Our house is in the hills, and we had a major remodel done a few years back, which resulted in cracks appearing in the walls and ceilings over the last 17 years that we've lived in the house. There was a stairwell that had some odd patching that had been done to it over the years, and I told him it was OK to just repair the cracks and move on, since it was just a stairwell. He thought about it for a while, and said that he could level the entire stairwell (without extra charge), and make it look a lot better.
