Hidalgo became a part of mi familia real quick…read more I was (who am I kidding, I still am) a poor, struggling, college student in Salt Lake and couldn't afford quality food between classes and work. I saw Hidalgo's taco stand while riding the Trax one day and decided to check it out. The tears of joy that rolled down my face when I saw that I could get get tacos for $1 that were filling was unlike anything else. The instant love I felt when I took the first bite of my steak tacos, garnished with my favorite tomatillo salsa and sour cream, and realizing that I wouldn't actually starve to death in college since these tacos were filling was something I will never, ever forget. Hidalgo was there for me when no one else was, keeping my excessive hunger at bay and my heart happy through his amazing street tacos. The burritos are just as great as well, but seriously, where else could you get $1 tacos? (Now $1.50 or 4 for $5). Because of this, Hidalgo and his wife(?) became part of my family. I visited multiple times per week while in school and never waited in long lines for my excellent tacos. I went back a year later after graduating and they were out in the snow, working as hard as ever. I decided that Hidalgo was going to be catering my wedding, my birthday parties, my half birthdays, basically anything that I need food for, he's that great.

They made the burrito w tons of meat, cheese, rice and I can't remember if there was beans or not. They left it open for me to add all the toppings I desired from coolers. Then I handed it back for them to wrap. This thing was soooo huge. I only ate half and it was delish. My boyfriend ordered 4 tacos. Each w a diff meat that he selected. He also got a large glass bottle of coke. Our bill total $21. Unbelievable. If I lived in SLC I would come here all the time. Plus the workers seemed really nice and kind to everyone. Love this place!!

LOCATION: there are two taco stands in this corner do make sure you visit the one facing state street. There is usually a line or a crowd but we lucked out this time and didn't have to wait. FOOD: Tacos are a $1.00 each and comes with your choice of protein (asada, lengua, pastor, etc) rice, beans, and grilled onions on top. In a cooler next to the taco stand are the all the lovely fixings: cilantro and onions, pico de gallo, sliced limes, salsa verde, a 2 different types of red salsa. STAFF: I believe this is a one man show. The cook behind the stand is so friendly and helpful. He warned me that the red salsa were spicy so be careful, but my stubborn self wanted to try it for myself .... My lips were on fire lol. He even gave me a free crispy tortilla to clean up the stuffing that dropped on the plate. For this place was closer to where I live, I would be here everyday! Im coming back soon. Very soon.

This sidewalk taco cart has a fun, casual vibe with plenty of parking either on the street or in the adjacent lot. I ordered two lengua tacos and a shrimp tostada, and all three were incredibly flavorful, with the tostada's mayo and special sauce stealing the show. The portions were generous, everything was served fresh and hot, and the prices (just $2 per taco!) make it an easy place to love. Even with a huge group, service was quick and smooth. I'd recommend this spot to any taco cart enthusiast--honestly, it's the best I've been to, and I'll definitely be back!

This is an odd service but it's acceptable especially since their foods are impeccably delicious!…read more You order and pay inside, then take your bill outside around the corner to the food cart. The cook makes the food, hands you the food, you add all the toppings you wish (without judgment), and can go back inside the restaurant (unless you grab the wrong door and end up at the barber) to sit at a table or wherever you wish to eat. I got to select however many meats with no toppings and was pain free for the rest of the day (conclusion for me: no additives triggered a wobbly digestion in response). Everything looked and smelled fresh. Ambiance: bit bare inside, definitely not cozy. But if you are there to get food and eat it, it should be good enough.

It's a cash-only establishment, and the prices are so low that you'll easily be able to have a nice meal for whatever you've got in your wallet. I enjoyed two tacos-a beef and a chicken, both absolutely amazing. The flavor is great, the tortillas are warm and fresh-everything about it is great. If you're looking for authentic street tacos and don't mind eating in your car or in the parking lot, this is a fantastic option. I may find myself driving over and setting up a taco picnic in the back of my truck this summer. Grab a plate and come join me.

It's way too early to tell, so take this review with a big old grain of salt. But I peeped this…read moretruck--not a cart, but a truck--on my way home from a sprinkler repair project. There's nothing to put you in the mood to reward yourself more than volunteering your time to help your little brother with a mess of a sprinkling system. They're located on the north side of 7800 S. in between 1300 West and Redwood Road just west of Sizzler. There's not much there, but you can't miss it - they run an extension cord from one of the local businesses and have a blazing OPEN sign in the front of the truck, a light on their sandwich board near the street, and the inside of the truck is lit up. A lighthouse guiding weary landscapers to meaty goodness. Naturally, I turned my ship around and found safe harbor in the parking lot. I'm not one who judges food by the person making or serving it; I think an eskimo is equally capable of making a fire-roasted pig as an islander, but for those of you who do keep track at home, my entire interaction with them was in Spanish. In fact, I never heard a word of English from them or their customers. For what it's worth. I went with a basic carnitas taco and asada taco. Both were tender, but the carnitas came away winner. I topped with an assortment of pickly things, pico de gallo things, radishy things, squeezed a lime, and squirted some of their special "Salsa Imperio" and "Salsa Hua...??? something or other." I knew I'd forget the name. The Imperio was too spicy for my wussy mouth, but the other was a little meaty, smoky, and perfect. I'll be back for that alone (and I promise to write down the name). They sell a few things that I don't see everywhere. Tacos made of lengua (tongue) and cabeza (head muscle). Can't wait to try them. They also had a mean looking torta that's calling my name. It's too early to tell, but having another bona fide truck running around and seeing some menu options looks promising. I don't know who runs the thing; there's a sign on it that says if they don't give you a receipt, call this number etc etc, which makes me believe it's not an owner/operator situation. Still, it's mean food and the gal running the show was supah cool and got food out fast. She told me they're located here Wednesday through Saturday for dinner only. 5-10 on Wednesday and Thursday, 5-11 on weekends. It's a little out of the way, but tongue tacos may be worth the drive. I'll be back with an emptier belly to investigate.

So I was really excited to hear that a taco truck is doing business on 7800 S in West Jordan. The menu here is pretty basic. Tacos are $1, tortas are $5, and they also do quesadillas and soups. From what I've had, I've been really impressed. The carne asada is flavorful, the carnitas are juicy and tender, and the barbacoa is bien picante. I tried the chicharron (pork rinds) and they definitely weren't my cup of tea. Soggy and spongy. No thanks. Their fixins bar is basic, but still offers a nice variety. They offer several sauces. One is orangeish and tastes a bit like peanuts, and that sucker is spicy. I usually stick to the gringo side and go with the green guacamole sauce. Really tasty stuff.
