Absolutely fabulous and kind of charmingly madcap place. They stock caviar and fantastic (expensive) wine, have amazing cheeses, a good deli case with pies and macaroni/cheese made in-house, and have a huge and jaw-dropping selection of potted and tinned meats (wild boar in aspic, ginormous cans of duck confit, etc.) plus every sort of condiment you can think of - and fruits/vegs, and candy, and magazines, and souvenirs... Wildest of all is their American section! There's a large variety of American candies, boxed products like Kraft Mac 'n' Cheese and Pop Tarts, and way, way more. It must be seen to be believed. I meant to write this sooner, but life and times distracted me. But as I have time now...a couple of weeks ago, my husband and I were in the Chelsea Partridges. We were waiting by the cheese/deli counter where no one acknowledged us..when we saw an obvious chef/cook/ whatever stirring something and then actually licked the spoon of the whatever it was he was stirring. We left as were shocked and disgusted by this. It is really sad, as I always like to pop in and cruise through the American aisles and find goodies to buy. Never again. read more

If you're looking for high priced and imported goodies that just aren't available in your local Tesco Express or Sainsbury's Local, then Partridges is the place for you! Attention Americans! Are you feeling a little homesick? Would some stuff from "The Colonies" cheer you up? How about a box of Lucky Charms? Or Hershey's Chocolate Syrup? Maybe a box of Stove Top Stuffing will make you feel like you're back home? Because they have it all here, just like back at the Piggly Wiggly. Only five times the price. Maybe it's medicine? But not just canned and boxed groceries, they have a deli counter that is loaded with all sorts of yumminess that makes for a heck of picnic. But why picnic when they have tables just outside shaded from the sun. Coq au Vin, Steamed Asparagus, even a big tub of Taramasalata. Delicious, but very very expensive. With Thanksgiving upon us, I feel compelled to write an update about Partridges for all you Americans who are starting to panic as you realise there's no pumpkin puree at your local Tesco Express. Never fear my fellow ex-pats - Partridges has your Yankee back. Libby's, Bordens, Keebler Graham Cracker Crusts, Stovetop... you name it, Partridges has seen the niche and filled it with all the familiar name brand goods you'd see if you were at your hometown Wal-Mart *right now* shopping in preparation for the turkey feast. Now, expect to pay a *price* for these middle-brow luxuries, Kraft Americana in the UK doesn't come cheap... (£7.99 for a bag of Rieces Pieces? Does E.T. come with it?? £8 for a box Cheerios? Aren't heart patients usually bribed to consume that stuff?) But even though it's far from a bargain, and I personally aim to make everything from scratch (Martha Stewart wannabe? Um, didn't I already say "It's a good thing"?), I *am* thankful that I don't have to go through the arduous task of roasting a pumpkin myself... read more

If money were no object whatsoever I would wish always to stock my kitchen with goods from Partridges. I'm not talking white goods here, I'm talking edible goods, great food and greater drink. I do enjoy wandering around this type of ultra high end delicatessen, they always stock pastas with all the writing in Italian and yogurts with all the writing in French. It's refreshing to see different brands and especially little family brands getting a seat on the shelf. This Patridges has a massive counter area with prepared chilled foods and also the usual selection of charcuterie and cheeses, organic and free range always being available. On my last visit here I popped in for a paper and a bottle of water and it was probably the best example of each I have ever had. read more

A place where you can find good imported stuff, at not so good prices. But the store is nice with really good products, in the middle of Duke of York Square, right opposite the Saatchi Gallery, so you are paying for the location too. The smell in the shop is lovely, as it is their coffee, hot chocolate and sweet goodies to go with it. Have a sit outside and enjoy a bit of peace in a lovely setting. If you go on Saturdays morning, there is a farmer's market in the square that you can take advantage too ;) read more

Partridges is the store I go to when I need something American! The store is very posh and I love just walking around and perusing what is on the shelves. The American section has all the things an American girl needs when she's feeling a little homesick. You can buy Apple Jacks, which is a box of apple flavoured cereal for those who have not tried it. They have Oreo cookies, fruity pebbles, bread crumbs and even Kraft Mac-n-cheese, what can I say, I love this store. As Thanksgiving rapidly approaches, I popped in Saturday morning to pick up a few things for Thursday. I'm happy to say that I was not disappointed. I walked away with Pepperidge Farm stuffing mix, Carnation condensed milk, and pumpkin mix, the only mild disappointed was that my four items cost almost £20 when in the States I would have plunked down about $5. But I'm sure my ex-pat friends will appreciate my efforts and be reminded of home when they eat my pumpkin pie, turkey, and stuffing. read more

With thanksgiving coming up very shortly, I was in need of some fine 'Merican ingredients for my dinner party. There is so much here, don't be worried about not being able to find anything for thanksgiving, just come here. Also. If you have a serious weakness for Kraft Mac n Cheese, trust me, this is the place to go. You can find the normal box of Mac n cheese at most big Tescos, but this place has the deluxe boxes!!!!! (Anyone with a love for the artificial cheezy goodness like me knows exactly how crucial that last statement is)!!!!!! Yes it full of tourists and always crowded, but don't be put off by it, it's so worth it! Visit on a Saturday and you'll find some of the London's and, therefore, the world's finest food from Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee and sugar cane juice to cured meats and gourmet popcorn. I often head down to Partridges for their extensive selection of imported foods. In particular they have several aisles of American food that can quench any expat craving. Prices are rather high, but when you're in the mood for Jiffy corn muffins, you don't have many options in London. For Thanksgiving they even have a special section with everything from tinned pumpkin and condensed milk, to stove top stuffings and jet-puffed marshmallows. My only complaint is they focus on the very sugary and mass produced brands---Betty Crocker, Aunt Jemima, Nestle Tollhouse, Crisco, Pam Cooking Spray...who really craves Crisco or Pam!?! Nevertheless, do not fear; they also have imports from Italy, South Africa, Australia, etc. as it's truly a global offering. In short, Partridges is a great higher end market (similar to the food hall at Selfridges), and worth a visit if you're looking to satisfy your expat cooking and specific confectionery needs or want some top of the line produce and deli items. And as a major plus, unlike most other grocers, Partridges is open late...every day, including Sundays! That alone is worth 4 stars. read more

Too expensive. Was turned off during the holidays, when looking for a gingerbread house making kit. Found them here at Partridges and ended up paying almost $100 for 2! Insane and killed the mood. They weren't even normal sized, as a matter of fact, they were even smaller than the normal ones I'm used to. I made that Kings Road Partridges Gingerbread house last until New Years, trust me. Every bite wasn't worth it, and costs a couple pounds. Yes, they have a nice selection of foods, but suck it up, and go across the street to Waitrose. Well, yes, this is a posh food shop. A food hall, an epicurean market one could say. It has turned up on Nigella Lawson's TV shows as she goes to shop at her 'local' just pick up a few things. And while it is an upmarket local Chelsea grocer, it is welcoming and gives off the feel of a village shop. There are delicious prepared foods, a solid selection of world wines, and a very respectable cheese counter. Yet it is not too posh that it doesn't stock the basics like milk and butter though you will be able to find a nice French butter next to the local. Saturdays Partridges sponsors a Saturday market on the Duke of York Square which has selections of world foods, cheese mongers, bakers and seafood. Family friendly and a great way to spend a Saturday morning or afternoon. Whether you are picking up a pint of milk or a pint of foreign beer, you'll find it at this cozy store. read more

Partridges always holds a place in my heart, and this one is the larger version of the Gloucester Rd one, which means much more selection of American goods, a larger wine and spirits corner, twice the market takeout and specialty items. They always seem to have someone handing out samples in the entry and they get into it, it's not just a stray worker in a Partridges shirt, there was a guy in full Asian dress today handing out liquor samples (apparently Asian liquor). On the weekends, they do a food market outside (amazing) so if you've just come from Saatchi, you can pop over and grab a great lunch and eat in the square, then head over to the Valerie gelato stand for dessert. mmmm.... read more

Partridges is a posh grocery store/delicatessen in Chelsea near Sloane Square. The food selection is almost regal. Everything, even the marshmallows are of the highest quality. The best part about the place is their international (mainly American) food stock. This is homesick comfort food heaven for any American. Cap'N Crunch, Butterfinger, Aunt Jemima maple syrup, Bisquik, Fiji water; it's like teleporting to a kitchen in the U.S. The deli meat is divine. Never did a slab of raw meat look so appealing. The salami, the sausages, the turkey, all of it smelled so fragrant. I could have easily gone savage and just devoured everything I saw whole. No chewing necessary. Unfortunately, the prices are just as regal as the food. A small bottle of water costs £3 and a slab of that oh so delicious looking deli meat might cost you a fiver minimum. If it's the queen's birthday and you're all about having a royal dinner and you have the money to spend then this is the place for you. If your wallet is looking more like a pauper's, then I would steer clear from here. read more

Partridges is quite a delightful supermarket in the already fun neighborhood of Sloane Square! They have an assortment of meats, cheeses, breads, random canned foods, sweets and chocolates, breakfast foods, drinks, hygienic goods, and wines. It is not overly expensive either and I really enjoyed the little restaurant they have inside where you can grab a coffee while you wait for their delicious croissants to finish baking. They have a limited selection of vegetables though. The staff are helpful and have a smile on their face. Partridges offers old fashioned service with a wonderful selection of foods from hot roasted potatoes through to Chelsea Flower chocolates - as for their Christmas offerings - very traditional and worth the expense. This shop far outshines Fortnums ( very touristy these days) and we always spend a decent sum of money when visiting this store. The staff have a great customer ethos. I defy you not to dribble onto your shoes after five minutes wandering round Partridges grocery store - the smell of fresh bread and cakes and roasted coffee beans, the displays of edible delights, exotic chocolates, crumbly meat pastry pies, all of it pumping your hunger juices to irresistibly dangerous levels. Even chewing on cotton wool balls to dampen down the cravings, this is definitely not the place to go if you haven't eaten for two weeks or especially if you're an abstaining monk - YOU WILL NOT MAKE IT! Newsagent / deli / confectioner / butcher / baker / candlestick maker (maybe soon) / cafe - what don't they sell? And how do they get it all in such a relatively small space? One thing though, if you really are an impoverished monk, you'll probably not be able to afford the prices here, eye wateringly high as they are - so maybe there will be salvation with the salivation. Seven quid for a box of Lucky Charms?? To be fair to Partridges, Lucky Charms are much pricier in Blackheath (I've heard rumours of £11 a box...) so let's not judge Partridges on that alone. Sunday afternoons in Autumn are - in my opinion - made for cakes and hot chocolate, and Partridges in Sloane Square offers both of these yummy things in its little cafe at the back of the shop. They take your order at your table, but the best bit is going up to the cake counter to make your selection from the dozens of delicacies on offer. My Victoria sponge was tasty, but possibly not worth the pricetag. Hot chocolates were good, but not the best (and why do places never make hot chocolates hot enough?). Anyway, a nice little spot, and we had lots of fun browsing the posh brands and American imported foodstuffs afterwards. read more

This tiny grocery was close to where I was staying and I could hit it on the way home from where ever I had been wandering that day. It is on the pricey side and crowded but had some great deli meats and cheeses. I passed on the El Fenix products (I'm cringing) and the American cereals. Why? Why come to the UK and then eat El Fenix crap? I guess if I lived in London full time and was jonesing for fake mexican food or Applejacks I might ,but otherwise?? A nice place which sells high quality food and produce ( a lot of it is Italian). However quality varies according to what you buy and it's expensive. It's right across the Saatchi Gallery and offers great snacking and meal options to fill your tummy and enjoy the exhibition nearby. The chocolate cannoli I got were Sicilian big and authentic but sadly, not fresh. The salad of the day which consisted of quinoa, millet, parsley and fresh veggies was awesome, my boyfriend got chicken basque but wasn't impressed. All the cooked food is take away only. read more

Husband's continental fine, nice croissant and good orange juice but service sucked...my fruit salad took more than a half hour, way after we'd finished breakfast (and 2 requests) and was pretty but almost entirely bananas and apples. Today I discovered that on Saturday's Partridges does an outdoor food market in Duke of York Square. It is quite simply a foodie mecca! I was practically squealing with delight at all the smells and gorgeous looking foods. I got some take away for the Moroccan food vendor and it was so good that I opened it up on the train home, knowing full well the pungent smell would irritate the entire carriage but it was totally worth it. I also picked up some lovely Ethiopian coffee- I was informed the beans were roasted Thursday and ground there before me. Additionally there were other ethnic food vendors, Pie Minister, cakes, giant cookies, honey, cheese, meats.... my version of heaven. read more

Plus, they must get things stolen all the time because they have security guard watching you with a creepy eye that makes me feel guilty just for being there!!!! I come to this store primarily to buy American food items that I can't find anywhere else in London. They have almost everything you'd need to make Thanksgiving dinner, but you do pay a premium. £8 for a bottle of Aunt Jemima is steep, but when you're craving American style pankcakes with maple syrup, you'll happily pay the price. I visited this store 2 November 2011. I'm very keen on their soups and other food stuffs. I wandered round the store and placed some soup in my bag and I then proceeded to the till and paid for the items. Before I left I was approached and told in an aggressive tone and in front of other shoppers that next time I should use a basket. I asked this "lady" who she was, as there was nothing to identify here as staff. She refused to tell me who she was and I asked for the manager. Initially another member of staff approached and began to ask what had happened. Again the mystery lady appeared and began speaking to the second member of staff in Spanish. I asked that they speak in English, as the conversation was clearly about the incident. I was then told by the lady that "why should I speak in English, because you are English". After complaining to the assistant store manager I called the Partridges head office and spoke with Ian Willard, a Director of the business. He promised to look into the matter and contact me that evening or the day after. Today is 8th of November and I had not received a call from Mr Willard. I called Mr Willard and he explained he was story that he did not call. He also apologised for his member of staff, but failed to tell me what plans they would put in place to prevent such an incident occurring again. I feel the customer service from this store and the senior management has been less than you should expect from any store, let alone one with a Royal Warrant. I for one will not be returning! read more

I always buy tea at Partridges. Their own brand range of teas is fantastic - tea bags are individually wrapped which keeps them fresh, and the teas are very reasonable (as cheap as Twinings and MUCH better). Highly recommend. read more
