I normally do not rate a restaurant terribly. But I placed my to-go order at 4 PM today not picking up until 6:15 tonight. It was just a kabob order for two, obviously my order wasn't important enough because I pulled up a little after 6:15 and it wasn't ready. The waitress said it would be another 15 minutes.... I wait as I watch other orders frequently get picked up. 14 minutes later I circle the drive thru and wait 5 more minutes as they check for my order, then I'm instructed that the manager said it would be 10 more minutes. I promptly canceled my order stating I ordered this around 4 today. This is a bummer I was treated this way. read more

the only thing that was wrong, was the waitress poured our entire bottle of white wine, on the first round. leaving an inch to stay cold. NOTE: waitress? only fill the glass a bit, allowing the customers to dictate how fast they're drinking... other than that? WOW, loved the calamari, it was far more food than we thought was coming. and between three of us! YUMMY, then the bread with olive oil and spices? yummy! Pasticho... wow, I want to try and make this one at home. besamel sauce with noodles and meat, with a egg crust on top, and cheeses? to die for. the veal parmigiano? to die for. the greek shrimp? scrumptious... of course we had to get a geaux box, cause we pigged on the calamari. seriously huge portions of food, and all of it wonderful. the waitress was super sweet, just a little uneducated about how to serve wine... this will be a stop each time we visit... see y'all in a month. read more

I'm a huge fan of their Eggplant Parmasian and Beef/Chicken Slovakia. Their bread and ranch dressing is amazing. A good thing about this place is that their portions are HUGE, you won't leave hungry (and will still have leftovers for the next day). read more

So the food is good and i would give the food a 4/5 stars. Service is extremely mediocre though, which is the reason for the 2/5 star rating! I usually order the Chicken Parmiagiana meal for a family of 4. It's a lot of food and it's very good! I usually call ahead and pick it up at the drive-thru window that's basically only used for Call Ahead Take Out! Here's where the service comes into question: 1. The phone line is often busy for 30 mins at a time, which seems as if they keep the phone off the hook because they can't handle the call flow to take out order ratio (?) 2. When they do finally answer the phone, they pick up the phone after a few rings and rudely say "hold please", but this hold time often can take up to 10 mins. 3. The people are not very friendly. Everything perfect! Wow! The server was well trained and efficient...everything came out of the kitchen in a timely way. Steak cooked perfectly...they left the Greek seasonings off as I requested. Salad was fresh cut, dressing homemade and delicious. It was a delightful evening meal. read more

I finally gave Costa a try, my Co worker loves this place.. I ordered the veal and surprised him with ziti.OMG it was so good the potions where big the bread and salad was excellent homemade ranch I called in my order so I can't judge dine in experience yet, but I will be back for that. - service is quick at the table - atmosphere is drained of youth - glasses get filled full - plates are a little over stuffed - bread is delicious - manicotti is great even though there are rumors of heated meals I was the only one with paper napkins in the whole restaurant. This is the worst restaurant in Birmingham. Do yourselves a favor and stay away from this place. The servers are rude, the manager is a complete idiot, and the portions are a joke. My boyfriend and I ordered the lasagna for two and it came out in a saucer plate... Literally done in a few bites... And it tasted like crap too. Costa's is a long standing favorite in Hoover. Their menu features as great combination of Italian and Greek entrees, steaks and seafood. Their fresh baked bread and homemade salad dressings set the tone for a wonderful dinner. The quality of the food is consistently good. The only negative is that the restaurant is overdue for a makeover. read more

This review is for the take-out service, as I have never had dine-in meal here. I have routinely used Costas for the Family Take-out specials many times. Price is very affordable. A Family of 4 serving can easily feed 4 people and still have leftovers. This is my first pick place for carry out when I need to take a meal to a friend or church member. The employees here are always very friendly and offer fast, accurate service. Food tastes great. Have ordered several different varieties and all have been delicious. I would dine-in too if I lived closer. I mostly get take-out order after work and head on to my destination to meet a larger group of people. A friend recommended this place to me years ago and I'm glad they did. I have had great experience for many years. read more

I don't understand some of the bad press about this place on here. I will admit that their organization system is flawed, but their food picks up the slack from there. I've had different Italian meals each time I have come and never left disappointed. Their pasta and sauce tastes homemade and it's always served in generous portions. Plus, it's hard to argue against big loafs of bread that can be dipped in oil and Greek seasonings as well as their homemade Greek dressing. This is a great place for dinner, just plan your arrival wisely. read more

I love the food at Costa's. So much so that I overlook the terrible service. I have never ordered anything but the Moussaka but it is to die for. I went to Costa's today, Valentine's Day. The restaurant was mostly empty. Maybe four or five parties of two. Our server was unbelievably rude. She mixed up our drink order and called me "sir," which I clearly am not, within the first five minutes of being there. Knowing that the service is like it is I would still come back because the Moussaka is just that good. Portions are huge. The prices are great and the location is convenient. The decor is hideous. Try and avoid looking at the ceiling. It will gross you out. The carpet is pretty awful, too. The vinyl on the booths is torn and looks tacky. I'd really love to see what Robert Irvine's crew could do with this place. The food definitely doesn't need to be changed, though. read more

Based on my small sample of Al's, the Purple Onion, Nabeel's, Pita Stop, and a couple of other places, Costa's gyro is the best in town by far. They seem to be the only ones that actually use the thicker pita bread which definitely makes the wrap stand out. It also seems like some of those places are using the pre-sliced frozen lamb, rather than carving off the spit and grilling to crisp the meat. read more

I love their lasagna, it is just delicious. I call ahead and order it when I have guests and pick up at their drive through window. It is a large portion that comes with a large fresh salad and bread. They have wonderful lemon chicken soup that I think cured a cold for me once. It is the best soup ever. We have this catered to our office for lunch often. Both the chicken and beef kabobs are good but a little greasy for my taste. Their salad is always fresh and if you want to splurge on the calories, their lasagna and also the fettucini alfredo are really delicious choices. read more

They add a tip on take out orders behind your back. That's actually fraud. I tried to call to solve the problem, I was waiting on the phone for the manager, manager never came and they hung up on me. I had to call again and threatened to file a police report so they could get someone on the phone. Manager said it was a "human error", played the victim game, he said he doesn't need $6.5 and he was going to throw at my face. Now, Imagine if he does this to every customer just to check who is going to complain the charge in their credit card? Good luck if you want to take out! Plus their food suck. read more

Went for dinner with friends. The place was packed. It took our server a while to greet the table. Mediocre service overall. The food was good. Parmesan chicken was really good. I have eaten at this restaurant for many years, taking friends and family. They have catered many dinners at my place of employment. I have always enjoy the fish. Today, I got take out of grouper. The grouper had a strange smell and taste. There was definitely something wrong with it. This had never happened so I called and was told to bring it back in and they would replace it. That was not an option for me to drive all the way back to the restaurant. After talking to the manager he thanked me for letting him know. That was it. Period.
