This hotel was undergoing some renovations in October 2025, so keep that in mind. That just means you may be in a renovated room! The renovations didn't impact my stay at all. Just please renovate those pillows! Those need some reinforcements.

They stated they didn't have access to any and we weren't due for a room refresh until two days after we checked in but housekeeping would get to us when they could since they didn't start until 9. Not very helpful but housekeeping was luckily quick and we were able to get clean and out of the hotel with only a minor delay. Breakfast was mostly tasteless. Highlights for my family were the chocolate milk, waffle station and cereal/yogurt selection. I would skip the eggs, breakfast meats etc. they were bland and the texture was off. It was evident the hotel is cutting corners to save money and that is sad. I expect more out of a Marriott property. We almost exclusively book Marriott properties when traveling. This one was quite the disappointment.

First off, parking for The Fairmont is $10 for self-parking or $56 for valet parking. While the valet parking fee is quite hefty, the valet attendant did let us know in advance of both options. I opted for valet because I would have either had to backup or drive around the block to self-park and, well, why not treat ourselves further on this festive day while we were all dressed up soooo we did valet parking. Then, the hotel lobby was emaculate and festively decorated for Christmas with a tree, Santa's mailbox, and garland adorning the stairs. We made our way upstairs to the grand ballroom with assistance by pleasant hotel staff. There was another Christmas tree there. The ballroom was large, tables with tablecloths were set about the room, and there was a pianist and cellist playing. Service was buffet-style with staff assisting us with what was what. There was a meat station with turkey, ham, and prime rib, salad and soup station with butternut squash soup and French onion soup, a station with sides including Brussels sprouts, glazed carrots, yams, potatoes, green bean casserole, dressing, etc., a coffee station, and a dessert station with bourbon pecan pie, pumpkin pie, blueberry cobbler (star of the show), and more. Everything was delicious, staff was excellent. Two notes to elevate the experience: 1) next time setting up tables for two, staff could set it up so that guests don't have to straddle the table legs 2) for the price of $75, ya gotta have cocktail shrimp Would i do it again? The room was clean, comfortable and decorated well. If there is one issue I had, it was the light switches (confusing--but maybe only our room) and closet space or lack thereof. If anyone from the Maverick is reading this, please add a couple foldable luggage racks if there is no closet. Even though it was not a full service check-in desk, I never felt unattended to. I received text messages before check in with very detailed check-in information(with photos). We didn't have a tooth brush and they answered right away, even at 2am, with info on where I could find one(in the concierge cabinet). Next morning they checked in with me via text to see if I needed anything else. We stayed here for my son's college move in and it was a super convenient bus ride to CMU on the 71B off S Highland Ave. There are some great food places on Highland and an easy walk to Target and Trader Joe's. There's also the Carnegie public library just next door-- stocked with kids books, activity space. If you don't need a lot of personal interaction for your stay, I would recommend this place. If you're looking for a modern, no frills place, I would also absolutely recommend it.

This was my second time staying since it became The Maverick (formerly ACE). It still has the same decor and setup as ACE. I stayed here back in May with my boyfriend when we were back in Pittsburgh for him to run the annual Dick's Sporting Goods Marathon. The stay was great, and as I mentioned in my initial review, the perfect city location, as it is one neighborhood over from where we lived previously. Ok, let's get back to my most recent stay (October 16-October 20, 2025). I was in town on my own for my nephew's wedding. Everything was fine. Arrived on Thursday and all seemed good. Then late into Friday night, early Saturday morning (middle of the night), I couldn't sleep, and the comforter became a tangled mess. I turned on the light to get everything straightened out, only to find bloody grossness. Like literal blood. At the bottom of the fitted sheet, I found two small-medium, dried blood stains. I started freaking out, thinking I was bleeding. Of course, it wasn't from me, and it was clear the blood was set in. After a thorough examination, I found the flat sheet with sprinkles of blood at the top of it. Was it human blood? Bug blood? Did they not change the sheets from the last guest? What was it? And why did I sleep on it for two nights without knowing? Absolutely disgusting!!! Note that this is a virtual, self-service concept hotel, which is normally fine. I don't need the sheets changed while I'm there, etc. But, obviously, I did now. It goes without saying, I didn't sleep the rest of the night. I immediately texted my concerns to the hotel (the only way to communicate with them is via text; sometimes there is a concierge on-site, sometimes not). I told them I was freaking out and worried about it being from bugs and/or humans. I told them I was ready to puke (totally true). They answered within an hour, I think, and advised the room would be looked at as soon as possible, as they had other rooms scheduled for cleaning. OK? It was fine, though, because I had a hair appointment and was leaving. While I was at the salon, they sent a text that the room was checked for bugs and all was good. They advised that they changed the sheets as a precaution. A precaution?!? I brought it to their attention. THERE WAS BLOOD ON THE SHEETS. What more precaution do you need? BTW, I have pics, but too gross to post. So I asked for a refund from them and Expedia. Expedia advised that they couldn't do so without the hotel's agreement. Expedia offered to try and find another hotel, but there just wasn't time; this was the day of my nephew's wedding! As long as the sheets were clean and there were no bugs, I thought I would be fine. However, I did feel a refund was still in order. The hotel did not agree. But, they did extend to me, as a "one-time courtesy," a $30 e-gift card (Mastercard) good for 14 days. WHAT?!?! Of course, I took it because I wasn't going to be compensated otherwise. Expedia gave me $175 credit (never expires) on my account for future bookings through them. So they (Expedia) did the right thing. The Maverick by Kasa did NOT. What a disgusting and unhealthy experience to end with a slap in the face of a $30 gift card good for only 14 days. I am still flabbergasted. Do yourself a favor: DO NOT STAY HERE. EVER!!!

The lady checking me in was friendly, but didn't seem to care about status as she made no mention of it, which isn't a problem, but she also told me it would cost $50 to check in early. I let her know I was Titanium and she said it didn't matter, they charge this no matter status. I've heard that there was a charge for early check in at other Marriott locations, but not if you're Platinum or higher. Anyway, they upgraded me using suite night rewards, which it's rare for me to be able to actually get, so this was nice to have. The corner king suite I got was really nice looking with beautiful views of the stadium and river. The bathroom is huge too, plenty of room throughout the entire room to spread out! The only issues with the room were they give those small, half size bottles of water in the room and there wasn't too many USB/AC outlets within the room; in fact, the desk area only had a single wall outlet available and nothing else - not very tech-friendly room. The bathroom I had offered a separate shower which was huge, a water closet, and a large soaker tub. Shower worked great and they offered nicely scented hand soap, gel, and shampoo. An issue I experienced in the bathroom was being in the water closet too long and the lights shutting off... in my situation, since I was alone, I never closed the door when in their, but if I was with someone else, the room light sensor is in the main bathroom, near the entry to the bathroom with no switches at all in the water closet. So if the door was closed, you'd be in a dark room in a few minutes when the light decide to shut off - this is a crazy thing for them to overlook when designing the room! On the 14th floor they have their concierge level with lounge. The lounge was only open in the mornings, I think from 6:30AM to around 10AM and they only do breakfast service, but it is a full breakfast with decent looking scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, scones/muffins, breads, juices, fruits, and coffee. I went each morning and got coffee and yogurt. The attendant was friendly. A few times each evening they do some really silly, odd, and annoyingly loud music and light show in the lobby area. They do a light show and crank up the music and it's all choregraphed. The quality of the audio system is terrible, so this light show sounds like it's coming from a 1980's boombox - silly. It was annoying to our group each time and from looking around at others who were also there for business, they weren't impressed either. The common areas of the hotel are grand and gorgeous! The white marble everywhere is stunning too. Definitely a beautiful and historic property! Valet was very friendly, all of them were! They greeted us each time we came through, as well as opened the door to the hotel. The staff was very friendly, the place is beautiful. I'd definitely return here... Nice place to stay!

I repeat, we were 2 couples sharing a room, and there was no surety of privacy in the bathroom. our front door... neither closed, nor opened. hotel doors usually close completely on their own. not this one! you had to force it shut every time, and then... sometimes it wouldn't open from the outside. 2 of us (ladies) had to ask a male stranger staying across from us to help force our door open; the other 2 (men) were fortunate to only struggle when someone was on the inside and able to open it from the inside. there was a hole in the wall where the fire sprinkler was. and the wedding food was easily the worst we've ever had - dry as sand, not a pinch of seasoning (not even salt). hilariously bad. $400 (or so) per night?! laughable.

The one thing I would note, I'm not sure if I'd use EVEN for a homebase if you're going to be out drinking and staggering in late night. When you're in the hotel lobby and hotel, you're safe. When it's day time, you're safe but there is a ton of city noise and people noise(on the streets) late into the night. With the paragraph above, I want to add you walk into the building and take the elevator up to the 5th floor. The hotel is on floor 5 and 6. The cool thing is I think they also own their lobby on the first floor. If you're not walking to/from places, it's a great lobby to wait on your Uber(or food delivery) if you need. I liked that touch to this location. This EVEN is like most. Just a different layout. A what you need gym. Workout equipment in the room. Your typical room amenities. Clean. Great staff. Small marketplace with snacks/drinks. An onsite cafe/restaurant to eat and drink until you're content. This location also has a game room. I noticed ping pong and cornhole but they might've had other things in that room. There is an iParkit garage directly across the street. Just buy your parking online and make sure you get in/out privileges. When visiting any city, parking can sometimes be a challenge. Did it cost to park in that garage... yes, but it took that hassle out of the trip completely. Great garage. I'll easily stay here again the next time I'm in Pittsburgh! Great spot!
