The service I received was exceptional throughout. I went in needing several things: some loose nut and bolt hardware and a key fob and programming for my car. The counter person took the time to go through the drawers to select what was required. The store manager, Michael, handled my key fob. It was done very quickly and professionally. It was obvious he has had considerable experience working with these. I was recommended I use this store. In looking up the phone number, I accidentally called another local store with a question about my key fob. I was treated very abruptly and received rude responses. The person at that store couldn't be bothered to give me the time of day. Calling the Mercerville store was a completely opposite experience. I was there today and purchased two Adirondack chairs for my patio. I however have a sedan and was struggling to get the chairs into my car, but this kind worker came out of the store to help me. He was able to strap them into the trunk with bungee cords and didn't even make me purchase the cords. He was so patient, helpful, and kind! read more

Cane here to purchase an attachment to finish changing my car battery. I'm not the most handy guy so I was sitting looking upon the vast number of ratchets and sockets wondering what I needed to buy. Luckily an attendant was close by and helped me with my purchase. He easily identified what I would need to get the job done and I was off. I finished changing my battery in the parking lot and it took me about 20 minutes after I had the right tools. I'm thankful the attendant was so attentive otherwise I could have possible ended up in a Home Depot more confused than ever or had to wait another day. The isles were all clearly labeled and the store was neat and stocked. There was a short and manageable line at the register when going to pay. All of the staff was helpful and you definitely got the mom and pop feel. I would not hesitate in the future returning for any hardware needs. read more

It was Smith's Hardware and Sherri of Customer Service to the rescue of my wife's favorite two red MagLite flashlights from the 1990s. The bulbs have become as scarce as hen's teeth but Smith's had three. Topping that was Sherri's kind understanding that we Pennsylvanians get lost the moment we cross the Delaware River into NJ, so she mailed the bulbs to our home in Yardley. This store definitely has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I had a guy cut plexiglass for me, gave him the dimensions three times, and he still cut it wrong. He overcharged me for the glass he cut too large, denied he overcharged me, and would not issue a refund on the overcharge. It gets better, he argued with me (the customer) that I gave him the incorrect dimensions. Seriously, who argues with their customers?! This guy needs to go before he ruins what is a decent place to pickup what you need right in town. He makes Lowes and Home Depot customer service look spectacular! Kudos to Courtney for covering his butt, its a shame she has to stand up and apologize for this sham of an employee. read more

Mercer Ace Hardware is now called, "Smith's Ace Hardware." It is no longer at the corner of the very long Mercerville Shopping Center, but has moved several doors down in the same complex. The space was larger than expected when I walked in this week for the first time. Plenty big enough to inventory almost everything a DIY expert could hope for. Prices are higher than the big boxes out on the highway or down the road, but there is something to be said for convenience. The main difference aside from price, is the cramped sense of space as compared to the larger warehouse stores. As a result, the experience did not move me to explore the universe of tools, as often happens at the big boys. Still, I found the toilet flapper I needed for one bathroom, and the new toilet seat for another. They will be on my "Honey Do" list this weekend. That oval seat can't be returned once opened. Be sure you know the right size before you buy. AUGUST 29, 2016 EDIT - An astute Yelper has informed me that Mercer Ace never moved, but an addition to the shopping center was constructed to the left of this business, and made it appear to be farther east along the strip. In fact, it has not budged an inch. It was only my lack of diligence in getting the facts straight. I happily stand corrected. read more

I usually go to the Ace Hardware in Princeton, but occasionally have come to the store and they always have what I need.

Let me start by saying I have been going to this Ace store for over 20 years and have always been treated like a gentlemen. I went in on May 27th 2021 at 12:59 PM and was looking for a "Quick Coupler" and was not sure if the sizes matched from the one I had, so I asked the person behind the paint counter if he could help me out and it was as if I asked him to give up his first born. He grabbed the item looked at it for two seconds and said "what do you want" apparently when I first explain to him my issue he was not to interested in what I was saying. I apologized to him for disturbing him, since he was staring me down, when I asked him if he was in a hurry, because he put the part back in the package without even looking at the size and had to retake it out again, (I guess that was my fault). I never ever encountered issues at this Ace store the way I did this day. I guess with Covid out there nobody wants to work and only slim pickings to choose from out there...The owner should really take a good look at there employees attitudes which can ruin a good stores reputation very easily. I purchased the coupler but needed a lot of additional items but ended up going Lowe's which I was treated a lot better. Shame because I always like this Ace Store. read more

ACE Hardware is simply the worst place for casual home DIY guys to go and should come with a big red sign outside saying: "Caveat Emptor: ACE do not accept open-box returns" That might not matter to you for someone buying a small item like a nail etc, but when you get larger items you are screwed if theres a problem or you got the wrong thing! This policy is unique to ACE and due to their "mom and pop" operational style. Its also a HUGE problem for the casual DIY guy who isn't sure on what or the quantities he needs to get his/her job done. You can see scare stories all over the internet. Do note that both of the big box guys have no issue accepting open box returns but ACE have a sign in their store with weasle words which they'll point to if you try and make a return. But who looks at that sign when your going to buy something, you assume they'll have the same policy as their rivals. This is why most people go to ACE a few times, then get burned once (like me) and never return. Emails to their customer service mailbox bounce undeliverable - try it for yourself. Bottomline: ACE is OK if you're in a pinch or need something small and understand what you're getting into and the risks, but generally avoid for anything over $20 or where you're not sure what you need or the quantities - in that case you're just buying yourself trouble at ACE. read more

This is more of a modern version of the old hardware store. This store is conveniently located on the other side of town away from the big box stores. I take any screens that need to be repaired to Ace Hardware. They offer several options including pet proof screens. I often come here when I need small numbers of screws or bolts. You are always greeted by someone when you enter the store. This place is small but still carries a wide variety of items. It was very convenient when I was working because I could stop either on my way to work or my way home. This is also a family owned business along with Yardville Supply and another store in Princeton. read more

I thought for a moment whether This Ace location deserved 4or 5 stars. Then I remembered a bad storm this area got hit with a few years ago. I was without power( it stayed out for a week) and had a pretty bad plumbing emergency. I came here to buy something that I hoped would be a temporary fix. While I was explaining my predicament an associate offered me the use of their phone. The call took longer than I thought and they were very understanding. This is the kind of customer service I've come to expect here. It amazes me that in such a small store you can find almost anything you need for your home repairs and maintenance. These folks are so nice! I'm in quarantine due to my daughter-in-law's impending birth and had tried to get my propane tank filled curb side. I called the big box places even after promising me they could take care of this when I got there they said I'd been given incorrect information. Immediately called Ace Hardware, they said no problem whatsoever. I pulled up had a replacement taking my truck in no time. Nick, who took care of me was so polite and helpful. I might mention that in the past I've also use them to repair screens, rewire lamps etc. every time it's been a pleasant experience. read more

The woman that checked me out today (as well as the man behind the counter) needs customer service training, desparately. They both should not be the face of any store. Here's what happened: The woman wanted me to use the stylus to sign my credit card order. I said that I was uncomfortable touching the stylus that everyone else touches due to COVID-19. She huffed, then scribbled her hand on the signature line. She then proceed to mumble under her breath. I asked her what the problem was, and she said "nothing". I said, there seems to be an issue with my request and reluctance to touch the stylus. The man behind the counter chimed in that she didn't say anything, and clearly sided with her. I told them I'd never return if you treat your customers so poorly, and he said "fine"! I try my best to support smaller business, and over the years we have given ACE in Hamilton NJ quite a lot of business. But, after today, I won't be spending my money there. read more

This is a great place to pick up any kind of hardware. I've been shopping there for a little over a year and there are always knowledgable, friendly people available to help me. Stopped in last night about 40 minutes before closing and in no time I had 3 people helping me out, including Greg, one of the owners - this was kind of the completely anti-Home Depot experience! I got a new chip car key made, 3 gallons of custom paint mixed, and a bundle of miscellaneous other items gathered up in something like 15 minutes. I find myself going here more and more. On the weekend when I am doing chores around the house and I need to visit a hardware store I have been changing my pattern from Home Depot to here. I find that they have what I need and I can get in and out of the place fast. The quality of the goods also seems to be a tad better then the Depot. This is our go-to hardware store, and not because it is closer to us than Lowe's & Home Depot, although that is helpful. The staff is very knowledgeable about their inventory and they give my husband good advice when he asks for it. We are almost always greeted upon arrival and there is always someone able to assist when we need it. I came in for a propane hose adapter. Greeted by 3 different customer service people. Thinking how friendly and helpful this ace hardware was. I ended up buying a hose assembly for $20 instead of the little hose connection that I really needed because the staff was so helpful. When I get to the cashier to pay my bill and hand her a coupon for $5.00 off. She looks at the coupon and says this is from out of state. We can't take this and calls a manager over to confirm that they wouldn't accept a ace hardware coupon from another state. Not happy with the managers and cashiers response I told the cashier that my $5.00 coupon is worth not satisfying a customer. I could see if I was trying to use a competitors coupon and they wouldn't honor it. After spending so much money on employees and in store help they should complete the service at the counter. A very unhappy customer and a bad buying experience. read more

I have been shopping at this Ace Hardware in Mercerville, for about ten years now. I even left another hardware store recently and went to this location just so I could have the confidence the keys made actually work. So here goes the negative side of this store. The manager of this place is quick with her mouth to tell you that she's doing you a favor, when the store policy is on the wall. I returned merchandise with a receipt that was never used. The purchase date was one year ago and I was told that she would do me a favor and give me a store credit but you are not allowed to return after 60 days. While waiting for my store credit I looked over at the store Policy and I states that A store credit will be given with or without a receipt after 60 days or more. I pointed this out to the clerk and he said well out of respect to the store I should have just kept it and not returned it. Even with a receipt he said I should have just eaten it! He also stated that no other store would have taken it back at all,Confidently saying" that's everybody's policy", so I said not at Home Depot. After this happened I called the main store in Yardville asking for a Manager or the CFO, and got the run-around then put into bookkeepers voicemail. I Left a message, but with the way the store treated me I don't think I'll hear back. Their employees should be told not to be cute with their customer and quote false company policies to customer. read more
