Courtyard was very new and clean. The rooms were also clean. The bar and restaurant are very small so I had to go somewhere else to eat. They have parking on site in a little parking garage. The area around New Haven is kind of So so.

I am still having issues with this hotel. I checked out and canceled my reservation on July 23rd, yet I am still seeing the reservation as active. I have reached out to the hotel via phone and the bonvoy app several times, and each time I am told that the reservation is canceled and that I will receive a receipt. I called again this morning after checking the app and seeing that the reservation is STILL showing as active, but they have removed my ability to chat with the hotel. The representative I spoke with over the phone stated that he will cancel the reservation and gave me a case number. I have to emailed back and forth with Steven Matiatos several times (view photos), but it's literally just the hotel not taking any sort of responsibility and basically not caring. I don't understand why this is so hard? I already had a horrible experience. Why does it seem impossible to cancel this room on the date that I actually turned in my keys and left the hotel (July 23rd)? I don't even care about the cell phone anymore, I just want this nightmare to end and I don't want to deal with this hotel anymore. At this point I am going to discuss with my employer possible legal routes because the incompetence is next level and ridiculous.

The Courtyard Marriott New Haven is one of the more reasonably priced hotels in Downtown New Haven and located within a short walk of the Shops at Yale and Yale University. The rooms are clean, modestly appointed, with a fridge, coffee maker, safe, hair dryer, and ironing board. There is also a sitting area (larger in rooms with a King sized bed) and decent sized desk area. My main complaint is that noise travels easily across the door linking adjoining rooms, such as when our neighbour was singing loudly at 1am on a Saturday night. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is a lounge/restaurant area, and a 24h fitness centre on the main floor. Complimentary coffee is available every morning, and a hot chocolate station is offered every evening. There is a mini convenience/food area with a microwave where you can purchase snacks, frozen meals, bottled water, toothpaste and other such items you might have forgotten to pack. Parking is available on site for a fee but be warned that the ramps to enter and exit the parking garage are quite tight. Overall we enjoyed a pleasant stay at the Courtyard Marriott and would definitely stay here again when visiting New Haven.

The hotel is conveniently located a block or so from campus off Chapel St and is centrally located, very walker friendly. Check-in is at 3pm but we actually arrived into town a few hours early due to snow where we were at. I believe you have to do valet when you stay here, so we just pulled up to the designated area on the curb. Check-in process was straightforward, our room was ready, provided all the particulars and we were on our way. They do give you info on the morning coffee, amenities, etc. Room was pretty nice and boutique-y, nice snow capped campus view, our bed was a Queen but it was pretty big. Shower was nice, sink area was good, nicer towels and great body wash/shampoo. Wish the electric plugs were positioned differently, wifi was strong, overall the room was fine, nice design and furniture. We didn't have any issues with noise or ac/heat. No small fridge. Coffee is complimentary downstairs in the morning, there is a little market you can buy stuff too. If not, a few doors down, there's a great little coffee cafe. Hotel has a restaurant but we didn't try it. There's a small gym on the 2nd floor(looks like an hotel room they converted into a gym), complimentary bottled water if you need to grab a few for your room. Location is great, we walked everywhere, campus is only a few mins away, plenty of restaurants around, easy to get back onto the highway when we headed back to the airport. Staff at check-in was nice, informative and helpful. Check-out, not much discussion with the front desk guy, he just said we were good to go and emailed me the receipt when we turned in the keys. 5 mins before you head to check-out, call the valet and they will pull your car around and have it ready on the curb for you with friendly departures.

There are shelves of books in the lobby and one of the upgraded rooms offers a specially curated book collection. Promotional items include book marks and graph paper. There was ample street parking on but we opted for the valet parking, under the building, for $32 plus tip. The desk clerks and valets were prompt, polite, and went out of their way to be helpful. We checked out early and left our luggage with the desk clerks while we visited The Peabody Museum and had lunch. We enjoyed the walk to The Peabody Museum, which was a little less than a mile, and included passing the Yale Museum of Art, crossing the green, and the New Haven Museum. The room was clean, and I believe we had a "city view" room which was comprised of the top of one building, a parking garage, and some other buildings. Not great, but definitely a city view. We didn't have a chance to try the hotel restaurant or bar. In the morning they offer coffee and tea in the lobby but we didn't have a chance to try it either. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would stay there again.

For years, this was just the big brutalist building in the IKEA parking lot, but they've put so much work into making this a gorgeous hotel with comfortable amenities and retro design. The switches to manipulate the blinds were cool and I liked that there were different settings for different times of day. I appreciated the abundant free parking as well. This seemed to be a pretty busy conference / corporate hotel which is not surprising but we definitely didn't feel like an afterthought. The staff were friendly and checked in throughout our stay. I also loved the commitment to sustainability throughout the hotel (e.g., reusable bottles, wooden reusable key cards, energy efficient lighting).

I heard it was an old Ikea office building, and then Hilton turned it into a hotel. Staff was really friendly at check in and every time we saw them. Beds were low to the ground and comfy. Very modern hotel. Switches to lower the blinds and curtains etc. They even give you a wooden room key which was neat! Free parking, too! Can't beat that! The property is beautifully decorated. The rooms were a decent size as were the bathrooms. They include a mini fridge in the room as well as bathroom amenities such as a hair dryer. There is one elevator for use. The lobby has many places to sit and unwind and is pretty laidback. The front desk staff were kind and let me leave my items there until it was time to check in. The rooms were quiet in the fact that you could not hear anything from other rooms. Our room faced Chapel Street, which could get pretty loud at times especially at night. Plenty of light came in through during the day however. There is housekeeping each day though we declined as we were only there two nights. The one thing about this hotel that stinks is the restaurants or lack thereof. The Old Heidelberg bar downstairs is closed two days of the week and doesn't have good food options or beer options for that matter. It also attracts a young, rowdy college crowd which can be expected i guess... The Poindexter cafe in the lobby was out of all the breakfast foods we wanted which rendered them useless for a pre train ride meal. The staff was also pretty surly. The front desk sells some junk food if you want any but there's no where else on the property to purchase food or drink, even water. Down the street there is Est Est Est Pizza Shop which is not the best pizza you'll have but is open until 1am for food and drink if you need it. Overall, a nice hotel at an affordable place.

We were disappointed by the lack of service / desire for guests to have a good experience. Upon checking in at around 8:30pm we were looking forward to having a drink and maybe dessert. The website says that restaurant & bar are open until 9 weekdays and 10pm on Saturday. We were told that the bar & restaurant in lobby looked like it wanted to close and in fact we're closing. We were given the option to leave our bags at desk and go over. Not have bags brought to room, not to get settled & come back down. When we got to the floor we were staying on there was a cool enclosed rooftop bar. My daughter asked how late they would be open and was told "we just closed". When she asked what the hours were they just said well it is slow so we closed. A city hotel, holiday weekend one would expect an option to settle in a nice space and relax without heading out. I think we would be more likely to try the graduate hotel during our next trip to New Haven. A little customer service goes a long way.
