I have wavy hair with an attitude: Hairs gone wild. It's taken me years to find someone who can cut my badly behaving curls. I saw a lot of great hair stylists but never had a hair shape that worked for me. Then I found Ericka at Cost Cutters. I went to her when I saw what she did for a friend of mine. I just can't recommend this particular Cost Cutters enough. Ericka is such a treasure as is Ryan and the owners are also lovely. Go here, get your really special cut. You'll be so glad that you did. This place is a joke. They are never open. After their COVID restrictions were lifted, they are still closed on Sundays and Mondays. Ok, so I call them today, Saturday 10/24. I get their voicemail that says they are closed starting on 10/27. Ok, well it didn't say they were closed today. I know they are already closed tomorrow and Monday so I make a special trip to SLO to finally get my hair cut after all this time and, THEY ARE CLOSED! The sign says they are open 10-6 on Saturdays and they will be closed starting 10/27. I give up! Don't these guys want the business after being closed so long for COVID. We all need haircuts. We've been coming here for a few years and its my daughter's favorite place to get her haircut. The owner is super nice. However, today the employee running the store and her customer service were awful. First... she comes to the counter "what do you want?!" I tell her my daughter wants a shampoo and trim. "Well have you been here before?!" she ROLLS HER EYES "you need to come up here!." I was sitting in a chair closest to the counter as when I walked in no one was at the counter. I could've easily given her my name from there. "You need to come up here and give me your name!" I do. She acts super annoyed. Then she tells me 3 times in 5 min that itll be a 45 min wait. We wouldve waited the 45 min... but it was clear she did not want our business..... read more

Well I've been going here for hair color and cut for months because Ryan is a great colorist and hair cutter. Ryan is always happy and uplifting as well. That is really unfortunate about the review on Ryan below, because that is nothing what I experienced when he did my hair the other day. I came in with a welcoming and understanding of exactly what I wanted, it was a drastic change, compared to the basic trim like from the simpleton review below. My expectations were matched and beyond, he added layers to my hair and explained that it will be easier for me to style it any way I like. He was absolutely right, I can blow dry and style it just the way I like. I walked in feeling like dirt, and left feeling so Fine like sand!!! My first impression was Wow! I really liked the clean and modern atmosphere! I was promptly checked in with a smile, and was able to get my Fade done right away! Sheri did a awesome job! Her professionalism, and how she was easy to talk to was nice during my haircut, I was so surprised I got a haircut and I wasn't itchy! That's unheard of for myself! My hair; fine, dark blonde with sone gray, does not hold color well. I have been going here for over a year for highlights and cuts. One thing to know, shampooing before a cut is not included. They will dampen it if asked. Maybe that helps keeps cost down. That being said, my color (high/low light) has always been done with care and looks great. Sonya listens to exactly what I want and does just what I ask. If I have no clue what I want she helps me figure it out. I used to pay over $100 at fancier salons and end up looking worse. read more

Let me start off by saying. I get a very easy hair cut. 2 on top and 1 on the side with a fade in between. I didn't notice until I got to work that she had missed patches of hair on the top in the back. I had to hear from coworkers all day about my hair cut. Super disappointed. I wont be back here. Also the 20% off in yelp app they had no clue about it. They gave me 2 senior discounts and did honor it after they had talked to each other. read more

Sheri & Karley are my heroes. If you need a skin fade for whatever random occasion that you need to look good at, ask for one of those two ladies. I've never had a bad cut here--- actually, I've only ever had perfect cuts here. Karley also gave me some tips on how to style my hair to match the way it grows in, which I needed badly! All in all, it's a great place to get a great fade & still be able to afford to go out and show off the cut. 6 out of 5 stars if it were possible. read more

We went back about a week later to get my other son a haircut from her and she was not there but another young lady with a unique name I can't remember was super nice and she gave him probably the best haircut he has ever had and my wife even liked it so that girl is awesome, I would give her credit but all I can remember was she had green hair and I think she had a J in her name. read more

I found my home at Cost Cutters in SLO. I first went there and had the pleasure of having Janice do my hair, which had not been cut as I was used in Southern California. Janice listened to me and cut my hair so well that I have been going back over and over for over a year now. What a relief it is to have such a great resource where every stylist cuts hair so well. Just had my hair cut here by Jesse. I have long, straight hair and wanted a simple straight across trim. The left side is half an inch longer than the right side and the cut looks like a weird version of an a-line because it is longer in the front than the back! I will not be going to this place again.... I'm very unhappy. :( read more

Absolutely terrible place to get a haircut. I took my son in for his first haircut (3 1/2) and was so disappointed with the attitude and knowledge with our hairdresser (I believe her name is Patty: middle aged, permanent scowl, haggard). Not only did she not know the current trends, she was very rude to my son and I, rolling her eyes and pushing my sons head aggressively. She then cut the back of his neck and was not apologetic about it, saying "his skin is just sensitive". I gave her a dollar tip and was actually upset I even did that. I am very disappointed with his haircut and now have to find someone else to fix it. I guess you get what you pay for. read more

I am a girl with short hair, and I wanted to get the hair on the back of my head (didn't trust someone new to mess with the more visible bangs) trimmed up before my interview Monday (I have a regular couple that I go to do my usual cut and color, but I didn't get that done over break from school, so I had to find someone in SLO). Went in, was told it would be 20 min, so I went across the parking lot to Home Depot, did some shopping, came back and sat in the chair. I don't know the name of the lady who took care of me, but she was nice and friendly and made sure to ask me if I wanted it clean cut or more wispy, and I got a nice neat cut as I wanted. Was only charged $7, which was great, tipped $3 for an even $10. Would go back for a trim between my regular cuts. read more

WARNING!!! Cost Cutters (by Home Depot) accidentally cut away a large portion of my hair. They apologized and didn't charge me for the cut but now I'm stuck with a really REALLY bad haircut. At first i liked the lady i had. I have short hair, and know the stigma about girls with sorry hair. I told her what i want, but she didn't seem to listen because the next thing i knew i liked like one of two things; a lesbian, or a pre-pubescent boy. .. My boyfriend liked his haircut and the lady who did it was nice! The only thing is that they didn't read the receipt right and he ended up getting charged more than he was supposed to. Example: it was 15.16$ he tipped 3$ and wrote the total being 18.16$ and they charged him 20.16$ thinking his 3 was a 5 even though he wrote 18.16$ being the total. read more
