I had a great time at Lazy F Camp this past weekend going along with a mushroom foraging club. The…read moreconditions were just right to make it feel like a real summercamp and so the facilities are rustic, though there is a small wifi and outlets. Tucked away near the Manastash river, it's got great views and such chill vibes. The reason I gave it five stars was because the cafeteria staff was incredibly accommodating for diverse diets, not to mention the food was fantastic. Being vegan, going to something like this is generally a miss but they delivered and I was going back for seconds. The only improvement they'd need to make would be adding some other proteins, like tempeh or tofu, for that truly bomb curry we had. A+ and we will be back.

Of course my first few years were accompanied by my parents who were working or attending the summer camps. As soon as I was "of age" I started going as a camper. Going to Lazy F was something I looked forward to every year. The grounds are well kept and beautiful. The cabins and food lodge are all clean and well maintained. Nearly every person I've ever encountered working there is professional but still fun oriented. There are a few different places to hike, and a pond to fish in (though I hear it may have over flown since I've been there so I am not entirely sure what type of situation that is). There are some beautiful big open fields for activities. And every time I've been there I've seen deer and other wild life at LEAST once. Even in the winter it's beautiful with a great hill for inner-tubing down. It is a great place to make memories that will last for a lifetime.

Roza Recreation Site is a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) recreation site in the Yakima River…read moreCanyon towards the southern end of the canyon. A sign for the site is clearly visible from Washington State Route 821 (also called Canyon Road) and the entry drive and parking lot inside the entrance are both paved. I purchased a day use permit (good on all BLM managed lands for the day) on site. The pay area was clearly marked and the instructions for how to pay and display your day use or overnight use permit were posted by the pay drop-box and easy to follow. I did a little walking around. A map of the site is posted that provides the lay of the land. There are spots allocated for camping, picnic tables area, and a boat ramp/waterfront area. There were some grassy/treed areas one could explore past the campsites, but I stayed in closer to the parking lot on my visit. The rocks in the Yakima River Canyon are gorgeous, and the basalt cliffs on the far side of the canyon from Roza are no exception. Beautiful location to just take in the beauty of nature. It was windy the day I stopped. Hedgy the Hedgehog, my travel companion of the day, and I sat at the picnic tables and decided it was too windy and she might blow away if she sat there while eating so we stayed in the car to eat. After eating we used the restrooms and departed to explore the canyon driving north on Washington State Route 821. Restrooms at this location are pit toilets that one cannot throw trash into. I was on my period, so this mattered. The restrooms at the other BLM managed lands I stopped at along Washington State Route 821 are also pit toilets. I figured this to be the case when I stopped here (my first BLM land of the day) so adjusted accordingly. No trash in the toilets when on your period means the feminine hygiene products one is using, be it pads and/or tampons, cannot be thrown in the toilets. I bring ziplock bags on my adventures just for this reason. Wrap the pad, tampons aren't my thing, and seal it in a ziplock bag and throw it in a trash can. I find ziplock bags do a good job of lessening the blood smell. Other bags work too. If you don't want to carry the hygiene product outside of the restroom with you there are rest areas along Interstate 90 (I-90) where disposal of pads and/or tampons is simple and straight forward. On this visit, in the afternoon on Monday the 29th of June 2020, the recreation site was not very busy and the parking lot not very full. One of the perks of adventuring on a non-holiday weekday if you can!

I love that they only take 4 babies at a time and have lots of toys and books for the babies to play with. I don't know about the other rooms since I had to discontinue my son's care there when he turned 1 due to a change in our work schedules, but I would definitely recommend the infant room. If we ever need full time care again I will look into using this daycare center. The other benefit is that they are very affordable if you are a cash paying parent. The office staff is also very friendly and I really did like the director, whom I believe is Jessica? The ONLY reason I give 4 stars is because if the normal infant room teachers are out (which rarely happens.) They have to use subs - which they could use a little bit more training I feel. Most times the subs were awesome though. Its just hard leaving your child with someone new and who doesnt know them well.

This place has gone from great to disgusting and unsafe over the past couple of years. Management…read morehas turned over a couple of times since then and teacher staff is now a revolving door. We just pulled our daughter out of there because they aren't even pretending to apply a curriculum for pre-k. They're babysitters, now, and not even very good ones at that. Most recently, we found soiled clothing stuffed into her backpack with her other clothing, sheet, and blanket. Not in a bag, just right into her backpack which now is soaked with urine. My four-year-old doesn't often have accidents, but good lord, what lazy, thoughtless person thought this was ok? During the pandemic, staff was supposed to be masked. Almost daily, either on dropoff or pickup, there were staff seen in classrooms or in the office (the part parents and kids walk though) either completely without a mask or the mask pulled down. Every time I brought it up, I was told that they'd "mention it in a staff meeting" or confirm that yes, it is their policy for staff to mask up. Regardless of your views on masking, the fact that they just didn't enforce their own policies that are supposed to be in place for safety, is unacceptable. The owner, Tom, also spread misinformation during the pandemic regarding masks and other preventive measures via signage posted at the center and at the summer camp location. This place started going down hill quickly when the director (a couple of directors ago, I think) left. Andrea was the last good one, but it was clear that she was being hamstrung from actually doing anything good there. I know it's tough finding a child care center these days, but please, if you have the option, look elsewhere. I'm sure there are other places just as bad or worse, but I no longer trust this place to keep my child safe and certainly not to prepare her for kindergarten. The dozen or teachers who have cycled through that room in the past few months have been uninterested in getting to know the kids, have completely ignored kids who clearly needed attention, were downright mean to kids (witnessed during dropoff on numerous occasions). If you can help it, please trust your children to another center. Also, the five star review that this is updating was written with the promise of a starbucks giftcard. I'm not sure how many other positive reviews are genuine.

Well this time I made it happen and it was a fantastic experience. They were too booked up to take my full party (don't be like us...book ahead at least a couple days for this!) but they were able to squeeze me in as a solo person morning of since I was the one who really wanted to do it. The price was fair (about $25 per adult, not sure about kids) and the ride is 30 minutes. They provide warm fuzzy blankets for during the ride and hot cocoa at the end of your ride. They will also take photos of you with your camera on the sleigh. The ride was super relaxing (snow was falling!) and since I was by myself, I got to sit up front with the guide even though there were two other families on the ride with me. The scenery was beautiful. If the conditions are right and you are here in the winter, it's a great family friendly activity. It was definitely the highlight of my trip! The signs are easy to spot from the road and parking is easy. You can book online in advance through their website or if you get lucky last minute (like me), you can pay onsite (cash or card).

Trail clearing of fallen trees that block access to the trail system. As you can see in the pictures it's not just some leisurely ride into the cascade mountains, it was work. But it was good work. Like a great CrossFit workout. Cutting these trees is all done with a hand saw, because you cannot use any gas or electrical equipment in the wilderness. In conjunction with the U.S. Forest service these trails get cleared and opened up for all hikers to enjoy. So if you're ever out there on these trails take time to think about how they got cleared of the trees you walk through when you see those cut logs laying there.
