I love the staff & dentists, however, the crown they were going to put in my mouth was such poor quality! The dentist drilled through the crown while shaving down the chewing surface with me in the chair & once that happened I got freaked out and never went back! The dentist offered to make me another one but it was going to be the saaaame quality from the saaame lab as the first one, I declined! I have highly enjoyed my experience at Cottage Dental. Everyone from the staff, to the assistants, to the dentists are extremely friendly and I have always had such pleasant visits. I can't say enough about how good this place is. I have high anxiety, and scared of the dentist. This place was wonderful. Tiffany, Maddie, and Dr. Ortega made my visit great :) I drive pretty far to come to Cottage Dental but it's definitely worth it PARKING: There's a cute little parking lot outside! AMBIENCE: Very relaxing. There is coffee available for anybody who wants it, the bathroom is always clean! SERVICES: Cottage Dental is "gentle dental" for a reason! The chairs are reclining and soft, and even have a massage feature now. There is a TV available for anybody who wants to watch it! The staff is great at walking you through what they are doing (i.e. scoring your teeth, polishing your teeth) and it's as comfortable as seeing the dentist can be! Cottage Dental did not want my business. I hate to write a negative review especially after reading so many good ones, but my visit to their office was so odd. My appointment was for an Invisalign consultation. I am in my 50s and I've been on the fence for a few months about whether or not to go forward with this procedure or not. This was to be my second opinion. Invisalign is quite expensive, so I want to be sure that I get the best treatment and the best price. The doctor that helped me was nice enough, but told me that middle aged women were her worst patients and that she had had many that simply stopped treatment. When I asked her if there was a way for her office to provide a mock up or a sample that I could try just to see if these were going to work for me, she simply said "No, we don't do that." I told her that I was shopping around because I had been quoted $6,185.00 elsewhere and I was hoping to get a better deal. After a cursory examination, she said my first quote is pretty much the same as what they charge at Cottage Dental and sure enough is was. Before I left they handed me a piece of with a small graph indicating simply; Invisalign quote - $6,200.00 on one line and Retainers - $450.00 on the other and nothing else. No other information. Like they thought I wasn't really serious, but they had to give me something on a piece of paper so I would leave. So I went to my 3rd and last appointment to Dr. Lyons in Placentia. I should have just come here first. He is awesome! He did a thorough examination (took photos and measurements etc..) and is now going to make me a pair of mock braces to try (for free) to see if they will work for me and fit into my lifestyle. They will be ready for me in a couple of days and I can't wait to try them out. If they work out, I am going to start treatment in two weeks! Dr. Lyons understands that a patient/consumer should have as much information as possible about a treatment program/product before they make their purchase. He took me seriously and treated me as a potential patient and bonus: his treatment plan costs less than the others! The people in his office are lovely and he has a wonderful and friendly manner. Finally unlike the sad sheet of paper that I received at Cottage Dental, Dr. Lyon's treatment plan was detailed, professional, clear and concise and included all of the financial information as well. So while I hate to be the one who writes a negative review in a sea of positive ones (it just confuses people who are researching businesses) it is none the less, a true account of what happened to me at Cottage Dental. Starting with Army dentistry, I have had horrid experiences with dentists. Cottage dental is the first place I have gotten novacaine without any pain whatsoever. Amazing dentist if you have great dental insurance coverage. I've been coming to Cottage Dental for a few years now after my friend referred me. This is the first dentist I've enjoyed going to. They're thorough, friendly, clean, and cognizant of clients' time. My hygenist, Diane, is so sweet, gentle, and fantastic at her job. I've seen both Drs. Nguyen and Paco. *Anesthesia works fast so appointments for fillings are easily done within 1 hr; it's like you never had a cavity! *In-house crown maker so you don't have to run around town with a jagged half molar *Personal TV monitor for DVDs + headphones for each chair; rom-coms and dental hygiene = fun + efficient! *Absurd amount of polish flavors to choose from *Primarily female staff, which is pretty cool *Great waiting room with Keurig and water, comfortable seating, chargers *Cute office space; California bungalow converted into a dental office, but access in and out of the small lot can be frustrating Why not 5 stars then? Because dental treatments outside of preventative care are $$$. That convenient in-house crown maker doubled the price I'd normally pay for a crown, even with all the discounts (when my insurance wasn't that great). Now that my insurance is fantastic and all my dental issues have been resolved, I won't be able to use Cottage Dental bills toward credit card bonus minimum spend... My wife, Beeper, and I have been patients of Dr. Nguyen since 1993, over 20 years. We moved from Anaheim to Palm Springs in 2001, but we have continued to drive to Orange County for the best dental care we've ever had in our lives. I am almost 65 and still have 32 teeth. I go to this office quarterly for a professional cleaning. Every procedure has been explained and performed with unparalled expertise. They made every effort to be sure I was comfortable, and they are really good at educating patients about dental health. The staff in this office is ALL FEMALE, dentists and assistants, most of whom have long hair. I can't say enough good things about this office and Dr. Nguyen. I recommend it to EVERYONE. read more

Cottage Dental is AMAZING!!! I have a 9 year old autistic son who needed to see a dentist. I checked the Yelp reviews and decided to give Cottage Dental a try. It was his first time so we were very nervous about how he would react but the staff at Cottage Dental was amazing and my son did very well. He had a baby tooth pulled and his teeth cleaned PLUS 2 baby root canals, all with NO PAIN!! We were thrilled!!! After the great experience with my son, I decided I would give them a try as well. I needed several teeth pulled as well as options for replacement. I have never liked going to the dentist but could not put the work off any longer. The extractions were absolutely PAINLESS, and I am not exaggerating!!! I actually felt like hugging the dentist that did them as I was so shocked how effortless it was. My followup care was excellent, and we worked out a plan that would not break my pocketbook! Soon, my smile will be back in full swing!!! I cannot recommend Cottage Dental highly enough!!! Absolutely AWESOME experience here! Nothing but great things to say about Cottage Dental! Previously, I hated my former dentist. They were a large, corporate company and I would see a new set of staff each time I went. I would never get my cleaning the same day, and would have to reschedule to come back in and get my cleaning (yeah right). The breaking point was when the dentist drilled on my teeth without anesthetic, and of course I felt it. Finally having enough, I searched for a new dentist and came across cottage dental. Upon my 1st appointment, I saw shown around the office and consulted on what I wanted from a dentist. I had a full exam and cleaning, and was frequently checked on to see how I was doing. First appointment here was shorter than a regular appointment at my previous dentist! I even came back for a small filling, and was in and out of the office in literally 30min, completely painless. The staff is super friendly! The dentist was awesome and also showed compassion for her patient! I am referring everyone I can to Cottage Dental! Give them a try, you won't regret it. read more

Terrible. I got crowns here and they HURT. They refuse to fix them and suggested I just get used to it. One of the crowns isn't even sealed. They said to just be sure to floss it well. Another crown is "Leaking" - I paid A LOT out of pocket for this and I have to now get all the dental work re-done. SKIP this place if for anything but cleanings. SERIOUSLY!! read more

I hate getting my teeth cleaned because I'm sensitive to the vibrations, it's like nails on a chalk board to me... it's so much easier for me when I come here because they have TVs in the room and provide me with headphones & let me go on netflix. My kids have seen Dr. Tran since they were 1 year old, and more recently, Dr. Chen. Both dentists were fantastic with my kids; patient and sweet, even when my kids would dawdle to try to avoid more teeth cleaning. From the waiting room to the exam lanes, this office is a fun place for kids. Each exam lane is painted with a different animal scene, and is outfitted with a tv so that the kids can watch movies while listening over headphones as they're being treated. Upon completion, the kids get to choose a toy from a token machine - they love it! They're also sent home with a goody bag - Disney character toothbrushes, mini toothpaste and mini floss. If your kids dread going to the dentist, have no qualms about bringing them to Cottage Dental. They will leave smiling for sure! read more

I have been going to cottage dental for just over a year now. It started out as a search for a dentist that could provide with Invisalign, and now my entire family goes to cottage dental, though none of us actually live anywhere near it anymore! As for Invisalign, it is a great way to get your teeth straightened and adjusted, with none of the annoying wires of braces. It is set up so that you put on a new set of Invisalign retainers every two weeks, to slowly move your teeth into better positions. I am very happy with the end result, and found that it takes someone with a keen eye to notice them at all. Cottage Dental office is by far, one of the friendliest groups of dentists and dentist assistants out there. I have been going to this office for about five years. All of the staff are amazing and genuinely care about you. I especially love Diane, as she has made me feel so comfortable over the years. This place is overly, unnaturally nice but please know that they're here to make money as well. The short version is they love to offer you expensive procedures that you don't need. They readily recommended me to replace all my amalgam fillings even though most of them were still fine, always suggested root canal procedures when they could not correct my bite after they did my fillings, and very often blamed my teeth grinding in my sleep as the reason why their fillings constantly chip and crack and said I should get night guard for the teeth grinding (which I don't do. I had 2nd opinion.) Now the long version: When I first started going here 5 years ago, I had a bunch of amalgam fillings in my molars so the first thing Dr. Pacao suggested was for me to replace them with tooth-colored resin-based composite fillings since they're covered by my insurance now. Maybe one or 2 had new cavities but she suggested I removed them all. And I listened because she's the professional. Plus, I was excited because sure, tooth-colored fillings are a lot nicer looking. What I later found out is the FDA does not recommend the removal of amalgam fillings, unless they become problematic on their own, because it might cause more harm to the tooth structure and other health risks. In addition, my insurance covered them only up to a certain percentage but I still had to pay the remainder to get them. Yay, I paid to fix what's not broken. The office then scheduled me to have all 4 teeth done on the one side (upper and bottom) in one visit. After the visit, my bite was so off that it hurt everytime I chewed food. I came back 3 more times to adjust the bite but it still didn't help. The doctors then proceeded to tell me maybe I need a root canal.. They said it is not the fillings but there are some other issues. Uh, no. So I waited it out for about 6 months with all the pain everytime I chew so eventually, my bite was adjusted just from eating. They said they schedule all at once like this to save my time, but to be honest, I think it's more to save their time, make room for more patients. From that experience, I learned that maybe I should not have more than 2 teeth done at a time, depends on the tooth location because if they're all new fillings, there's no tooth with already good chewing surface next to it to help adjust the new bite. I came back and slowly got my amalgam fillings on the other side replaced. No matter how many times I come back to adjust the bite, it didn't help and they once again suggested root canal. Stop "offering" root canal procedure because clearly, I didn't need it 5 years later! The pain was from imbalanced bite. I just waited it out until my bite got adjusted from eating again. Luckily, this time, it didn't take long because it was only one tooth at a time. I was young, lazy, and clueless so instead of looking for a new dentist, I stayed. After all, now that the amalgam fillings were all replaced, I just came in to get cleanings and that was fine. But that's when the stupid composite fillings started chipping and cracking within 2 years. I had the amalgams before for 10 years plus with no problems. The good news was they did have warranty so I got maybe 1 or 2 filling replaced for free. They told me I must be grinding my teeth to wear down these fillings so fast and I should consider buying a night guard. I went to another dentist and he actually took a mold of my teeth to verify if I grind my teeth or not. Guess who doesn't grind her teeth? Me! So once again, Cottage Dental suggested another expensive thing that I don't need. I'm finally fed up and moved on but I now live with crappy fillings that chip and break. Can't believe it but I miss my amalgam fillings. So yeah, be smart, don't blindly trust the professionals when it comes to your health (even if their office is so nice), and always get a second opinion. read more

In general, Cottage Dental is number one in ethical, honest treatment; customer service; and communication. I switched over to Cottage Dental six years ago, and it was the best decision for my teeth. The technology alone was impressive (instant photos of teeth to examine results of care), televisions on wall for entertainment (or distraction). My former dentist had been lacking in any updates since the 1980s, plus he had not truly been cleaning inside my gum lines (as was evidenced by the complete care I was now receiving from Cottage). Recently, I had a protective layer placed on the top of a front tooth (to prevent gum-line exposure) with Dr. Pat. She was communicative about what she would be doing and was sensitive to any discomfort. I also appreciated how she helped me be proactive with my mouth: I didn't have a problem at the moment, but it was getting there. She identified it six months ago at a cleaning, and I took care of something before it actually became a pain. I am always a fan preventative care. She and all of the dental assistants are super sweet, kind, and considerate. The assistant always remembers what I do for a living and asks about my daughter (and I only see her once every six months! I have acquaintances who are not as aware.) If nothing else can convince you, maybe this will: As a person who has had at least 30 fillings (to be fair to myself, I replaced all the silver with porcelain) and used to cry before every dental visit as a child, I now actually LOOK FORWARD to going to the dentist. They do privately discuss finances for procedures that may not be fully covered by insurance, which I think is more professional then doing it around other patients.
