It started good. We were customers of this restaurant for years. We were a party of three, two adults and one young adult. We were sitted quickly, within 10 minutes of arrival. The waitress took about 15 minutes to get to our table. We ordered a grilled octopus as an appetizer and our three main courses. The octopus was hard and could not be chewed. We called the waitress to remove the plate and explained that it was not properly cooked. The waitress took the plate back and after a few minutes came back to tell us that he tasted the octopus we returned and that it was his opinion that it tasted good and for that reason he would not remove the appetizer from our bill. We then asked for the manager to clear this up. The owner took over 10 minutes to get to our table. By the time he arrived to our table, one of the main courses had arrived. We asked the waitress to take it back until we talked to the manager. When he arrived we explained what had happened and told him that the approach of the waitress was not the best. He stated that we were not going to be charged for the appetizzer but that we were making him damage by returning the plates instead of taking them to go and not eating on the restaurant. Then he proceeded to call the waitress to our table to repremend him in front of us and everyone else. We asked him not to do this in front of us, that it was in bad taste to correct someone in public. We asked for the check so we could leave and eat somewhere else. The owner then asked us to leave the restaurant and another employee threatened us with calling security. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant because of the owners lack of manners which I can only assume resonates on the staff. read more

Come eat here. Today! I rarely give 5 stars because I'm not easily impressed. It's either the food, the service, cleanliness, something. Yes. I can be picky. But this place deserves 5 stars. Great job! The service was amazing. Hector was awesome and pretty much everyone that walked by and wished is a good meal. It's so clean. It's so inviting. Visited with my family on a Sunday, the place was half full, I was greeted immediately and seated. We had two stuffed mofongos, one with chicken and the other one with steak and a breaded chicken breast with rice and beans. Food came out very fast, everything was delicious, we were all happy with our choices and really enjoyed lunch. This was not our first visit to Costa Azul. I'm fact during the pandemic we used their pick up service a lot. We are long time customers since they were in their first location (this is the third one as far as I know). However lately the service is not the best during their pick hours. On a Friday, 8:30 pm, we were walked to a table by a hostess that simply left the silverware in the center of the table and walk away. Waited for over 15 minutes and although more than 10/12 waiters/waitresses walked by us, no one came to serve our table. Some staff that appear to be senior staff were talking inside the cava and walked by us as well with the same result: nothing. After that we got up and started to walk away while one of their waitresses, standing by our table, simply said "-are you leaving because we did not wait at you?" We responded "no, no body came" . She had no reaction! Simply looked the other way. Not sure if there is an internal problem among the staff that is triggering this attitude. Their food is good for the most part (sometimes is a hit or Miss), but with this service, at some point the clientele will start to fade away. The food was very good, tasty, and warm. I had the fried chillo with mofongo, and a side of caldo de pollo. My favorite was the caldo de pollo!! The staff was attentive and friendly. Overall, I highly recommend this place. read more

Driving up to the location in Manatí showed how secluded of an establishment this is. Parking is bountiful with a fenced in lot, ambiance inside the restaurant is quaint and sectioned. We sat by the bar, high top table and we placed our drink orders in the middle of a rush so service dragged a bit. Got our drinks; cocktails and juices and soon thereafter placed our food order. Again waited a bit for our food to arrive due to the rush (Wednesday night and the place is packed) but once it arrived.. oh my god. PHENOMENAL. I was absolutely dumbfounded by the amount of foot that got put into that food, and that's a good thing! Habichuelas perfection, carne frita perfection, arroz perfection, literally everything got put out and was the tastiest thing I have eaten in a long time. Being a chef in NYC I've come across a lot of chefs that try to push the 'home cooked' vibe and this place actually did it and at a mass scale. Didn't even take pictures I'm so upset about that but trust me, GO. Oh and the flan de queso actually tasted like cheese which is a 100/10 for me. I went here back in March on spring break with my girlfriend. The food was OK and the portions were good, but our waitress was terrible. She was very unfriendly, possibly because the restaurant was totally empty aside from us, and we were the reason she had to work instead of hanging out with the other 3 employees in the front who didn't have any work to do (at 8PM on a Wednesday night). For example she gave us a hard time for not ordering drinks with our meals and tried to pressure us into drinking when we never drink. My Spanish isn't very good (which may have been another reason for her unfriendliness), and so I spoke English. The worst part of the meal was that afterwards she held the pen and wrote her own tip, and (I'm 90% sure) pretended not to understand the smaller amount I wanted to give her due to bad service. I should have confronted her but I did not. Especially if you are not good at Spanish and don't want to drink, avoid this place! The other employees seemed generally friendly, but if you get the wrong waitress they may treat you like dirt. read more
