Countryside Veterinary Service - Champion - Here is the most recent estimate along with information from my new vet clinic, they truly care about helping my girl!

I've been taking my dogs and cats to Countryside for over 8 years, believing they were a trusted,…read morecaring veterinary office. Until recently, I had only needed routine care--everything seemed fine. But when I had an emergency with my 5-month-old puppy, I learned the hard way where their priorities truly lie. Before this, my puppy had been diagnosed with entropion (a condition where her eyelids turn inward), and Countryside had scheduled her corrective surgery for April 23rd, when she turned 6 months old. But on April 8th, she developed a painful eye ulcer. Countryside got me in right away, diagnosed the ulcer, prescribed medication, and referred me to a specialist to determine if the ulcer required surgery. That visit cost me $200. That same day, I drove over an hour to a specialist in Cleveland. Using advanced equipment, the specialist examined her eye and determined the ulcer was caused by an eyelash rubbing against it due to her entropion. They confirmed that the entropion surgery was needed, but the eye itself didn't require surgery. Removing the eyelashes causing the irritation was the solution to help her eye heal properly. That visit cost another $300. The specialist quoted me $4,000 for the surgery, while Countryside had quoted me $1,500 for the same procedure--a huge difference. Since I couldn't afford the specialist's price, I called Countryside to ask if we could move up the surgery date due to my puppy's worsening condition. The surgery was already scheduled with them, and their price was something I could afford. I called daily, waiting for them to get back to me as they promised, saying they would let the doctor know and follow up with me. After several days I was finally told--without explanation--that they were canceling the surgery and advised me to go to the specialist. They refunded my deposit and canceled my appointment. I sought out another local animal hospital, and the soonest they could see her was April 23rd--the same date Countryside originally scheduled. I had a consult there, they confirmed they could do the surgery, gave me an estimate (less than $1,000), and scheduled her for May 8th, with a spot on their cancellation list. After spending $750 across three different clinics, I finally had a plan. All three clinics agree on the same thing: surgery is needed to stop the eye irritation so it can heal. The difference is in cost--and who was actually willing to help. To make matters worse, her condition worsened again on May 1st. The corner of her eye became red, bloody, and began discharging. Her compounded medication (which Countryside had made twice before) was running out on May 3rd. When I called to ask if they could make more, I was told no because I had transferred her records to the new clinic just two days earlier. They said, "Our hands are tied" and claimed they'd "done everything they could." But that's not true. They could've moved up the surgery. They could've refilled her medication. But they chose not to. Medications provide temporary relief, but they don't fix the root cause--the entropion. Surgery is the only long-term solution, and Countryside left me scrambling to find help elsewhere. I'm heartbroken and angry. My puppy has been suffering since April 8th. I've done everything I can and made it clear that I couldn't afford the specialist's price. Yet Countryside kept pushing me in that direction and then refused to help further. When I expressed my frustration, they accused me of being rude and disrespectful. But how would you feel if a vet you trusted for nearly a decade suddenly refused to help your injured puppy without any clear explanation? As a local business owner myself, I would never treat my customers like this. I used to recommend Countryside to everyone, but not anymore. The true test of care isn't how you treat routine visits--it's how you show up when it matters most. And they didn't.

I spent over $500 here in 2 weeks and my cat is still sick and they tried to say there was incompatibility when it's purely rude and incompetent care. AVOID STEEL VALLEY GIRARD SPAY AND NEUTER AT ALL COSTS…read more Our dog Bailey was spayed on October 28th, and from the beginning, I noticed the stitches appeared poorly done. After 10 days, the incision became swollen, lumpy, and red. I requested that the stitches be removed. Despite this, 5 days later, the incision became infected. The clinic prescribed an antibiotic, but it was ineffective and did nothing to address the infection. Another week passed, and the situation worsened--the incision opened, with seepage and signs of dehiscence. When we took Bailey to our trusted vet, they declined to intervene because they had not performed the original surgery. The clinic then suggested keeping her for a week to "rehabilitate" her. Absolutely not! There was no way I would allow them to touch her again. Fortunately, Dr. Allen stepped in, prescribing a stronger antibiotic that finally made a difference. After 8 days, the incision healed, and we thought the ordeal was over. Unfortunately, today, the wound reopened. The skin is now necrotic and blackening, and there's an odor coming from the site. Bailey will require surgery again, and we can only hope we can get this under control. If I could give this clinic negative stars, I would. Please save yourself the heartache and avoid this establishment at all costs. This has been a nightmare for both us and our dog.

Now all of a sudden they need appointments for a procedure that takes less than 5 minutes but means the world to my dog's comfort. Appointments are over a week out. I doubt we will be returning. Setting aside some time for walk ins for simple things shouldn't be that difficult. They were a great safety net for times when their regular vet was booked, but no more.

The day before we took our beloved old dog there due to a cough. He had X-rays that uncovered an extremely enlarged heart. We went through with getting the $149 bloodwork to make sure he would be able to take medicine for his heart. Which the results were supposed to be today and if everything checked we were going to be picking up the medicine today. Last night after his visit and one dose of the medicine we had written instructions for him to take he started declining that night. The morning when we woke up I had a feeling he was going to pass so we kept him as comfortable and held him. He passed in our arms at 8am today 6/28/22 We are not blaming anyone he was on borrowed time and lived a great long life. When I called as soon as Lordstown vet opened I was greeted on the phone by Dawn. I asked with a teary voice if I could please speak to the vet. She responded with such an attitude "Uhhhh NO!" Which I responded that I was calling because we were there yesterday and had bloodwork done and medicine being ordered today and that we no longer need the results or medicine ordered because our dog passed away this morning. She responded so rudely saying that the blood work has already been done implying I'm looking for a refund! I started bawling and said look my dog just died 2 hours ago and I'm trying to get ahold of the vet so she knows what happened and we won't be needing the medicine ordered and the results we won't be needing as he is dead. I also said I didn't appreciate her being so rudely my dog just died which she replied she "is sorry you feel that way, we will never call you again" Which I said well we have another dog which goes to you too. She ended up hanging up on me. I immediately called back and she had the new girl answer the phone who was the most professional and personal. She even asked if we needed services to put him to rest. I left my number with her for the vet to call me back so hopefully this can be better resolved. I can overlook the secretary making multiple charging mistakes at check out yesterday everyone makes mistakes. We spent $450 on a dog that isn't here the next day, we won't be able to use his expensive shampoo or his other medicine. Yes that really sucks! We are heartbroken about our beloved baby passing this morning. But this kind of treatment by Dawn was unbelievable I'm already going through heartbreak you think the receptionist at the vet office could be more kinder and sympathetic with their clients losing a patient which is a family member to him. I'm beside myself because we have another dog we were going to still be taking there. I just hope the vet calls and makes this right with the way her secretary acted.
