My non-profit has stayed here for many years in a row for a big conference we host at Yale. For the location, they have a good price point. They have good service (they hold a lot of our materials in their office and were very organized about separating it out from other events going on). Their whole staff had also communicated well about my group's needs, including gift bags we prepared to hand out to a subset of our group upon their arrival. Their cafe/restaurant by the lobby has really good service. I ordered a yogurt/granola for breakfast and went to the business center to print something quickly - they brought me my yogurt there, which I didn't ask for or expect! They also made it fresh. I asked if there was a microwave somewhere one day to heat up some leftover pizza I had, and they offered to use their toaster oven to heat up my pizza for me! They have a gym with a big TV as well as small TVs on each of the machines, and a few weight options. The big balls a little deflated. The channels between the big TV and the individual machine ones are all off from each other, and on the machine it skips a bunch of channels that exist, though you can manually put in the number. The channel numbers are all also different from the ones in your room! So if you start a movie in the gym and want to finish it back in your room, you have to do a bit of surfing to find the right channel. read more

My daughter just moved out her belongings from her dorm room at Yale 3 months after the Covid lockdown. I made the reservation online and then called the hotel to see if they could give her a late checkout. She was only given two hours to move out of her dorm so she had to take her items out quickly, put most in storage and some to bring back on her flight. The manager Steve was at the hotel when I called and he assured me that they would allow her to check out later. Steve was very kind and professional. He told us that his staff were there if we needed any other assistance and referrals. We only stay at the Courtyard when we are at Yale. The hotel is nicely done but the staff is what stands out. There is everything you need right there at the Courtyard. Get some New Haven pizza at Pepe's and you are all set. read more

This was an amazing hotel and I couldn't have asked for a better experience! The lobby was pleasantly surprising with a lot of seating, a restaurant, bar, and convenience store. It was very clean. When the front desk attendant saw that my boyfriend and I were staying for Valentine's day, she upgraded our room free of charge. The bar was great, and even though they were missing a couple of ingredients due to a pending delivery, the bartender was compassionate and gave us a drink on the house for being understanding. The drinks were delicious! The bed was so comfortable and the view was great. I would absolutely stay here again! My only complaint is that the parking garage is very cramped. read more

Terrific location, warm and cozy inside. The hotel is a bit long in the tooth but hey, how often do you have a window that brings in natural light in the bathroom? I loved that! The people working in the main floor Starbucks are terrific. Two individuals in particular, Victor and Rebecca, were particularly pleasant and put a smile on my face. For example, when I asked Victor for decaffeinated coffee, he reassured me stating he had just brewed a pot himself. I can't tell you how much I appreciated the fact they serve decaf! So many other Starbucks, especially in hotels, do not have it available unless it's the espresso (which they turn into an Americano coffee, NOT what I desire!) Thank you @Starbucks! read more

Hotel was unkempt and felt unclean. Rooms were not cleaned or ready for new guests at 5pm. Floors were filled with bags of dirty linen and housekeeping carts that were obviously overwhelmed. Hand sanitizers were empty and even the self help food areas needed to be re stocked. Not up to Marriott standards. read more

DO NOT TURN LEFT!! DO NOT TURN LEFT!! If you do, you will instantly find yourself in the scary ass hood. You will be hanging out with gangsters and pimps and you can also buy yourself some Popeyes right across the street if your little heart desires. Just don't get your eyes popped though! If you do get into trouble, fear not. There is a lawyer working in a van with tinted window in the hood also! I'm not kidding! Stayed at this hotel for 6 nights when I went to Yale for a week long training. The hotel is situated in a very interesting neighborhood. I got here around 10pm on a Sunday night. I was like shoot what did I get myself into. I always read Yelp reviews before I decide to patronize a place. But for some reason, I didn't read the reviews this time before I booked my room. One thing to keep in mind is that DO NOT TURN LEFT when you exist the front door. Or you will be in a sketchy and rough neighborhood. I saw lots of questionable peeps just hanging out. And I was told by a local friend not to walk in the neighborhood at night. Apparently people got robbed at the Bank of America ATM just a few blocks away. That being said, the hotel itself isn't too bad. It is on the edge of Yale campus so it was convenient to walk to the university. My training was at the law school and it only took me 10 minutes to get there. Yale bookstore, a 24 hour connivence store and several restaurants are all close by. The hotel room is pretty basic and a bit outdated. They have a fridge in the room but it only turns on every few hours. What's the point of having a fridge then if it turns itself off from time to time?! I put a couple of left over pizza slices in there and they turned limp and wet the next day b/c the fridge shut itself off at night. Face palm! And they charge $20 a day for parking? Seriously? It is New Haven not New Heaven! Just park on the street! There are plenty of street parkings nearby. The hotel staff were friendly and they actually had complimentary sangria and refreshments on one of the evenings during my stay. Pleasant surprise! Free wifi is also a plus. I am glad I didn't have to pay much b/c I got a F&F rate from a friend who works for Marriott. Otherwise I would not have chosen to stay here! Maybe the Swing dorm would have been better, I'll never know. read more

Staff are good. However, the room we had was musty. The bathroom tiny and outdated. Several electrical plugs were loose. Finally, the doors are very, very heavy-- and loud. You can hear doors closely from far down the hall. This is close to campus but we'll find other options in the future. read more

Plenty nice. I stayed at this Courtyard Marriot repeatedly in the spring of 2007. Each time, I was happy with the cleanliness of the room, the friendliness of the staff and the basic amenities - parking (an extra 12$), free wireless, and a little workout room. It all makes for a pleasant and easy stay. But the best thing about this hotel is the location, near Yale (it is closer to the academic campus than the hospital) and the restaurants, diners and shops on Broadway, Whalley, York and Howe. If you arrive by car, you can park once and (most likely) get everywhere you need to be in New Haven on foot. read more

Courtyard New Haven is one of the cutest hotels I've stayed in for its very mid-range feel while located in a nice part of the city. Its certainly not the most glamorous hotel in the city, but provides is a sufficient for the price-amenity comparison. The rooms were spacious (standard king at least) and very clean. The service was very good as well, willing to accommodate special requests and were extremely helpful in providing directions around the city. read more

Meh. Property is pretty worn-out. Bar closes at 11PM. If you exit the hotel and turn left, you're immediately walking into, "I shouldn't be here after dark" territory (and this is coming from someone with a high tolerance for risk). Lots of cops responding to lots of whatever all night long. Plenty of colorful swearing going on during a fight at the adjacent property at 1AM until the cops arrived to put a cork in it. Rooms are OK. Staff are nice. Handy location if you have business at Yale. Been here three times in the last year, but I'm going to look for a better place to land next time. read more

I stayed here for a little over a week and really liked it. I found my room to be clean and comfortable and quiet and the location was in a prime spot right by the Yale campus. Exploring around the hotel I didn't find the neighborhood to be that bad - I guess if you walk too far down Whalley Ave it gets a little sketchy but I really found it to be fine and safe walking around there at night. I really liked the lobby area of the hotel - it is large and spacious with lots of seating, TV, and has a little cafe area where you can get breakfast. I am a big breakfast person and got an oatmeal and coffee every day at the little place. Pretty good! This is definitely a great place to stay if you are going to be here for longer than a couple days. I actually found this to be a great hotel, and recommend for anyone who is staying for a while and is going to be spending time on the Yale campus. read more

This was one of two choices for a conference I was attending at Yale. While location is fine vis a vis the campus, it is WAY overpriced, and as others have indicated the neighborhood towards the left of the hotel looks like it gets dodgy very quickly. The "restaurant" is a mini-Starbucks, plus microwaving food. I had a microwaved breakfast sandwich the first day which was truly barely edible. Unfortunately little nearby for an early breakfast. If I come to New Haven again, I'll stay elsewhere. read more

What a deal! So close to Yale and even closer to great dining. Area can be a little "ehhh" after dark but this is New Haven, and you're totally fine in a couple, during the day. Service was impecable. Elevators held by the staff, warm cider in the lobby on a cold day, check-in was rapid and easy, cleaning staff was excellent, good breakfast, decently priced bar, granite countertops, nice showers, free wifi (for email, basic surfing, most users; can pay 5$/day for high bandwidth for streaming TV/movies and music), comfy bed, tons of TV options (with HBO). They also serve Starbucks coffee and have vending machines throughout the hotel. I paid $119/night. Desk staff was quick to recommend eateries and entertainment. Overall, a tremendous stay. I cannot think of anything that was missing for the price. I even got upgraded to the executive suit upon check-in! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. read more

Only real plus is that this hotel isn't dirty and the location isn't bad for anyone with a purpose at Yale. Otherwise, it's a very frustrating place to stay. We frequent this hotel as my husband does a lot of work at Yale's Hospital and seriously... I am always disappointed. 1.) Even when you pay for upgraded internet (or it's waved for platinum members) you only get to connect 3 devices in a single stay. So if you want to connect 2 cells phones and 2 laptops (a normal couple's stay)- you're SOL. If you want to drop and switch devices they require you to connect, wait on hold, and speak directly with the wifi provider... which is ridiculous. 2.) Guests AND platinum members don't get any water bottles in their room- not for the coffee, nothing. Be sure to bring your own and fill it in the gym (which is really just a small room with 2 treadmills, a bike, a bench, and a few hand weights in it). Plus side- they will let you use Yale's gym if you request it. 3.) I asked for wine glasses at the bar downstairs to take up to our room- the woman behind the bar handed me 2 glasses; 1 was dirty and the other was filthy. Clearly they had been through a washer but were still stained and spotted to the point where I could tell there was red wine in the one glass prior to being cleaned. When I mentioned getting at least 1 of the 2 replaced she told me "oh, they're all going to be like that, the washer isn't great" ... WHAT?! - how about you do what any hospitality personnel would do and apologize and take them both back and hand clean them to any normal persons standards if 'they're all like that'? I had to bring them to the front desk to tell them I needed a new one or something to clean it with myself (which I did nicely might I add). It's not that she was rude it was just really a bizarre response- no solution offered or attempted. Just because they're 'all like that' doesn't mean its acceptable. 4.) The beds are not comfortable in my opinion- perhaps not uncomfortable but not comfortable. The pillows are also not those lush hotel pillows either- they feel grungy and old. Renovations in the lobby look nice but still a below average - average hotel overall. Anywho, this place has the area monopolized if you are a loyal Marriott or SPG goer so, unfortunately, we will be back. There are a few good places to eat within walking distance which we really like, and my husband can get to work quickly from here. The area isn't super safe I wouldn't say- there is a soup kitchen almost immediately next door and a decent amount of homeless people loitering at night. No one has ever bothered us though. read more

If I could give this hotel a negative 10 I would. If your room is on the front side facing the road don't expect any sleep. The road noise is extremely loud. The staff is extremely rude. I called the general manager on his cell phone and left numerous messages and he never returned a phone call. If the general manager does not return call it shows to bot the customers and employees that he does not care so why should the staff care. Therefore they can be rude to the customers because the general manager does not care. Over the next four years I will be traveling a lot to new Haven and I will never stay at this hotel again. I would rather sleep in my car than this hotel. Suggestion save your money and don't stay at this hotel. I would not stay here if it was free One more thing, the boiler for the hot water went out thirty minutes before I checked in and they never mentioned it to me. When I was on locking the door to enter my room for the first time somebody handed me a note stating that they will not be any hot water due to the boiler being out. Recently stayed at Courtyard New Haven and it is an old property. Parking is $24/night and if your room is facing Whalley Avenue you better have earplugs. I'm a platinum member but would not recommend this property as I've gotten allergies from bad room service. Disappointed from this Marriott property. Will not return. Three stars is about right. My room didn't look anything like the one on the website. This is an average courtyard. Neither the bar or the front desk had club soda or sparkling water of any kind. The thermostat on the wall didn't seem to be functional and the heating unit was the typical window based forces hot air type. Very loud clicked all night. Luckily the hotel supplied ear plugs in the bedside table. The in-room coffee service did not provide half and half but instead only those packets of powdered non-dairy creamers. All in all no huge surprises. I'd consider looking at other options next time. read more

This was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. The hotel itself is dumpy, dank smelling and genetallt dirty throughout from the gym area, the elevators and the bistro area. I was assigned a 3rd floor room - the entire hall smelled like deep cigarette smoke mixed with a disgustingly sweet overpowering room refresher spray. The tv in my room didn't work, I had to call maintenance for service, there were no noise blocking earplugs despite the fact they were promoted to be in the bedside table, the carpet was stained and the bathroom was dirty. Despite the fact that the entire hotel is smoke free, starting at 9pm my room began to fill with cigarette smoke. I called the front desk they said they'd investigate. At 10pm the smoke smell in my room was so bad it awakened my son. I called the desk again and they said no one was smoking. I said that was wrong that I paid for smoke free and was immediately put on a long hold that I eventually hung up. I will never stay here again, I have a child who is going to a tend yale so you've lost my family's business for years at this hotel, and i will seek other hotel choices, not marriott when I travel elsewhere. This is inexcusable and nor what I expect from the Marriott brand. Shame. read more

The most precious commodity in my life these days is SLEEP. I travel 15 - 18 days each month, so jet-lag has become a well known nemesis of mine. Last night was one of those restless nights for me. I stared at the ceiling until 4am. When, at last I felt the sweet release of slumber and had finally settled into a nice dream... I was jostled awake by the most disturbing set of knocks at my door I have ever heard. I seriously thought there must be a fire. Panic filled my brain as I tried to clear away the fog. "Housekeeping!" I manage a glance at the clock, only to learn that it's barely 8am - and I've had a measly 4 hours of sleep. "GO AWAY!" I yell... and the cracked-out maid with wood-peckers-for- hands disappears down the hall. I manage to fall back asleep, somehow... which only proves my exhaustion ~ because typically, once I'm awake... I'm awake. But... It doesn't end there people. That's right ~ 9:30am, an hour and a half after my first rude awakening, just enough time for me to re-enter the blissful state of REM and... BAM! the wicked-wood-pecker has returned. This time I jump out of bed, fling the door open and yell " Can you NOT read?!? DO NOT DISTURB!!!" .... it's only the horrified look on the wood-pecker's face that causes me to realize that somehow I had managed to shed my jammies during my fitful night of hit and miss sleeping. Nice. Maybe that'll teach her. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE! I travel for a living, spending on average 10 days a month in hotels, and I've never stayed in a hotel this loud. The first night we were given a room on the fourth floor on Whalley street (front side of the hotel). I should have known something was wrong when I noticed the complimentary earplugs on the night stand. It literally sounded like my bed was down on the street. This is an older hotel and they desperately need to upgrade the windows to sound proof the street noise. I actually checked the windows twice thinking maybe one of the windows was open. I didn't sleep but maybe 30 minutes all night. I was told they had no other rooms available and we had no other choice. It's ridiculous, I can't even begin to explain how loud it was in that room. And on top of all that it's over $200 a night for an old musty room. Poor gym, over priced food, and expensive parking. Find somewhere else, you can do better I guarantee. read more

My family and I recently stayed here for two nights and it was one of the most disappointing stays I have ever had in a Marriott hotel. Parking is very limited and the spaces in the garage are minuscule. We couldn't even find space to park on our second night. Also, this hotel is probably an overflow hotel for students at Yale. There were large groups of students sitting on the floor studying up and down the hallway. Disturbingly, There was a yogurt left in our fridge from a past guest. Lastly, our bathroom ceiling leaked water for about 5 hours and we were told to just wait for it to stop by the maintenance man. Front desk staff were polite and the beds were comfortable so there's that. read more

Bath doesn't drain properly when you shower. Room 517. Rooms need a revamp. Plenty of noise from the roadside. You have to wear ear plugs to sleep. Parking is a rip-off. They don't make it clear when you book that there is a $25 parking fee. Used to be free. Seems like Marriott are making a money grab with this new tactic. They have many hotels that never used to charge for parking are now charging all of a sudden. read more

This is a great hotel to stay at if you're visiting Yale. It was in walking distance to campus and near a lot of restaurants and stores. I'm a big fan of Marriott's and try to stay at them when I can. This one didn't disappoint. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff was very friendly. They charge for parking, it was around 30 dollars a night. The lobby was really nice and they have a restaurant and serve Starbucks in the morning. The rooms were reasonably priced compared to other hotels in the area. I would definitely stay there again if I was in the area. read more

I must say I'm relieved after staying at this hotel last night. The reviews had me concerned, but we found the hotel to be all we hoped it would be. Yes, parking is $20 per night. But, our nightly rate was reasonable, so we factored that in a part of the night's cost. The lobby is nicely designed with ample seating areas allowing for small groups to gather. The Bistro had tempting offerings throughout the day. Our room was well-appointed with a sitting area that included a sleep sofa, desk, fridge, & coffeemaker. The bathroom is small, but workable with a small countertop to accommodate our toiletries. The air conditioning/hearing unit seemed new and quiet, contrary to what other reviews mentioned. The hotel offered sanitized earplugs in the bedside tables which was an exceptionally nice touch. Only sound I heard throughout the night was a siren, which would have come through no matter how well-soundproofed the walls are. Overall, don't let the negativity of some of the reviews stop you. This is a nice Courtyard by Marriott in a great location that allows for waking to explore the campus of Yale or the shopping and dining offerings nearby. read more

Let me begin by saying I have stayed at many courtyards in the past and have been satisfied. Unfortunately this is the worst experience I have had at a Marriott thus far. Upon arrival to the hotel I was greeted by a staff member whom was rather rude and disrespectful while I was simply asking for recommendations on restaurants in the area to eat at. I understand that the hotel is undergoing renovations at the moment, but it took 15minutes waiting in line on for the elevators. If it weren't for the large amount of bags we had I would have gladly taken the stairs. Upon checking out our "suites" on the 4th and 8th floor I was confused as I had requested a suite, which at every other Marriott hotel I have stayed at means a seperate bedroom and lounging area. Putting that aside I thought the rooms were otherwise acceptable, that is until I saw the pullout bed. In the description of room, the size of the pullout bed was described as being "queen". The pullout bed that we found in both rooms was a twin bed at best, not even a full. Additionally there were no sheets for the pullout in either suite and we had to call down to the front desk, which took upwards of an hour to deliver. All of this I can understand I suppose due to renovation etc. But the way that your staff members treat guests at night is unacceptable. Around 3am I went out to my car to grab an extra blanket as the heater in our room didn't work adequately (another thing your staff members said they could do nothing about). In my sleepy state I accidentally grabbed the wrong card out of my wallet so I was locked out of my room without wallet or phone, and not wanting to wake my family members I decided to go down to the lobby and simply request a new one. I explained my situation to the front desk associate and she stated that I would be unable to get a key card without proper ID or the last 4digits of my credit card used for booking. This is understandable, and not havong access to either at the moment, I gave her my full name, home address and social security number. Imagine my surprise when she said that despite giving my SSN#(THE HOLY GRAIL OF ID) she was unable to give me a key and that security would need to escort me to my room and upon letting me inside would need a copy of my ID to verify my identity (Social Security Number anyone). She also would not let me use the phone to call my room as someone inside the hotel at 3am in pajamas was obviously not a guest. Upon saying that she left into the backroom and failed to reappear. So being patient I waited for 15 minutes for security who never showed up. Being frustrated but not wanting to make a scene I went up stairs to my other "suite", woke the individuals staying there and finally was able to wake up the people staying in my room with a single phone call (imagine that). Anyway, that's my experience with this Hotel. I won't be coming back anytime soon, and if I could give you a half star I would. As a long time Marriott customer, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. P.S.- the fact that you charge 40 dollars per night for onsite parking PER ROOM is absurd considering that, 1. The Omni hotel right dowm the road charges twenty(20) dollars a night for parking, while they are a luxery hotel. 2. There is no handicapped parking spaces, OR handicap accessible entrances from the Garage to the hotel (only stairs) 3. There is inadequate security in the Garage for that amount of money (Anyone can just walk in off the street). read more

I hope the Marriott executives read these reviews because this is one of the worst Marriott's I have ever stayed at. Honestly, it needs to be completely gutted and rebuilt. When we arrived, one elevator was "under renovation" and the second had "just" broken. Luckily we are on the 2nd floor. Bathroom is tiny, tiles are cracked, sink was cracked, there is no room to put toiletries, very uncomfortable bed, but most of all the overall decor is so dated and gloomy. In the morning, breakfast in the lobby worked well and we got some of their Starbucks coffee available. One elevator was working by then but the elevator carpet was taped down along all 4 sides - very tacky! As we tried to exit the front door of the hotel in the morning, the door was broken and they had to lead us around to a back exit. I will say that the complimentary water bottles and newspaper were a nice touch but did not compensate for the overall experience. Choose another hotel in the area of you are planning to visit New Haven. read more

We drove through a somewhat seedy side of town to get to the Courtyard at Yale. The rooms were clean, somewhat basic and there was plenty of parking that they charged you for. UGH!. The staff was friendly and there were plenty of restaurants close by. Also, this location is very close to the Yale college campus. We really didn't utilize anything else at the hotel as we were on our way to the college and Boston. read more

This review is a one star entirely for location. Off the back parking lot is a house that is rented to college students. So being here on a weekend with an all night beer pong tournament taking place kept us awake until they passed out at 3:00 AM. Hotel is clean and staff is nice so if you really need to stay here make it when school is not in session. Free breakfast was exactly what you would expect for free - cold rubbery eggs , stale bread - Starbucks Coffee was hot though. read more
