I don't want to make this a review that hurts James Street Auto or their future business, because…read moreChad was very nice in interactions. However, I can't say I was totally satisfied with the outcome of my two trips to James Street Auto. On the first trip, I had a tie rod fail on me. I had it towed to James Street after a fair quote on price and timeline. I realize Chad does't have a huge staff and he's basically running the place on his own, but he did not keep me informed throughout the process very well. It took about a week and a half, which was much longer than he had said in our first conversation. The work seemed good and the price was VERY fair. Despite the timing, I was happy. He warned me my ball joints had some movement but he wouldn't worry about them right now. He failed to have the wheels aligned correctly the first time due to this. As I left, that same day my alternator failed. I needed up replacing this myself to avoid further cost. I chalked it up to coincidence. Then about a month or two later, a ball joint failed. Chad had warned me, so I wasn't too surprised. I had my car towed to James Street Auto again. This time the quotes for parts were just as fair as the first time. However, the labor was much higher. He replaced all of the ball joints and a sleeve on a tie rod that had been damaged in the process. Again, communication was poor. To get updates, I was forced to call and ask. My car was there for over two weeks. As he got the wheels aligned this time, a coolant hose blew out of the intake and sprayed coolant everywhere. (again, this was when they still had the car). To replace the intake he quoted me at $400 for the part (I searched the same brand and kit he mentioned and it retailed for $150) and 5 hours of labor but he also said he could try to epoxy the hose back for just an hours labor and it may hold. If not, we would just have to pay to replace the intake. I had him try the epoxy. I picked up the car and drove it away and it was running poorly. It was missing as I drove. I took it to an out of town mechanic I used all the time when I lived further north. They found the intake was still leaking, so the epoxy had not held. They replaced the intake for the cost of the part (150) and 2 hours of labor. A fraction of what I was quoted at james street. As for the "missing" on the engine, the epoxy had leaked into where the spark plugs are housed, so I had to have all the caps replaced. It's all a very unfortunate situation. Chad was very nice, but I never left his shop without having further problems - yes, my car has over 150,000 miles, but I've had much better experience elsewhere. He is very fair on pricing parts, but the labor seems to be quoted high.

However, I brought my car to have them repair my power steering repaired. They called me and told me that it was fixed. But when I arrived at home my power steering was still leaking and I had to keep putting power steering fluid to work. I took my car back to them again to fix it. Once again they told me it was repaired. A few days later my wife was stranded while shopping for over an hour because the hose that they replaced was an inferior hose. I had to take my car to another repair shop and they told me that whoever replaced that hose was not a proper hose and it didn't even have a clamp on it. I called Quality Break and Auto repair being that they didn't do the job correctly after two times of bringing my vehicle to their shop. I called them to ask that some of he money be returned to me being that I had to pay over $600.00 again to actually have it repaired correctly. I was told that there was nothing they could do! I'm a prior Veteran who is 68 years old and on Social Security we don't receive a lot of money from Social Security. one would think that they would stand by their work, but not so!!! So much for being honest. One thing is for sure they lost a customer!

I asked a local cousin where we could go, knowing we were ripe for the picking for being ripped off. He suggested TLC as they take their cars to them, too. We rolled in on a Monday morning as soon as they opened, and asked them to run diagnostics for us. (fully preparing to buy a new car if necessary as this was a 13 year old Ford with spotty maintenance and a lot of unknown history prior to it landing with my daughter) We came back after grabbing a bite to eat to find it up and going, with what I considered to be a very minor bill. A hose had broken, causing a vacuum leak, which then caused all sorts of other issues - like transmission and engine lights coming on, rough idling, and stalling out. I wasn't looking for a deal, just honest. Honesty and integrity were what we got. I couldn't have been more impressed and would encourage any and all auto needs to find their way to TLC. If I wasn't based out of CA, they'd get every ounce of my business. Thank you, SO MUCH, for taking care of us on such short notice. You made an incredibly stressful situation a positive one and this mama couldn't be more grateful.
