His quote came in slightly lower than the…read moreother two I received, and he initially seemed trustworthy, which made me feel comfortable moving forward. Throughout the project, I asked multiple times if we were on schedule, and he always assured me that we were. Because of that, I didn't press too hard about the short workdays, lack of additional help he had quoted, or the extra side projects he added. Unfortunately, during the final week it became clear that we were not on schedule. The project was barely half complete, already over budget, and I was left without some of the most important work finished. I had emphasized repeatedly that the water heater needed to be installed, since that was the one thing I couldn't handle myself. Instead, he spent time installing the vanity, which ultimately had to be removed so the walls and floors could be finished properly. He then promised he'd come back the following week to take care of the water heater. When I followed up that Monday, he said he'd be there that afternoon--but never showed. A week later, he finally returned, not to finish the job, but to collect more money and pick up the work lights he had left behind. By then, I had no choice but to install the water heater myself. The work that was completed in those three weeks has several issues. The drywall has large blisters, the shower makes loud creaking noises whenever you step or move in it (which makes me worry it could fail or crack), the bathroom floor sits a full inch lower than the laundry room floor, and the recessed dryer vent he installed somehow makes the dryer stick out even further than before. If you do choose to work with this company, I strongly recommend getting every promise in writing and requesting itemized material costs upfront. I was told I'd receive an itemized invoice at the end, but that never happened. Whether intentional or not, I walked away from this project feeling misled and taken advantage of.

Since moving into my home last September, finding reliable contractors has been a real challenge. I decided to trust the referral, hoping the contractor's expertise would justify the added cost of redoing the work correctly. From our very first conversation, Jake's knowledge was immediately evident upon discussing the problem. His quote ended up being surprisingly reasonable compared to others I've worked with during ongoing construction projects. He and his brother were professional, a pleasure to deal with, and delivered outstanding results. I can't recall a more positive experience with a contractor. As someone who's hands-on with home projects and particular about quality, I was thoroughly impressed, especially since I tend to notice every imperfection. Jake replaced the poorly installed ceiling boards and trim with precision and craftsmanship that completely transformed the space with better materials. The difference is night and day. Jake is meticulous and clearly takes pride in his work. Having recently started his own business after leaving a partnership, he doesn't yet have an online presence, so I wanted to share this review to give credit where it's due. If you're looking for high-quality work from someone who truly stands behind their craft, I highly recommend giving Jake a call.

I feel like everything about the job went wrong…read morefrom the moment I signed the contract (that I had to insist on, and thankfully I did considering the following). I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it's honestly been a nightmare. We hired Kagan to do a large concrete slab and a retaining wall in our backyard and not only were they late or no-shows almost every single day, once they got their first installment of payment, but it is actually done completely wrong (wall isn't straight, a large dip in the slab causing water to pool by our foundation, and also no joints in the slab which we've since found out is necessary and will cause cracking if not fixed). then when we expressed discontent, they made promises to refund a portion of the cost and then changed their mind and that they'd rather try to fix it. at this point we didn't really trust them but they told us exactly how they'd fix it, and then all they did was smear some more concrete (and leaves!) on it (i've included pictures). they said they were licensed and insured, and I now know to check that and not trust someone at their word. once we escalated the conversation after they said they "fixed it" and expressed that this is enough of a problem for us to have to go through legal channels, he basically said sue me. so, after spending time getting quotes from other companies on what it's going to take to fix it, we are now in the process of speaking to an attorney to sue for what it's going to take. we have every communication back and forth saved and based on that information and the pictures, our attorney says we have a good case. I'm honestly bummed that it's come to this, and I really wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I am so supremely disappointed in the lack of integrity this company shows and am not willing or able to pay for their very expensive mistake that will only cause more damage to my home as time goes on. They should certainly not be doing large concrete jobs, and even if they did learn to do it right eventually, I could never recommend someone with so little integrity. I will update this comment if/when there is a resolution and if they made it right.
