From the breakfast buffet

A little disappointing. We expected a full-service buffet where you serve yourself. Sausage and bacon were really greasy. Eggs were dry. They do not have any real butter on the table. The biscuits were nice and fluffy and they were delicious with the gravy. I was hoping for some more options like fresh fruit, etc..

Was passing through with my boyfriend and we wanted some local diner food. This place was in a convenient location in downtown Livingston and had plenty of parking. I ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast combo (it usually comes with country fried steak but she Substituted the chicken for me) with grits. The chicken fried steak was battered lightly but enough to have flavorful. It was moist on the inside as it should be. I devoured the entire piece of chicken. The grits were all right. Needed some butter and hot sauce added to it which was easy. Luckily the server already gave us hot sauce for the grits. My boyfriend ordered the Philly cheesesteak. It wasn't greasy, and the bread was good. The meat was decent, not gristly. The onion rings were also battered lightly which allowed us to enjoy the onions inside more (sometimes the batter overwhelms the food inside). I was able to taste one to confirm - yum! Service was great. Everyone was friendly and accommodating as we had multiple people come by our table to help.

A cute little brunch spot in the heart of Livingston! We stopped in for breakfast and were promptly greeted by the sweet ladies serving there. We were told to sit anywhere we like, so naturally I chose a window seat right in the front of the restaurant. It was a beautiful day and a perfect spot to soak in the beauty of downtown Livingston. I ordered pancakes, bacon and sausage for our big kid, while Matt and I split the country fried steak with eggs, hash browns and toast. Everything was delicious, including our complimentary coffee refills. The restaurant is also attached to a nice little antique shop, which I would have loved to check out - but there was no way I was taking my little bull into that china shop! From what I could see they offered some unique pieces, and it would be worth a trip for anyone visiting without littles. If you're ever in Livingston, stop in and give them some business. They sure do deserve it!

This was a great experience and a great meal today. Diana and I decided to explore the state park for future RV adventures and to check out Livingston. We visited 2 junk/antique stores, a snowcone trailer (really great) and had lunch. Some A-hole mask activist did a 1 star review the day Governor Abbott reasonably lifted the mask mandate and did so several other places in the area which hurt their ratings. We LOVED our food (patty melt and onion rings), the service was great and found the whole experience including speaking to the owner (a veteran Houston FD who lives locally) to be wonderful. Quality food, spotless dining room and bathrooms and friendly small town service made our day. Locally owned businesses deserve our support. Hard-working servers deserve big tips and positive feedback. Definitely will return!

I'm torn here so let's just get into it. My wife's soup and sandwich was in her words amazing. I had the cheese burger and here is my issue. Upcharged for cheese, not out of the ordinary, however, I don't want to pay $1.00 for a craft single tossed on the meat. The burger was a tad dry and over done. The onion rings were top notch. That was worth the $2.00 up charge. The staff was amazing and super friendly. Thanks for taking care of us.

Fresh home cooked farm to table ... the charm of this restaurant is only outshined by the friendly smile when you walk in! Server were sweet, helpful and polite- wish we found this place soon!

With so many fine eateries here in Livingston this one is not on my list. The waitstaff are always in too much if a hurry to be kind.

They are dense and chewy cookies (my favorite type!) and also thick. :D Biscoff cookie (4.5/5)-- this one made me a fan! The cookie was sweet with pockets of Biscoff spread inside. Great for any Biscoff lover! The quality control isn't the best though, as the second time I had the cookie, it was dry and crumbly. If the cookie is usually dry like that, it would be more of a 3/5. I would risk another try though! Cookies and cream (4/5)-- this one was a good cookie too, capturing all the essence of an Oreo flavor. It didn't stand out in uniqueness but it was yummy :) this one was a little harder and crumblier than the Biscoff cookie, but now I wonder if it was just old or dried out... Pistachio brittle/toffee cookie (3/5)-- wasn't a fan of this one, as the taste was a bit off (either a little bitter or maybe artificial tasting?) and the brittle chunks were super hard, super sweet , and super sticky (like butterfinger filling but less melty!). The chunks were tasty (and veryyy sweet), but I had to pick them out and eat the separately since it didn't pair well with the cookie texture for me. MT says the service has always been nice, and they seemed really happy when he bought whole load of cookies, hehe~ Katie's Cafe is one of the go-to spots for his lunches out there!

Right from the start, the atmosphere hit the perfect balance: lively and inviting but not overwhelming. Whether you're heading there for a casual dinner, drinks with friends, or a date night, it feels comfortable and relaxed without ever feeling generic. The décor and layout are thoughtful -- not flashy, but definitely memorable. The menu? Outstanding. Every dish I tried was clearly prepared with real skill, not just thrown together. The flavors were bold without being heavy, fresh without being confusing, and absolutely balanced. I started with an appetizer that was creative and flavorful, and each course that followed kept building on that good first impression. Portions were generous, too -- plenty of food without feeling like you're overstuffed. What really sold me was how every plate tasted intentional. You can tell the kitchen cares about the details -- the way flavors layered, the way textures played off each other, and even how each dish looked when it was served. That kind of consistency is rare, even at places that think they're fine dining. Service was equally impressive. Our server wasn't just friendly, they were attentive without hovering, knew the menu well, and offered recommendations that genuinely improved our meal. It's always nice when staff can talk about food like they actually enjoy it themselves -- it makes the whole experience feel a lot more personal. I left feeling completely satisfied -- not just because the food was great, but because the entire evening felt thoughtful from start to finish. If you want a place in Livingston that combines quality food, a great vibe, and service that actually elevates the experience, Blue Duck Kitchen & Bar is absolutely worth your time. Five stars well earned -- I'll definitely be returning.
