Used car dealers as a rule don't get much love. And in most cases that's richly deserved (we've got another review coming up about one of those dealers that proves the point). But this one with Cos Central was a positive experience in just about every way, so we de decided to share our good news. First and most important, we felt we were treated courteously and fairly in all aspects of our shopping. )And everyone had face masks, too!) We called ahead, were met by a salesman (Mike) who showed us the car we wanted, and responded to our questions. We expressed serious interest and planned to return the next day with our trade-in. We did so and were greeted quickly by Mike and Chris, who oversees all the paperwork. Everything was ready for signing, the transfer of plates was accomplished without a fuss, and the car we purchased had been throughly cleaned and filled with gas. We drove it off the lot happy, and that hasn't changed in the several days since. There's not much more to say. We felt this was a satisfying experience with decent people, and based on our experience we'd recommend Cos Central. It's a family-owned operation, and it feels that way. Was told I CANT BE CHOOSY but I would have to put down $4000 on whichever 3 cars I chose from ... Bought a used RAV4 from them about 12 months ago. Decent experience, the staff was friendly and helpful. The only issue is the window motor on one of the back doors burned out as seeing as how the 60 day warranty was active I took it to them. Their mechanic couldn't fix the issue quickly so they sort of threw up their hands and gave me an "oh well". Not a bad dealership, but I would have any car you bought their checked out by someone else. read more

Less than a year ago I purchased a truck from this establishmen. I have driven it less than 7,000 miles. It had 108,000 when I bought it. The truck is a GMC SIERRA 2012. A few weeks ago I took the truck to my mechanic for a very minor repair. I was told that the frame is completely rotted and was the worst frame rot he had ever seen in 35+ years of being a mechanic. If the frame rot wasn't seen by this dealer then they are grossly inept, if it was, then they are seriously dishonest. I went to the dealer with my complaints. They said they'd take a look and if it could be fixed they would fix it. I asked how could I trust them to fix it, and was told I couldn't. I was further told that it was my fault that I bought a bad truck because I had not brought it to a third party to be checked, and it was further my fault because I originally went there for a different vehicle. Obviously I would never shop here again, and I hope my story sheds some light on these rotten bastards. read more

Recently we purchased an auto from COS AUTOMOTIVE. After our vehicle was inspected by a local shop it was brouht back to their lot and awaited our purchase. When we finalized our cash purchase we were assured the vehicle was by the salesman. Few days later we drove it only to discover that the Navigation system was inoperable. We spoke with Chris (Owner) who with all his years in this business blew us off. Even hung up on us. This is an establishment that has Alot of bad reviews and he clearly knows how to airbrush and sidestep issues, Cos has nern doing it for years clearly. One nearly needs to not only scan their reviews and research complaints both made with The BBB and other agencies. We even reached out to numerous individuals who had horrendous experiences with Cos Automotive. Christ, we wish we knew this places reputation. We would never have given up over $10.000 only to be screwed and disrespected. Today my fiance called and Chris claimed because of our intent to notify numerous goverment agencies and our review he would not correct the issues. Undoubtedly he's been through this before and knows how to clean it up with his own distorted replies pn his website. We are now reaching out to those who have been taken by their operating tactics and are speaking with a large legal firm in Hartford in effort to file action. We have conversed with others who have ungone similar treatment and are considering if necessary a Class action. Be careful buying an auto from Cos. Do your research. read more

After a extensive research and browsing numerous listings for a car, i stumbled upon this car dealer and a Dodge Dart at a reasonable price compared to others listed. So i drove from Jersey City, NJ to Meriden CT and walked in today to inquire about a 2013 Dodge Dart Limited with 134,000 miles for my wife, and unfortunately had an extremely unpleasant service from the representative here. A older mid/late 40s to early 50s white man approached us while we were walking; he "quasi" expected us because we asked alot of demographic questions on the phone prior pertaining the car and if the car has any problems and etc., he mentioned the car runs well and we can come see it. We informed him in person once there that we're the people from NYC that are here to see the Dart, he proceeds to bring the keys and me and my wife are viewing the car. He hands me the keys and my wife enters the car and i look under the hood to verify the condition of the car mechanically. The man looks from a distance in disgust as if we didnt trust if the car worked well, or etc. We've been driving all over the tri-state area and all over Car Gurus and FB Marketplace looking for a Dart in good condition and we've been dissapointed throughout our search. Unfortunately, this car was in horrible shape. The body was beat up, you'll figure a car with significant damage would have pictures that display such damage to avoid inconvenience or misleading facts about the car. A list of the cars initial problems: Car had alot of significant damage, paint bubbling, and excessive scrapes and dents. Paint was 2 tone as if the car has been in an accident (regardless if insurance was involved or not) Engine bay was cleaned excessively as if they were trying to hide an underlying problem (oil/coolant leaks, etc.), after further inspection i found excessive oil splatter around the bottom of the engine bay, and coolant resevoir area, as well as the oil fill cap area (black oil, not brand new looking oil); coolant tank on the inside was dirty as if dirt intruded the coolant system; brake fluid looked like Welchs Grape Juice, extremly black and wayyy beyond its life. Inside of the car stinked like chemicals and damp musty smell; the glass cluster to the speedometer was broken and the car was in extremely horrible shape. THIS IS BEFORE I TURNED ON THE CAR! So i proceeded to turn on the car and it had a extremely rough idle. Idle sounded like i was sitting in a Tractor lol, idle was very loud as well and was definitely unusual because the idle was at 2,000 rpms instead of its usual 6-800 rpm range as whats in the manuals. So i decided to wait and see if Rpms dropped and they didnt after waiting 10 mins; I cycled through park, drive, reverse and neutral and there was excessive jumping and vibrations (except neutral). i asked the rep can i have the keys to the other Dart to compare and contrast the sounds and the quality of the vehicle, and he gave me the key. This Dart was wayyy worse than the other one, the sound was horrible and qualify was worse. I dont a simple google research for "Rough Idle Dodge Dart 2013" and the first thing that came up was engine misfire, spark plugs, timing belt,, and ignition coils can be damaged. My wife didnt want to go back to NYC after the long drive without exhausting all hope that this car is ok enough to purchase, so she told me to use my OBD2 device to check the codes on the car; i asked the man for the key for the first Dart because I wanted to run the codes before i can consider to buy this car; he mentioned "The Car runs fine"; I informed him, i dont feel comfortable making a purchase of this magnitude without running OBD2 Scanner to verify if any codes are active or been erased; and he mentioned "I DONT CARE", with a nasty shitty grin on his face; implicating that he doesnt care about this transaction nor he wants to give me the opportunity to verify the status of the car. I received a very "Racist" vibe from this guy; a vibe im usually spot on with people who express this demeanor. I WOULD HIGHLY SUGGEST to not bother with vehicles here at all, all the prices are overinflated for the vehicles that are on their "metaphorical last breath", or underinflated for cars with "as is" purchase standards with excessive underlying issues for people who arent mechanically inclined to do basic fundamental checks prior to getting fucked by that Racist motherfucker!! So do yourself a favor, save money going certified pre-owned at a legit dealer, or save money via a private seller on FB Marketplace or Craigslist, etc. Dont waste your time entertaining this fool. read more

This is the worst used car dealership I've ever been to. The customer service by Mike and Chris was absolutely terrible right from the start. I had a gut feeling I shouldn't purchase a car from them and my gut was correct unfortunately. The car I purchased broke down one week after I signed the paperwork. They refused to have it towed back to the dealership then refused to give me a loaner until my car was finished, told me the transmission blew then told me nothing was wrong with it. They did finally end up giving me a loaner after I asked to speak to the owner, although i never did get to speak with him. Chris screamed at me on the phone and hung up on me when all I wanted was to ask what was going on with my car. I am now contacting a lawyer, it's been five days and I still don't know what is going on with my car. Never again! read more

I was trying to make an appointment over the phone and the man that answered was really rude!!! He asked if I could pay $25 up front for the appointment itself. I told him "give me a second while I looked for my card" and I put him on mute for a minute or two and all he was doing was cursing like I couldn't hear him. He kept saying "I don't have time for this shit, people always want to make appointments and never show up". He was saying other things too but that's besides the point. I bought a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe in late September 2021. At time of pick up they told me they put 2 new back tires on and replaced the front brake pads. Once I left the dealership, The car still felt off. I thought it was the alignment, they paid to have an alignment done. Town fair tire did the alignment and informed me the front tires were unsafe and the car should not have been sold to me in this condition. Chris (the manager) explained he was Short handed and could not have the car come in for the 2 front new tires for 10 days. Once the car was finally there, It took them an entire day to replace 2 tires. I lost a day of work, because they are would not provide me a loaner for the day. When I inquired how long it would take to complete my car, to the man in the front building after an extensive wait time, The owner "Cosmo" (said it on his name plaque on his desk) was VERY rude and basically told me to shut up and sit down, because I'm getting the tires for free and I should be grateful And just wait. The new tires made the car feel better, but it still wasn't right. They assured me that their mechanic said nothing is wrong with the car, and it's because I'm not used to driving AWD. "it's a different feeling". Fast forward 30 days, I start my car to go to work and my front end sounds like it's dragging. My front strut broke. i was not going back to this dealership! Firestone said you could clearly see the strut was compromised, and it was rusted. So it was not a new issue. I didn't want to deAl with these people at "Cos's Auto" again so I ate the $1200 and had the front end repaired by a mechanic I was confident in. 30 days after that my front brake Caliper freezes. I called Cos Auto and was basically told I am shit out of luck. Another $1200 To fix that. Today, my other set of calipers froze! Apparently my brake line fluid was rotten and it's has caused these extensive brake issues! All of the issues with this car, are safety issues that should have been caught at time of safety inspection by the dealer. I will be filing complaints against the them, with the appropriate state agencies. Moral of the story buyer beware with this deaership! Obviously, their mechanic either sucks or is being told to look over certain things to avoid having to repair them. Have your own mechanic look over the car, prior to purchase, if Cosmo will let them. read more

Cos central auto are very shady do not go there. Was told $702.00 to have a vehicle registered. Registration paper only showed $245.00 for registration. I questioned cost because dmv website stated if a dealer charges more then a $25.00 processing fee during the pandemic under executive order 7yy to report the dealer. They told me they would void transaction and return a full refund. Moments later i was told they could not. They then handed me $173.00 back along with plates. When i asked for a receipt from a lady named brenda she made one up that made no sense numbers did not add up. I showed them the dmv website with law stating they could not charge over $25 to process a registration. She then told me she had other customers. They charged a $250 fee and tried more then double registration. They are big time scammers beware of Keith and Brenda taking more then allowed during the pandemic and ripping people off. I reported too dmv fraud department. I hope no one else gets scammed from then during this time. read more

BUYER BEWARE!! Bought vehicle 12/21/15. COS Central stated the HVAC concern was fixed. When driving back to NY, determined the HVAC was not fixed. Called dealer on the MA turnpike, he stated the mechanic thought he corrected it. However, they admitted they did not install the part as it was "backordered" and labor intensive. When taking to a mechanic in NY, in addition to the HVAC problem, the left front hub bearing needs replacing, and engine oil cooler hose needs replacing for a total $1,600 estimate. Dealer stated we would need to bring the vehicle back to CT for repairs. Chris (Manager) is not willing to refund the purchase price, pay for repairs in NY, or pay to have vehicle towed to CT. Has not returned phone call! read more

I got ripped off Melissa recently bought a 2009 Subaru Impreza for over $14000.00 from Cos' Central Auto Address: 1652 N Broad St, Meriden, CT 06450 Phone:(203) 634-7878 from Chris. Before the vehicle was purchased we complained about three problems found during a test drive, (catalytic converter rattle, tires low on tread, and the air conditioning was blowing warm air), we were told these problems would be repaired. Melissa gave a deposit of $200.00 0n July 15th 2015 for a hold car payment. At that time we also told them then that the car has three problems and they must be fixed, I told Maurice that we don't want a lemon. Melissa went to pick up the vehicle July 17th 2015 drove it home to find out the AC is blowing warm air, the tires were not touched, and the rattle still exists. I called and spoke with Maurice on Monday July 20th to let him know about the problems. We drove it back to COS on Tuesday July 21st 2015 for them to look at the problems, (we live 1 hour away). When we got there at 10:30am I simulated the rattle, showed the service manager and Maurice the tires, and AC blowing warm air. I to am in the automotive business, I showed them the tires in the front are 4/32nds and is also showing positive toe wear, new they are 12/32nds, we were told that the tires MUST be less than 1/2 way worn and they would leave them alone. We agreed, The tires again are 2/3rds of the way worn, and the rears are 6/32nds, but on a all wheel drive vehicle you DO NOT JUST REPLACE 2 TIRES, you replace all four. So my wife and I went back there at 3:00pm on Tuesday July 21st 2015 to pick up the vehicle. They told us the ac evaporator was no good. Our three problems still exist. I asked Maurice to help us, he told me he cant do anything because Chris is on vacation, we still have the three original problems which should have been fixed BEFORE the vehicle was picked up for purchase in the first place. We lost confidence in COS because of all this running around. WE will take our vehicle to a Subaru dealership where they know what they are doing. read more

I would strongly urge you NOT to purchase from Cos Auto. I purchased a vehicle in summer '17. Within the first 30 day warranty period, we reported transmission issues (vehicle would not move when put in drive/reverse and/or vehicle would loose power while driving). Within the first 3 months after warranty period, we had to spend a couple $1000 on several misc repairs. Then, not 8 months after we purchased the vehicle, the transmission completely blew. Despite reporting transmission issues during the warranty period, Cos Auto would not assist with the transmission replacement/repairs stating it was 'not their fault,' AND despite our vehicle paperwork stating that if the issue was reported during the warranty period, the seller has an obligation to assist with repairs (I'm paraphrasing of course). To make matters worse, the trusted mechanic that we took the vehicle to to get it fixed informed us that the transmission had major repairs done in 2015. This was NOT mentioned when we purchased the vehicle. Our mechanic also told us that the vehicle had a bad head gasket and one of the pistons on the engine was going out as well. Bottom line - I feel like this place sold me a lemon and they are just saying, 'It's not their fault." DO NOT BUY A VEHICLE FROM HERE unless you want to spend half the purchase price in repairs within the first year!!! With the amount of money we've spent on repairs in the past 8 months (since we bought the vehicle), we could have almost paid it off! read more
