We stopped in at Ace to see if we could find a screw to replace the one that was missing. Not only did the young man helping us (Mike) find what we needed, he proceeded to get some tools and fixed the footplate for us! He must have spent at least a half hour working on it, but our charge was 37 cents. Amazing! I was incredibly touched by his kindness.

My last visit to Mrs. G's on Route 1, Lawrenceville, NJ before the one yesterday, was more than two…read moredecades ago when we modernized our kitchen. The place is in its third generation of family ownership, and has been seriously spruced up in the intervening years. Our 40 year old side by side refrigerator finally gave up the ghost last week (compressor) and it was time for a replacement, as parts for these old contraptions are hard to find. We decided to check out this old school appliance store before moving on to Best Buy or Costco. We wanted to talk to a knowledgeable salesperson before trying someone well versed in computers and TVs, but bored by household kitchen appliances. "Mike," was the right guy. He knew the skinny on kitchen tech, and was pleasant about educating us. Turned out the prices were identical to the other places, had real inventory and the ability to deliver, install and remove within days of purchase, rather than weeks. We opted for the Frigidaire Gallery model, which is basically still American made, and the right size to fit in our washroom next to our other appliances as our back up refrigerator, which the old one had become when we updated our kitchen 20 years ago. Mike took us through the process, had the piece in their warehouse, arranged for favorable financing (12 mo., no int.), with delivery in 2 days. True, there was a reasonable delivery charge, and cost for removing our old dinosaur, but they use their own people to install, not independent contractors. Overall, worth a bit more for the time and convenience, and having someone to call if something goes wrong. We were so pleased by the professional, yet human interaction, that we decided to also purchase a new stove hood exhaust stronger than the one that came with the our stove. It was never able to pull enough cooked air out of the kitchen to vent outside. This may be a continuing saga as the new equipment is delivered, installed and used in life. Let's hope for the best.

Purchased five stainless steel shower niches through Baths Etc. When the product arrived, we…read morediscovered that the company had altered the way in which the item was manufactured and they no longer fit in the application we needed them for (we bought the item based on a printed marketing brochure from the manufacturer and NOT after seeing a sample of the actual product). Bath's Etc. was VERY helpful, in particular Sally, their salesperson. They worked with us to reach the manufacturer (who refused -- as a matter of policy -- to accept a return on a product that was unopened and undamaged!) In the end, Baths Etc. refuned us the full cost of the items (five units totally nearly $2K). They did this even AFTER the manufacturer refused to accept the returned items. In the words of Mary Beth, the Showroom Manager, "Our first concern is helping our customers." Tthey were under no obligation to extend this courtesy -- and refund -- to us, but by doing so, they gained a loyal customer for life. We will happy make the hour long trip to Princeton Junction in the future for no other reason than to shop at a store that values our patronage!
