My husband and I had just returned from Paris, and we knew that we needed to find the nearest grocery store to stock up on water and snacks for the evening. We'd chosen to stay at the Holiday Inn on High Street in Brentford, so after inquiring at the front desk, we headed to the closest grocery, Costcutter. I picked up a samosa from their refrigerated section as well as two generously sized bottles of water for us to share. My husband found a small piece of chocolate cake and some crisps.
Costcutter also stocked a variety of other staple food items as well as liquor. As for the food itself--the cake was surprisingly tasty, the samosa satisfying (especially after the train and taxi rides), and the crisps good. It was interesting how everything from the snack foods to the sodas with real cane sugar to the restaurant fare truly tasted better in Europe. read more
