I went in for a quick trim after work on Thursday. I was really just expecting to have the dead ends clipped so that I coughs get my fingers through my hair again. I'm a Mama of two little ones, so naturally I'm not always my highest priority. The hair dresser Nicole who handled my cut was refreshing. Totally authentic! I kind of dread small talk, which is anther reason that I delay hair cuts :/ That was not her at all! Super down to earth, nice, in a very real way. I felt like she was really making an effort to understand what I was asking for, even though I probably want explaining it well. That is huge! If you all remember, it's was negative 3, with the wind chill on Thursday. Nicole gave my hair a quick dry so that I wouldn't be leaving with wet hair, which was super sweet. All in all, I left feeling good about the experience. But.... the magic happened on Saturday when I finally had the chance to wash and style my hair. I abso-freakin-lutely LOVE it. She nailed it. I will NEVER go to COST CUTTERS ever again! I made a call ahead call at 2pm and was told figure about 20 minutes. I was there in 15 and WAITED AND WAITED AND WAITED.......at an HOUR AND A HALF I LEFT after being told there were still 3 guys ahead of me. I got home at 4pm and am going back to Drs Hair next week. I made an appointment with Lexie for a partial highlight and trim. The service was great, I did make an appointment a week beforehand because they normally are busy. I was taken right away with no issues. I walked in not sure on what I wanted to do with my hair and left feeling great. Lexie did an amazing job, I would recommend her to anybody. This was my second time this year coming to Torrington Cost Cutters (before January of this year, I hadn't been here in ten years; my mom and I used to come here together and I hadn't been back since she passed away). When my regular hairstlist's hours were becoming more challenging (they were very short staffed), I finally had to find someplace else, so figured I'd revisit Torrington Cost Cutters. This is the second time I come here, the first time it was for my son and he loved his hair cut. They gave him what he wanted and wash his hair without me even asking, he loved that part the most lol. Today I went again because my sister wanted a haircut and she loved it. It's her first time getting a haircut in Connecticut and she already said that once her hair grows back she is coming here again. We didn't really have to wait that long because we called to make an appointment and the wait once we got there wasn't bad at all. Hi everyone. I just goy my haircut today form Cost Cutters in Torrington CT. I don't like to make it about race but this morning it was obvious. Walking in I was the only person of color in the lobby. The staff said hello to everyone that came after me but I didn't get any greetings. I let my hair grow out for 3-4 weeks and so it wasn't short. I sat down and 10 minutes later the haircut was finished. I will point out that I noticed someone come after me with shorter hair 5-6 minutes into my session and that persons hair dresser was still taking their time making sure the edges were straight nice and clean cut after I was done. Me on the other hand no luck, my hair dresser did not take the time to square me up in the front or the sides. It was the quickest haircut I have ever received. I have been searching for place to cut my hair on a regular basis and as of yet I haven't found anything solid. I'll keep looking. I will note that even tho it was a poor experience I did tip the employee 8 dollars on the top of the regular price. I did this because maybe they can reflect on how they treat non regular customers. Or it won't and I gave them a tip they did not deserve. She was very shocked that I even tipped her she knew she didn't deserve it. Brings me no pleasure writing this review but just getting the word out to all the non majority thinking about visiting this place. Thanks! read more

I took my daughter (age 11) for a haircut before the school year began and when the cut was finished my daughter wanted to see if it was what she wanted before leaving the salon so I asked the hairdresser to dry her hair a bit first and she did. The cost of a child's cut is $15.95 and according to the price board a Blow Dry is $6 so I was blown away when the final charge was $44!!! I told her she made a mistake and she simply said "Don't blame me I just work here." She then went and checked with someone and came back to say the price stands at $43. I have never felt so ripped off in my life. $25 to partially blow dry a child's hair (not even shoulder length).?? I will never enter that Cost Cutters again and would never recommend them to anyone. read more

My husband Shane had his haircut last week by Maria. It is an extremely handsome cut. And that's saying a lot, he usually goes to a place called Soho in New Haven, Where they charge $90 for a cut. We were very, very surprised at the expertise Maria showed. We will be both be going to see her. Also, she was extremely accommodating in fitting him in on such short notice. Great job! read more

This place has gotten worse and worse over the years. Now, when I call ahead I'm treated like a bothersome pain and hung up on just after I give my information before I can even ask "how long". I walk in and none of the employees even look at me or acknowledge me. After my name is called I get rushed jobbed and after a whole 12 minute haircut I still gave a $3 tip. It's hit or miss, and that's reason enough not to go back. After my last experience there, I certainly won't be returning. I was seated after only 30 minutes when I was told it would be an hour, which is nice, but that's because of attrition of other people waiting. My stylist was maybe too chatty, but that's to be expected. What I couldn't put up with was: * She had to get up FIVE times to answer the phone during my cut. Not her fault the place is run that way, but it's a mark against going back there. * She left me one time for about three minutes to consult with another customer who had brought her teenage daughter in and wanted advice on how to dye her daughter's hair. WTAF? * I didn't have my glasses on to check my hair out but when I got home realized there were sections of the back of my hair she didn't even cut!! She was probably too distracted by leaving my chair six times and talking about the vacation she was planning to pay attention to my hair. That said, I've also had a couple good experiences. But I don't even want to RISK having another experience like that one again. read more

Stopped by this location on a whim because I felt like I needed a hair change. Walked in and was pleasantly greeted and they asked if I had called, apparently 5 people had called within the last few minutes to come in for service. Waited about 10 minutes. Amanda was my stylist. She was very personable and outgoing. She listened to what I was looking for and gave me suggestions. At the end I was very happy with the end results. I would def return to this location. She asked if I wanted to sign up for their texting promo service in which I saved $3 on the spot for signing up which was nice. Had a nice hair cutting experience for under $20. read more

Ask for Chelsea. There is one other girl that works right next to Chelsea and dyes her hair crazy colors that is good too. Julie works on Friday and Sunday and I have never had bad luck with her either. Other than those three, it's really hit or miss. read more

After having shoulder surgery I Went there yesterday for a shampoo and blow dry. The girl who worked on me never introduced herself. Washed my hair and started blow drying without running a comb thru it first. Never even looked for where my part was. She seemed very unfamiliar with how to use a brush and blow dryer at the same time. She was so busy chit chatting with her coworkers that she even shut the blow dryer off to finish her conversation. My hair was not completely dry, it wasn't styled at all and left to frizz up. I had to get a girlfriend to come to flat iron the frizz, which shouldn't have been needed if the blow dry was professionally done. This girl certainly didn't take pride in her work. iI went for a haircut Mon.March 11 the wait was about an hour. the person who cut my hair was very nice, but i got the worst haircut. my hair is very short and the girl could not taper my hair. my hair was a mess. I asked thr girl to cut it shorter to try to fix it and she was having a problem getting it right. so i went to another barber and had them fix it the next day.
