Ive accrued over 300 nights in Marriott hotels since 2010. I trust the brand, and enjoy keeping my platinum status and the perks that come with it. The Courtyard Madrid Princesa was not that same experience I've come to know and love.
Upon arrival I was not offered my Platinum gift, the option to upgrade the room or any welcome points. I know this sounds whiny, but I actually try hard to keep my status, and it sucks when that its not acknowledged or when it doesn't get me anything special. No free breakfast? I should have stayed at one of the AC hotels then.
The facility: this is by far the least impressive Marriott branded facility. The room was outdated, the air conditioning was not operating properly, and the bed and pillows were just awful. Marriotts usually have very comfortable beds and pillows, its part of the reason I've come to love their hotels. This hotel though, had a joke of a bed, I've slept on futons that were more comfy. The pillows were about as nice as the ones I got on the plane on the flight over. I asked for some extra ones, they didn't help, stacking horrible excuses for pillows on top of each other doesn't help. Back to the bed, it was awful, each night that went by my back got worse, my sleep got less restful and it began to impact my vacation. It also detracted from the romantic trip my girl friend and I were having. Ugly room, with a terrible bed and either an open window with the sounds of the city or a closed window, with only weak, hot air blowing out = mood killer. I called about the AC, was told it didn't work, so they knew already? Not sure, a guy came to fix it twice while were in there, still didn't cool the room down or help me breathe. The window being opened was ok temperature wise, bad for sound and sunlight in the morning.
There were times when I would leave the "do not disturb" sign on the door, leave and then come back to find the lady in my room. Come on.
The gym - Im glad there was one at all, but its not a private gym, and it was packed every time I went. They shouldn't list having a pool on the amenity website either, its in the gym and there was a class in there each evening we went to check it out.
The staff was helpful, they helped me call the airport transfer people and spoke to them in spanish for me to ensure my pickup. They seemed to be genuinely disappointed about my room being to hot, and there not being any other rooms. read more
