Took a trip through Whidbey and Fidalgo island this weekend. From the moment we landed on Whidbey,…read morethis was the place that everyone said we can't miss. They were not wrong. We have eaten all across Western WA with many disappointing recommendations but this one blew us away. First things first. Make a reservation. There is almost always a wait and cant imagine how long it would be without one. Great small place with an electric vibe as soon as you walk in. It has that homey chaotic feel as it is a smaller place, very busy but still very inviting. We were met by Papa who is hilarious and just sets the tone for the experience here. All of the staff are very engaging and have wonderful personalities as well as are very proficient in their positions. This place is very much dinner and a show. It was great just watching the mechanics of how everyone worked together and interacted with each other as well as customers. We sat at the bar and I ordered a drink while my wife ordered a handmade lemonade. (she does not like the sugary ones from the gun so the bartender made her one from scratch-she loved it). There are 2 menus, the traditional menu and the specials board. We were served homemade bread with oil and balsamic and also ordered a Caesar salad to split for a starter. I ordered the lasagna from the traditional menu and my wife ordered the Pork Belly Cannelloni from the specials board, both were absolutely delicious. You can tell they make their pastas from scratch as the texture was spot on. The flavor combination for the cannelloni was something I had never had and might be my favorite pasta dish I have ever had. We couldn't finish the portions that were given to us and we were excited to get to enjoy them again at home the next day. We did order the Creme Brulé Cheesecake to take as well and that was also delicious. We got the check and had to relook at the bill to make sure they got everything. For the level and quality of food, we expected the bill to be much higher. Overall we cannot recommend this place enough. We live in Renton and would easily make the drive to eat here in Anacortes with no hesitation. This is our current new favorite restaurant and can't wait to come back.

My companion and I arrived during Happy Hour and these two selections are on that menu, so we had them again--and I guess the utility of this review is to say that these selections continue to be consistently delicious and that this is a wonderful place. We also shared an Afogato--vanilla gelato with decaf espresso poured over! Perfect, quite light after our meal and beautiful enough to paint as a watercolor. This is one of our easy go-to's when looking to dine out. We were happily helped by friendly bartenders, Nicole and Sie, who made great recommendations and great drinks for us. I especially loved the Mario Cicotti cocktail (an interesting variant of an Old Fashioned--including tobacco bitters and charred orange peel!--very interesting). And we enjoyed the beautiful, warm Montepulciano Nicole recommended. And they concocted a surprise drink for my dessert--I can't recall what it was--but it was lovely and came with a bunch of hearts! Consistently wonderful place in all ways, with lots of heart itself. In my opinion, what's not to love?

First things first, this place probably has one of the best spots in town with an amazing beach view. The staff is also pretty charming and friendly. But the food? Really, really average. The pizza was meh, the tomato was not tomatoing, though the crust was fine. The pasta was probably one of the saddest ones I've ever had. It was literally just pasta sauce dumped over spaghetti. Not only that, but the flavor was so bland that I had to sprinkle whatever I could find on the table over it. I wouldn't even serve myself something like that at home, like seriously. At the very least, I'd throw the pasta in a pan and cook it with the sauce for a couple of minutes so they can mix and mingle. This pasta was giving newly single 43-year-old white European American dad cooking his kid's birthday dinner for the first time after the divorce vibes. It should not be served at a place with such a great view. Or, maybe that's the point, people come here for the view, not really for the food? The only highlight was the bread. For reference, there's a Japanese chain Italian restaurant called Saizeriya that sells pasta for 18 CNY (about $2.53), and honestly, it looks and tastes about the same. Sometimes I really don't understand the general food scene in the States.

Stella Sopra Italian - Best eggplant parm ever!

If you find yourself anywhere near the Tulip Festival, make sure this spot is on your list…read more During our weekend of tulip sightseeing, Stella Sopra ended up stealing the show. We came for the flowers, but this little food truck parked at Tulip Valley Winery delivered the kind of meal that sticks with you. There's something magical about pairing genuine, well-crafted Italian food with a flight of local wines. Chef Alberto runs the whole operation himself cooking, serving, sharing stories, and making you feel like you've been invited to Sunday lunch at his family's table in Italy. His passion shows in every bite. I've had plenty of eggplant parm over the years, but this one? Best I've ever eaten. Served in a simple plastic container yet unforgettable perfectly balanced sauce pasta cooked just right, and eggplant that was tender and full of flavor. My husband ordered the chicken mushroom ravioli, and I was tempted to sample half of it. Big, pillowy pasta filled with rich, savory goodness an absolute win! We also split a Caesar salad (because veggie balance is important) and ended on a high note with tiramisu. It was airy, creamy, and just espresso kissed enough to keep you going back for another spoonful. We lingered on the patio glass of wine in hand, soaking up the scenery and wondering how a food truck in the middle of tulip country had turned into one of our favorite dining experiences in ages. The Stella Sopra truck travels between Bellingham and Mount Vernon. If you see it parked anywhere don't overthink it. Order whatever catches your eye. You'll definitely leave happy.

The gnocchi is delicious, as is the lasagna but the eggplant parmigiana is the best I've ever had! I always stop when I see them parked outside of Menace brewing.
