I made an appointment with Lexie for a partial highlight and trim. The service was great, I did make an appointment a week beforehand because they normally are busy. I was taken right away with no issues. I walked in not sure on what I wanted to do with my hair and left feeling great. Lexie did an amazing job, I would recommend her to anybody. If you're looking for a refresh on your blonde I would definitely say make an appointment and try them out.

This was my second time this year coming to Torrington Cost Cutters (before January of this year, I hadn't been here in ten years; my mom and I used to come here together and I hadn't been back since she passed away). When my regular hairstlist's hours were becoming more challenging (they were very short staffed), I finally had to find someplace else, so figured I'd revisit Torrington Cost Cutters. It is wonderful! Clean, fresh, large, with plenty of stylists on hand. Tahnee (Tawny? sorry if I'm spelling your name wrong!) is so attentive and helpful, and she did the most amazing job on my hair. What a great way to begin Spring!

Side view from my sisters hair, she loves the way it came out.

This is the second time I come here, the first time it was for my son and he loved his hair cut. They gave him what he wanted and wash his hair without me even asking, he loved that part the most lol. Today I went again because my sister wanted a haircut and she loved it. It's her first time getting a haircut in Connecticut and she already said that once her hair grows back she is coming here again. We didn't really have to wait that long because we called to make an appointment and the wait once we got there wasn't bad at all. Wonderful place to get your hair cut, nice and clean and the staff is super sweet.

I had made an appointment, waited in the salon for over 1/2 hour. They forgot about me.

There is a comfortable waiting space where you can even have a cup of coffee and a biscotti. Oh yes, and you get a great, personally designed hair cut. I have been using the salon for years and I am moved to write this review now because I had one more wonderful experience with my last cut. Living in two states, CT and PA., I try to time my cuts to be in CT so I can go to HBD. Last month I had a terrible, awful hair cut in Philadelphia. Six weeks later, I arrived at HBD and could see, "What happened to you?" in Casey's eyes. And then, snip, snip, snip, she fixed it. I felt like myself again. A bad hair cut makes you feel lousy BUT a great hair cut makes you feel great. Thank You Casey! Fern Fisher

When I called I said I was a new client and needed a "really good" haircut with lots of layering, bangs, I have thick hair, the whole works. The original date I asked for was full and a different date was offered, I said yes, excited because I've wanted to try out this salon for a long time based on reviews/photos. When I went in, it was quiet - just 1 other person getting their hair done. After being seated my stylist suddenly seemed flustered by the time (we had a little over an hour before the place closed, which I hadn't realized before) and said she couldn't style my hair. To her credit she asked if I wanted a shampoo but I felt rushed and said we could skip it. I explained what I really wanted (a short wolf cut) but my only reservation was it was before a wedding, and she agreed it could look awkward. In truth I brought it up to gauge her reaction because I didn't want someone who wasn't enthused about it to make such a drastic change to my hair. No problem, had a safer backup ready to go, still with lots of edgy layers and the V-cut I love. Talked it out and showed a reference pic from all angles of this haircut. What I received was nothing close. My hair was cut bluntly straight across, my layers almost blend into the longest ends of my hair, and my face framing pieces are completely uneven. She did a good job on my bangs, though at the time, they were flying straight off my face. I'm talking almost 90 degrees. I was trying not to panic and reassure her at the same time so she didn't feel bad that I looked ridiculous, saying my hair just needed to figure it out and would settle. I walked out of the salon with one hand literally covering my forehead holding down my bangs trying not to cry and thankfully had a beanie in the car to throw over my head. I've gotten bad cuts before but never walked out looking wild like that. I will say - that experience has opened me up to try cutting my own hair at home, so I bought some shears and am looking forward to experimenting.

Her father happens to be a hairdresser however he was out of the country and unable to fix her hair. I was panicked. I called upon my girl Amanda at Temple Soulon to save the day and save it she did! What transpired was nothing short of a miracle and maybe a little bit of sorcery and touch of magic. Not only was she able to fix my daughter's self-inflicted botched bangs (she blended the bangs and gave her a FABULOUS cut). She actually restored her hair to a gorgeous rich chestnut, very close to her natural color. NOT A TRACE OF MAGENTA WAS LEFT. Not a BIT!! When I saw the big reveal I was in tears: of joy, disbelief, gratitude, amazement. Not only did she restore my daughter's hair, she restored her confidence. Amanda is VERY particular about the products she uses on her clients - nothing toxic. I purchased some amazing at home care products from her to help keep my daughter's hair looking fabulous. And it still looks amazing one month later! I will be forever grateful to her for taking her time and bringing her expertise to a dire situation. Amanda has a way of connecting with people that goes beyond just "doing hair". She is a true artist and all around amazing soul!

I called the…read moretoll free number on a Monday at around 4 p.m. and it was recommended I call back after 5:30 when the school was open. I called close to 6 and received a voice message. I left a message that I was interested in a mani/pedi for Wednesday. When I didn't receive a call back, I called again on Tuesday afternoon. An appointment was made for the next day at 11. I specifically asked where parking was, and she said to the left of the building as you're facing it. Wrong. It's not there, it's to the right. I was greeted pleasantly by the receptionist upon arrival and asked to sign a 'sign in sheet', which was nothing more than a blank piece of paper. My technician was Rebecca, and while she was very sweet, I'm afraid she has a very long way to go before she will be ready to work on full paying customers. When I called I asked for a basic mani and deluxe pedicure, since it had been a while since receiving the later, however, they had me down for only a basic pedicure. When I asked what the difference was, Rebecca explained it's just going up to the knee. I assumed that meant with lotion, but since none was used whatsoever I'm not sure what that meant. The manicure was really nothing more than a polish change, and it took over an hour. The first thing she said was 'well, you don't have polish on', but I did. True, it was a light pink, but it should have been obvious. Typically, it takes 20-30 minutes for me to get a manicure, as my nails are in pretty good shape and don't require much work, but it took more than 15 minutes just to get the polish off. An hour later she was still working on putting the polish on. It needs to be noted that there was no cutting of my nails or cuticles in any way, so other than the removal of polish, pushing back cuticles and polish, that was it. She didn't even clean my hands before polishing, and they were still greasy from the soaking. The pedicure, which is what I was most looking forward to, was even worse. She brought over a small tub of water and told me to put my feet in it, but my pants were not rolled up. Maybe she thought I should do it myself with damp nails? By now, I figured out that the pedicure would not be what I had been hoping for, but it was even worse than my lowered expectations. The real disappointment was when she took a callous remover and barely touched my foot with it. And yes, that's singular. She only used it on one foot. At this point I didn't even care and just wanted out. Really, I could have done it myself and saved the 2.5 hours. After she was finished she gave me a sheet of paper with some stars on it and asked me to rate her. Really??? If you want an HONEST assessment of your abilities and services, you do not ask people to do it when you're present. She brought me to the front desk and said an instructor would check her work, which never happened. All the 'instructor' did was take my money, which, btw, was an overcharge by $1 for the manicure. The website says $6 but I was charged $7. When I showed her the website, she said she would give me back the dollar on my next visit. Ugh...no. Bottom line: if you're looking for a polish change that is going to take forever, then by all means go here. If you're interested in professionalism, look elsewhere. I know I will.

I love that they update the salon throughout the year to have festive pops, have refreshments to offer, and all the staff is really friendly and welcoming. But on to the reason I need to rave about Foil: I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Molly saved my hair and I'd follow her to any salon. Literally...I currently live in Naugatuck and I drive to Foil to have Molly do my hair... A girls hair is one of the most important things to her - it's like our identity - so trusting someone to color, cut, trim, or style it is a BIG deal. My hair used to be past my butt, and when I first started going to Molly, we talked about doing a big chop. When I worked up the courage, I asked her to do it and I left the salon with an amazing angled longer bob. She's also done front bangs for me and we've experimented with a few different techniques - I really do trust Molly with my life, and I'm looking forward to doing another big chop soon! My old salon (before I reached out to Molly) really put so much crap in my hair - I literally came to Molly with like 5 different shades of I don't even know what - and now, my hair looks so natural and pretty. I'm continuously getting compliments after I see her and my hair always grows out to look MORE natural and pretty. Molly is always very sweet and does such an amazing job - I've literally shown her completely opposite pictures of balayage or highlights and she ALWAYS manages to work her magic and create exactly what I wanted (even when I don't know what the heck that is). I highly recommend going to see her if you can - or any of the girls here really. I can't wait to bring my daughter for her first big hair cut!
