We were a walkin and normally she schedules an appointment ahead of time but didn't this time. I understand that the inside of the location is very overwhelming, and all to look at and be disrespected with. Plus at the end of your haircut you get to get a prize "sticker". The hairstylist fake eyelashes were so long and thick maybe that is why the hair cuts came out messed up because she can't see? When you are given this form of service it is hard to leave a tip. I understand a family with two children walk in while my sister's boys were getting there haircut. I don't know if the hairstylist felt rushed or what. This was there last visit.

I booked an appointment with Shelby for my 4 yo son . She seemed to be very sweet ! But was a disaster when it came to giving a cut . Even after telling g her soo many times to be careful she ended up giving a cut and left his ear bleeding! She was so slow as if she din knew what she was doing ! After the cut the other lady took over who was better but again if you don't know then don't take up the job !! Another thing that was a throw off - I requested them to play something on the TV which is why they are there and the other lady I think it was Shelly said they cannot play whatever we want and they cannot keep doing it for everybody... they even refused to turn the volume on !!! LOL know what there was no one in the salon except us ! Pretty well explains why ! Not going back to this place !

I feel compelled to warn others about the dramatic decline at Sharkey's following their recent…read moremanagement change. As a longtime customer who brought three sons here for years, the transformation from trusted family establishment to assembly-line hair butchery has been both shocking and disappointing. Let's start with the dishonesty. Upon calling to inquire about our beloved stylist Hilda, we were told she had "retired and moved away with her kids" - a laughably transparent lie given her children are already in high school. A simple "she's no longer with us" would have sufficed; instead, they chose to insult our intelligence with an easily disprovable story. This disrespect for longtime customers set the tone for what would follow. During our visit, the new management's "quantity over quality" approach became painfully apparent. Despite specifically booking our sons with one stylist, the manager Shelly took it upon herself to "speed things up" by taking our oldest son, forcing my wife to coordinate two simultaneous haircuts. When my wife explicitly requested - multiple times - to wait for my arrival before beginning our son's cut, Shelly persistently ignored these wishes, badgering our son for styling decisions and starting the cut anyway. This complete disregard for client preferences seems to be their new standard operating procedure. The resulting haircut was nothing short of technical malpractice. The fade was uneven, the lines were messy, and the sideburns had an amateur's abrupt transition instead of a professional blend. Even my teenage son, who had never before commented on haircut quality, immediately noticed the poor workmanship, stating "I now believe you when you said Hilda was S-tier, this is horrible." He also noted how Shelly rushed through the cut, in stark contrast to Hilda's careful attention to detail - and the results clearly reflected this haste. While Sharkey's may continue to attract first-time kids' haircuts with their videos games / TV shows, they're clearly banking on parents being too distracted or inexperienced to notice their technical incompetence. What was once a convenient, quality option for families has devolved into an expensive lesson in the importance of skilled stylists. Save yourself the disappointment and find a real professional who respects both their craft and their clients. We'll be making the longer drive downtown to a proper stylist - the extra travel time is worth avoiding this kind of sloppy workmanship and customer service. For those considering Sharkey's: unless you're only interested in the video games and don't care about the actual haircut, take your business elsewhere. Your children deserve better than rushed, poorly executed cuts from a establishment that has clearly prioritized turnover over technique.

I had a very disappointing experience at this salon. I…read morearrived for my daughter's appointment for a wash, blow dry, and haircut, which I booked online. The stylist had done my daughter's hair before, so I didn't expect any issues. As soon as we arrived, she asked, "Who booked this appointment for you?" I told her I booked it online. She immediately began telling me that my daughter had "too much hair" for the service I selected and said that the service was for their "white customers." She told me I should have booked a Signature Blowout instead and that I should have called the salon rather than booking online. I understand that textured hair services may require additional time, and the salon does have a separate section for textured hair services. However, a wash, blow dry, and haircut is not listed under that section, so I booked the haircut service exactly as it appeared online. There was nothing during the booking process indicating that this service was limited to certain hair types or that it wasn't appropriate for my daughter. The stylist then said she could "try to do something" with my daughter's hair but wouldn't have enough time. By that point, I was uncomfortable with both her comments and the way she spoke to me. I told her not to worry about it because I no longer wanted her servicing my daughter, and we left. If the salon has different requirements based on hair type, texture, or length, that should be clearly explained in the online booking system. More importantly, those conversations should be handled professionally and respectfully. Unfortunately, this experience made us feel unwelcome, and I won't be returning.

We have a normal…read morehairdresser in Austin that we absolutely love, but prices have been raised so we thought we'd try somewhere closer and new to us. Big mistake. Our son wanted a sort of faux hawk. Short on the side, longer on the top. Nothing crazy. A very common cut for 7 year olds. My husband took him, showed the barber the picture, and tried his best to explain what our son wanted. As soon as the barber started cutting, my husband was nervous. It's extremely extremely short. Nothing like what he wanted. It also wasn't an inexpensive cut, cheaper than what we normally pay, but not worth $26 before tip at all. My husband said the owner was doing an interview and once it concluded, he came out and turned on music that was filled with curse words. I curse like a sailor, but not in a family setting. We will never go back. I'm not sure if the guy was new and just wasn't sure how to cut my son's hair, but all I can say is thank god his hair grows fast and he doesn't have school until Wednesday because it's not great looking. Im posting a picture of my son's before, after, and what we asked for. I've updated the star count to 3. The owner reached out and made things right. While we won't be going back, the actions of the owner show that he's a really good guy and it was just a mistake.

Everyone must be masked and is asked to wash hands immediately upon arrival. I just can't say enough, how much love I have for the responsibility, cleanliness and health consciousness of this unassuming, reasonably priced salon/barbershop. That combined with the quality cut.
