a coffee shop with shelves of coffee

Hey folks very interesting place from the outside you would never know that all this wonderful coffee comes in to the world from this location well a few other locations as well we met Candace today and unfortunately we didn't read to see that they were close, but she was kind enough to let us in and take us on a little private tour And she gave us some coffee. We had a great time. Thanks Candace for letting us in and can't wait to see you guys on Friday

If I could give Counter Culture more stars I would! As someone who loves learning about new things, I've found the Friday morning coffee tastings so informative. I love how organized the Counter Culture team is. They have it down and everything seems to run very smoothly. When I leave I feel like I could run a marathon from all the caffeine though. I've been here twice, once with out of town family and another time with some coworkers. We took an early lunch break. When you go in, they give you a cup of coffee, then you learn about Counter Culture, the coffee you'll be tasting, and how to cup coffee. Then, the group splits up, some will go on a tour while others get a shot of espresso or a cappuccino. Then the tour comes back in and the ones who has espresso go on the tour. The tour is very informative and they take the time to answer everyone's questions. You can tell they all love their jobs! This is a must stop if you're in Durham on a Friday!

Went to the coffee tasting. Really cool way to learn about the coffee we're tasting and understand more about the brewing and roasting process. We were able to go on a tour of the Durham roastery afterwards. FYI, you don't get cups of coffee to sample. It's in one cup and people go around sampling with spoons. In any case, a fun experience!

Are you or someone you love a Coffee Lover? Here's a cool (and Free) thing to do in Durham: Counter Culture's 'Tasting at Ten' Every Friday at 10 AM,  stop and taste coffee and enjoy a tour of Counter Culture Coffee Headquarters and Training Center. Open to the Public, rain or shine, they welcome friends, customers, and all coffee lovers to these free tastings to come together at their regional training centers. Each week Counter Culture chooses a coffee or coffees to feature and a complimentary brewing method. Today we tried  The Andes, limited release a blend of 2 coffees from the Andes Mountain range. High quality, sweet from Columbia/Peru. We learned how to identify the Flavor,Acidity, and Body of the coffee. Participants are guided through the tasting (no experience necessary, all are welcome) and Counter Culture shares details about where the coffee comes from and why they love it. After the tasting, we went on a tour of the Durham roastery. Tasting + Tour lasts an hour. Both fun and informative, this is a great way to start the morning and a cool day date idea.

Counter Culture Coffee isn't just a business it's a experience. I joined some friends for their Friday tastings and it was absolutely amazing. While there we sampled coffee from Peru + Colombia it was called Andes. We were able to try a pour over, espresso and cupping. We toured the facility and were able to ask lots of questions. The staff was absolutely amazing. I really enjoyed the set up + layout of the space. They had water for you just in case the coffee was a bit much. One of the things that I loved about it was the educational piece they give you that goes with each coffee. I recently visited Peru so sipping coffee from there brought me back. Overall beautiful place, pleasant staff and you should definitely check out their Friday tastings.....

I began my love affair with Counter Culture Coffee by asking "Is it Counter Culture coffee?" after the meal at every local restaurant I visited about 10 years ago. If the answer was yes; the coffee served was always the cherry on top of the rest of the meal. After a year of this I started buying CCC fresh roast whole beans, a burr grinder and a Capresso flask drip brewer to bring this particular slice of heaven to our domestic setting. I thank god (and my wife) for leading me to the Carolina Piedmont every time I smell CCC brewing in the morning. I have been to the warehouse for a Friday cupping and tour. I enjoyed sharing the passion that CCC has for all bean growers they work with. I love the names they give to their beans and the postcards you can pick up and mail out. The best retail outlet for Counter Culture beans is "A Southern Season". Despite being a tourist trap for all the UNC Chapel Hill B-Ball day trippers Southern Season carries most (if not all) CCC beans and at the best price. Due to the good prices and wide selection the beans they offer are always fresh. My all time favorite bean is "Purple Princess" which is currently sold out. Not to worry - the coffee salesperson had another suggestion that was just as good. If you are not in the local area and want to sample some of the Counter Culture coffee magic go to www.counterculturecoffee.com and use the mail order option. You will not be disappointed.

Educational cupping was informative

Drove from Charlotte to attend one of the cuppings. I nearly passed it because I was not expecting it to be so small. When I parked I had no idea where to go, but the lady helped me out and was very nice about it. I finally found the right location and all the staff were incredibly friendly, informative and really relaxed us as a crowd of random strangers. The room itself was very relaxing too. Had a very home feel to it. Prior to the actual cupping we all were given a shot of espresso if we wanted. Caffeine before caffeine is always a win. The whole ordeal was really fun for something educational. It really opened my eyes to how serious Counter Culture is about their coffee, the whole process of finding beans, roasting them perfectly seems so methodical. If you have a real love of coffee or are trying to get into coffee I highly recommend attending a Counter Culture cupping.

Why is this place only open for an hour once a week? Very disappointing for such a major coffee chain.

When I moved here from Seattle, I was really surprised that there was such a serious coffee buyer and roaster in Durham.

My husband and I visited Teer House twice in the last week, once for a breastfeeding class, and once for a class on baby care, both of which could be used as an intro for noobs (this totally describes us, haha!), or as a refresher for been there, done that parents. Teer House is a great big white house off of S. Roxboro Road. It's on the opposite side of the street and a ways down from Durham Regional. It has a big circular drive with very few parking spaces. If a space is not available, you can park in the circular drive in front of the house. The big set of steps mark the main entrance. Typically there is someone sitting just inside the main entrance to mark your name off and direct you to the appropriate location. Both of our classes were downstairs, but there are several spots in Teer House for folks to meet. There are plenty of toilets and they're really good about telling you where they are (not gonna front: this is VERY important info for preggy ladies). There's a Coke machine upstairs, and a few water coolers around. Both classes we took were excellent. It's funny that we took two classes in four hours total (two hours apiece), but the two classes we took on labor and childbirth preparation were for a total of twenty hours (the first was a six-week series with two-hour classes, the second was two four-hour classes). And now I know it's because every parent and child is different. So much of tending to your child's needs is completely arbitrary, but you'll figure it out eventually! It means a lot to have such experienced, friendly, and professional support from Duke. I feel like I have access to a fantastic network of nurses, physicians, and lactation consultants who will be able to help me out whenever I need it. It really is a great program.

The facility offers many general healthcare and wellness classes through Duke medicine. The facility is large and has multiple meeting rooms for various classes at once. While I had some trouble getting us registered for the class itself, since everything is handled by volunteers, I could not get too frustrated with the person on the phone when they did not get our online registration. However, following up multiple times by phone got everything straight. The class we took was informative and contained a good deal of general baby care information. While there were too many deets on breast feeding, the nurse running the class was a lactation consultant, so it makes sense why that was her focus. All in all we learned a good deal and will be heading back for an additional class with a physician and another class on CPR.
