby bring your own snacks and water. We had a room blocked booked for October for a wedding and they canceled it and moved us to another hotel a month before without letting me know for "emergency renovations" which turned out to be bed bugs! I had to call multiple times to speak to someone and would never get in touch with anyone. I had to go there in person and when I was expressing this to them, they accused me of lying about the entire situation and told my grandmother that they would "never want a mother like her." I had a perfect stay at Courtyard by Marriott Montvale. If you're looking for a place that's pretty centrally located in the area and also has just about everything you need on sight to keep ya relaxed and/or busy this is the place. I actually went down to the lounge/lobby and got some work done a few times, as well as got a few workouts in at their fitness room, which is very clean with new equipment for just about every muscle group along with lots of fresh clean towels constantly available. The hotel is weirdly designed and there is parking all around the hotel but depending on where you enter you would have to walk far to the lobby. We stayed in a room with a king sized bed with a sofa. Decent size... funny thing is we couldnt find the fridge which is next to the door... we found it when we were checking out. Also the cable connection was not working so we could barely watch tv. They ac/heating was a wall unit that worked pretty well so no complaints there. The bar/restaurant in the hotel closes early which is bizarre. Not sure why they dont stay open late especially on a saturday night. Overall, not the most impressed with the hotel. read more

Toast wasn't toasted , bacon obviously cooked in a fryer , it tasted like stale oil. The sausage Patty's were like cardboard. Took kitchen 2 try's to get over easy , and they still screwed it up. price is 13 bucks with tax. If you don't get a complimentary breakfast do your self a favor and take a drive , probably 6 great diners 10 mins drive in any direction from the hotel. You definitely paying for the Marriot name. My Usual family visit to North Jersey takes me to different hotels..I have stayed in this hotel twice so far and the only two complaints I have is the Housekeeping staff are very loud and smell horrible leaving odors throughout the halls and elevators..They have full on personal conversations between each other screaming down the hall using a language that is unfamiliar to me. The Hotel is simply huge but very well maintained considering the size..The front is very deceiving and also the fact that it is a Courtyard surprises me about the size...Takes forever to get anywhere within the hotel. but its clean and nice and the restaurant is fantastic!!! The restaurant is called Fire & Oak and although connected to the hotel is separate from the hotel. The pool area seems to always be empty but clean , cool and refreshing. read more

Booked my stay here using Concur the travel agency for the 15th of July through to the 20th. I get there and check in and have my first issue. The business credit card used to book the trip which mind you was used for all 3 facets, Air, Hotel and Car Rental was not processed and I needed to use a personal card some made up excuse as to why but I did not fret, tendered my Personal Card, I was told I will be charged just for a hold which was for the first night, and that I will get the full charge at the end of my stay. But no, my card was charged the whole amount for the stay. Front-Desk guy apologized saying, so sorry Christopher I charged the whole amount on your card. I head over to my room #170. I get in and to my shock and amazement, sink has hairs from a previous guest, room smelt damp but not alarming to the extent that I had to run for the hills, I mean New Jersey is a smelly state to begin with so hey a few sniffs of suspect smells was not too alarming or, so I thought. How often do you check into a room and look up at the ceiling? Because if I did, it would have looked like a pee colored drawing of the world, wetted and dried repeatedly. Fast-forward to Tuesday night. New Jersey gets a hard-down pour from about 2pm till about 6pm that Tuesday 7/17/2018. Not suspecting anything I head to my room after a long day and immediately that smells reaches out and smacks the hairs out of my nostrils as soon as I walk in the door. Followed by the sound of drips. Hmm the detective in me goes looking for the sound. Low and behold the ceiling is leaking, I literally "Shit you NOT" the bloody ceiling is leaking on the first floor, in a 3-storied building. What? Why? What the Hell? I go through the usual emotions of pissed and shock but called the front-desk. "Me": My ceiling is leaking. "Front Desk Man": Oh, that is not good, it is not leaking on your bed is it? "Me": In shock going hmm no but it is close to my bed. "Front Desk Man": Ok because we cannot move you into a new room as we are 100% occupancy and there are no rooms within 100 miles of here and we cannot get a maintenance staff to your room till tomorrow morning. Not wanting to be a dick I agree to stay the night and ascertain that the Maintenance staff will come by first thing in the morning as I needed to be out by 8am. "Front Desk Man": Yes, he will be there at 7am. It's 2am and I am woken from a relatively good sleep. To what? You may ask: I was awoken to what sounded like a lady getting tortured. I immediately jump out of bed in my Pj's and jet to the suite door and crank it open to the hallway to save this lady. But alas there was no one there. Hmmm but I can still hear what seemed like loud music and a girl getting tortured and a Man saying words I could not surmise. I back into my room still in a fight or flight mode to realize that the noise was coming from the adjoining door to the next suite. And what I thought were sounds of a damsel in distress was loud music playing and an orgy in-progress. At 2am well now 2:02am on a Tuesday morning when I am trying to get some sleep. Really? WTF? And a few other creative words and phrases ran through my mind and under my breath. Should I bang on the adjoining door? Should I call the front-desk? Should I go out to the hallway and knock on their room door? What do I do. My wife is not going to believe this shit when I tell her. So, I do what any other weirded out, shocked and pissed of bloke will do. I grab my phone, head over to the adjoining door and start recording the noises these animals were making. Because humans DO NOT make those sounds, at least not without a video crew and mood lighting present with cheesy titles etc. Anyway, I record this for those I will have to relate my horrors to later. So, to add insult to injury, my room is leaking, fluids from the ceiling, a Staff and hotel that does not care about its customers to put them in rooms like these and that will make up lies and do nothing when you are distressed and to top it off, let out their very "full" hotel to video productions of the red variety. Really? Why am I supporting or patronizing such a chain? Why should you? Either way you look at it. This is a disgusting hotel and management is equally disgusting, rude and do not care. I checked out in the morning. Maintenance never showed up, shocking! I found a better hotel for 75% less, clean, Staff was cordial and welcoming, and I am currently staying here the rest of my stay in New Jersey. Not to mention the internet speeds at Courtyard Marriott of the free variety was netting me about 6 mbps, you have to pay for the so called fast one, while in my new hotel the free complimentary Wi-Fi nets me over 25mbps. Why would anyone stay here? As for me, my friends, acquaintances and generally anyone who will listen or read. Avoid this place at all costs. I was more than impressed when I arrived at this Courtyard Marriott. They checked me in quickly and I had the pleasure of walking through the lobby and common areas. Wow. This hotel is absolutely beautiful and modern. My room was large, the bed was comfortable and I kicked back on the lounge chair after work. Everything went perfectly while I was there. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. As I was leaving, the guy running the full Starbucks near the lobby took care of me even after they were closed. Everyone involved knows what customer service means. Well done across the board. read more

Simply by approaching the Courtyard by Marriott in Montvale, NJ I knew I was going to have a five star experience. I early late for my check in time, as I wanted to miss the post holiday traffic but that wasn't a problem.. The hotel lobby was very warm & welcoming. I was quickly checked in & the desk person asked if I needed a menu to local restaurants that delivered food, as if he knew I was tired & hungry. He took a quick moment to point out which restaurants delivered and be even offered me coupons. Although the hotel grounds are large (& has free parking) I easily found my room, which was spacious and equipped with a coffee maker, mini fridge (all found in a little nook), free Wi-Fi (& on premise computers to use for free), & large flat panel TV. The room has very comfortable beds and the best pillows I've laid my head on. The bathroom was spacious and had a double door entrance that created a luxurious atmosphere. The bathroom offered plenty of soft towels and Paul Mitchell hair products as well as a large walk in shower. In the mourning I found a very nice breakfast cafe, (this is different than the dinner restaurant/lounge) the cafe offered Starbucks & healthy breakfast menu. The food was fairly priced & much nicer than I expected. Be sure to try the breakfast potatoes they are out of this world. What I liked about this hotel was it's clean, well maintained, & the rooms were up to date. The hotel is located 3 miles from the NJ Transit and 25 miles from Manhattan. We booked with them for our wedding. The bridal suite was divine! So much space for wedding preparation and wedding traditions. Also it's connected to a guest room which was very convenient for wedding morning. Olivia was our point of contact throughout the entire process. She was quick to respond and handled all our questions with ease. Courtyard was incredibly accomodating with us for our wedding and our guests loved this hotel! I wish we had more time to enjoy all the fabulous amenities, but wedding day plans always go by so fast. I could not recommend them enough! read more

The school I work for hosts annual events near by so we get to stay at this hotel. For the most part, this hotel is quite nice. It's large spacious with lots of parking space. Sure it's only 3 floors but each of those floors has a chazillion rooms. The front desk guys are pretty accommodating. There's even a little snack bar which is nice for those late night snackers such as myself. These a gym. It's small but there's a gym none the less. And a pool OUTDOORS! I didn't know this so I packed my swimming gear in the winter. Ha! The pool was closed. Our toilet was working on and half for three days. We were afraid to do number two sometimes because we didn't know if it was going to flush or not. But other than that, cute home away from home. read more

Unfortunately after traveling for a long time hoping for a clean room, good customer service, and accurate information none of the following was received when we arrived here. The rooms were not ready for us despite being told otherwise on the phone by an employee. When we finally got the rooms they were grimey, dirty, and just plain disgusting. From the floor to the walls the rooms were falling apart. The odor in the first floor room smelt like body odor and mold. The bed sheets were stained and gross to look at let alone touch. Breakfast is not free but really expensive, on-site and closes at an early 9:30 am!! The cafe does not get your order correct the first few times around. None of the maids/cleaning people speak English which is difficult because it makes communicating with them hard. The communication between the front desk and the cleaning staff is limited to non-existent. Parking is also pretty challenging. There are many parking spots however with everyone driving a large SUV and being incapable of parking correctly it makes parking anytime of day a stressful occasion. The rooms for their price were low quality and overstated on the website. The event manager seemed to struggle to maintain organization and order over the bookings/events/groups here. We were part of a group and our rooms kept being dropped from the "Hotel's event booking" guest list. We had to constantly communicate with the event team to fix this issue, something guests nor the event hosts should have to take care of on their own time. One elevator in the hotel was super tiny and looked like it was about to break any minute with any amount of weight, #safetyhazard. The snack bar provided at a cost by the hotel was expensive, for about 3oz or so of ice cream it was $9, for example. Getting housekeeping to come in was difficult and an exhausting task, which the front desk unlike what we were told was not able to help with. The free shuttle service only goes to local businesses in the Montvale area. The hotel is literally right next to a loud bar/grill restaurant, so if you're looking for peace and quiet at night forget it. It is also right by a frequently used roadway, adding to the noise at night and during the day. The walls are also so thin that even without any outside noise, you could hear your neighbor's phone drop. There are hardly any decent restaurants or grocery stores in the nearby area, let alone attractions/sights to see. There are no wow-factor decorations/art to see at this hotel. The pool is closed. The HVAC takes forever to work, if you're lucky enough to get a room where it works. There is no legitimate security on the premises and exterior gates leading to the interior of the hotel are not monitored or locked. Often many of the doors leading to the inside of the hotel were unlocked or not closed all the way so that any sort of stranger could have walked into the hotel with no issue. The literature provided in the room on the hotel, the restaurant that is attached to the hotel, sights to see are all old, worn, and have clearly been recycled. Speaking of recycling, this hotel does not recycle anywhere on the premises that we could see. Not in the rooms, or in the bathrooms, or in the lobby, or even outside in the entryway/parking area. This is a huge disappointment. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone ever, but especially not to the elderly, people with young children, or young couples. read more
