Bought whole new bedding as to not use the ones provided (nothing is disinfected in these cottages, and apparently is primarily the guests responsibility to prepare the cabin for the next guests, as mistaken for "vintage" or "rustic" by other guests but it's really you breathing in the previous guest skin cells and bacteria. Wear your shower shoes!) Later after leaving being blamed for a "stain" on the unused comforter that was packed away. Upon leaving I'm told there's an issue with our cabin. It needed a deep clean due to "too much dog hair" so much so that after only 8 days broke the (hopefully regularly) emptied staff vacuum. Even after passing our visual inspection, when we were only asked to keep the hair on the furniture and floors to a minimum. Not spit-shine the facility. For "whatever reason" this deep clean was needed after us, but still happened to miss the used q tips on the living room floor before we arrived even after having such a "strenuous inspection". We were required to know every unwritten rule. But all the while there are people not picking up after their dogs, breaking beds and leaving a giant yellow piss rings around the toilet that will be welcomed back warmly. Some of which being employed by the owner.

Reasonable rates, friendly people running the place, and right at the edge of the Moosalamoo wilderness. If hiking, fishing, running, cycling, swimming, snowshoeing or cross country skiing is your thing, this is a great location. Great trails are right nearby. We stayed in cabin #6. Very cozy and fully equipped. The cottages are rustic and simple, and reminds us of a time when cute housekeeping cottages dotted the VT landscape. If you need anything it's right near Middlebury and Brandon.

I think my favorite part of staying there was visiting with Gary and Zelia for an hour (or two?) the night we arrived. It was so interesting to learn about how their lives led them to Middlebury. The eggs florentine for breakfast the next morning stands out as my favorite meal. Kind of makes me wish our son hadn't graduated yet.

The hiking options are great, short or long. The people are the biggest thing we love. They are friendly and helpful, and treat you like friends from the moment you arrive. You feel you are home here. The Inn has served as an Inn for decades, and Tony helped expand on repair of it in his soon to be 50 yrs time living here. We love the indoor courtyard filled with plants like a greenhouse even during the winter. It is one of the best places I have ever been.

Kevin and Scott have done an incredible job since taking over the Inn. It is just what you would hope for as far as ambiance, it is spotlessly clean, very comfortable everything in our room worked, not an easy thing in 200+ year old building. Thoughtful things like an open outlet at each night stand for charging electronics, plenty of room for putting your things away. Sid, the owner, went above and beyond to ensure a memorable night. He even gave us a ride on the oldest continuously operated elevator in Vermont! While it is a historic hotel, it's not without modern amenities and comfortable rooms. The room was warm and inviting. It needed a little updating and the doors don't close too well, but you'd expect that in a hotel from the late 1800s! Although we were only there overnight, I can see its potential for all year round stays, and even has the space and amenities for weddings. I will definitely consider the Historic Brandon Inn should the need arise in the future!

In getting to know these two…read morewonderful people for just the weekend, my guess is that there is no one more suited to running a B&B in Vermont. They are gracious hosts--providing hospitality in a thoughtful and charming way. They are knowledgeable about the local area (and many other topics), AND they cook a gorgeous, locally-sourced breakfast. They even made special egg-free dishes and cookies for me. What a treat! The Cornwall Orchards grounds are well-worth exploring especially if you like gardening, ecology, and permaculture practices. The house itself brims over with history and books--it's delightful. I could really feel the care that went into making this place a special retreat. Thank you both so much for going above and beyond for us. Our trip to explore the Middlebury area wouldn't have been nearly as well-rounded and insightful if it weren't for you. Our breakfasts were delicious, again all local ingredients. We sat and had great conversations with the other two guests. And Liese and Miles were so welcoming. Definitely a great first real bnb experience, I've recommended them to my family already!
