Lazy work. We hired…read moreJose Arias of Bries to re-gravel our driveway and build a stone border around the adjacent flower bed. They cut corners in just about every way imaginable. We came home to discover they built the flower bed about 6 feet too short, ending in the middle of the parking space. But wasn't a misunderstanding; the flower bed already existed, and they were just putting a border around it. They literally ripped out two fully grown rose bushes and replanted them between our other shrubs to shrink the size of the flower bed and the amount of work they had to do. The roses are now dying. Meanwhile, the big project--regraveling the driveway--was barely done at all. They literally just washed the very sparse existing gravel and put it back down, with big patches of dirt. We complained, and Jose came back--and half-assed the job again. He put down a very small amount of new gravel--not nearly enough to cover the bare patches of the driveway--and extended the flower bed edging, but squared it off at the edge rather than follow the curve of the bed. The dying roses remained where they replanted them. Even after this second attempt, there are still weeds and still patches of bare gravel. It's clear Jose Arias is not going to do this job in any satisfactory manner. He already has my money but the least I can do is warn others not use this lazy, cut-corners, apathetic contractor.

Jose installed an ill-fitting toilet seat (even with the toilet brand given to him) and the chipped bathtub was painted in a color not matching the rest of the bathtub. In addition, Jose quoted extremely overpriced services as "deals" (other contractors quotes were far, far less). Jose also re-grouted the shower and stated it would not need to be grouted for at least another year. Four weeks later, Jose was contacted as the grout was starting to come off; however, Jose did not follow up to the messages. Due to this experience, I cannot recommend Jose Arias, and I would advise looking elsewhere for reliable and professional contractors who value customer satisfaction and stand by their work.

After some research, I hired Jesryn General Contractor LLC to remove and install a French door and to fill in hardwood flooring for a small area of a bedroom. This was supposed to be a two-day project. However, it quickly turned into an almost 2-week project! Once Julio removed the door, things changed...for the worst and then got better. He could have just completed the job he was contracted for, but he explained that he found major water damage. He said he could not in good faith just install the door. Sharing this unfortunate information could have made me stop the project immediately and sharing this unfortunate information could have loss money for his company, but it's not solely about the money for Julio, it's more about integrity. His reputation of trying to always do what is right and do it well. So, he removed and replaced all of the rotted wood first. Julio told me not to worry, he would work with me, and he would make sure everything was completed accurately, efficiently and that I would be very pleased with the results. He was right. I love the outcome! I never had to wonder what was going on, Julio communicated every step of the way, and he even took pictures. Unfortunately my husband I had an overall negative experience with J&G Contractors & feel that…read moreJimmy is not trustworthy. I originally found J&G through Nextdoor -- I had posted that I needed a bird's nest removed and some minor exterior repair. Jimmy came right over, assessed the issue, and it was gone in the week. This was an easy, small job -- but I was impressed by Jimmy's quick response and asked if he could handle the bigger job of repainting the entire interior of my home. Jimmy assessed the overall size/rooms of our home and gave us what we thought was a fair quote. They started the job the first week of Feb 2023. I was working from home during the contracted project, so I was able to observe the work. There were a series of issues: - Jimmy used a sample of paint from Benjamin Moore to color match at Sherwin Williams. There was an issue with the color matching, but Jimmy purchased 5 gallons up front, which was a waste of about $500. I always recommend color matching a single gallon first so you can double check that the colors are correct on the wall patch before moving forward. Jimmy wanted us to pay for the full cost of the 5 gallons of incorrect paint, but we talked him down to 50%. - Jimmy wasn't correctly communicating with his painting team, so they painted several ceilings that they were not supposed to. Sure, the ceilings looked nice, but it was a waste of labor time and paint, which meant that the painting project lasted longer than it needed to. - At one point there was an argument between Jimmy and half of his painting team. Those few guys refused to continue working for Jimmy, which meant the painting team was reduced by half--adding to the length of time it took to finish the job. Jimmy inappropriately told me about the argument (which had something to do with him paying or not paying half of them up front) and referred to his crew as "a bunch of girls." Unfortunately he repeated this story to my husband, which also just made us feel like he wasn't doing a good job of managing his team. - The 3 guys who were left painting appeared to start rushing to get the job done. There was a lot of paint left on our floors, which we've been slowly scraping up in the months since they finished. - We also discovered after the project was over that they had smashed a lamp in our den & tried to hide the evidence. Unfortunately the lamp was clearly missing its glass cover and we were vacuuming shards of glass for several days. - The guys also clogged my bathroom sink with a ton of paint because they were washing their paint brushes off there instead of in the kitchen. I asked Jimmy to unclog the sink, which he did. And then he POSTED A PICTURE OF IT to his Instagram with a caption like "We do it all." Yeah. You clog people's sink with paint and then unclog it? Okay, Jimmy. I'll also add that he posted other photos from my house that I did not approve and I would like him to take those photos down. - We asked Jimmy if he could remove one of our railings and he seemed utterly confused by the railing bolts. He went to the hardware store and I think spent $40 on various bits and told me none of the bits fit and he couldn't do it. My husband went to the store, bought the right bit, and just did it himself in 30 minutes. - The kitchen cabinets were to be lightly sanded, primed, and painted. Jimmy's team did not do this. They also didn't remove all the doors from the cabinets to really do a careful job with the details. The paint is thick with drips, there are areas where they clearly missed painting entirely, and it is peeling in some spots only 3 months later. Jimmy seemed confused as to why the paint wasn't gripping to the cabinet doors and we requested again that the team sand, prime, and paint. I'll note here that our original quote indicated that the team would use a paint sprayer (which allows for even painting) and Jimmy said they didn't have a sprayer and wouldn't use one. - Jimmy recognized that the cabinets were done very poorly and sent us an email before he left that had a 1-year guarantee specifically for the cabinets. We pressed him about what this meant and he said "Oh, any time you have an issue - a scratch or something - I'll send a guy out to fix it. Any time during the year." Since Jimmy sent us this guarantee, he is GHOSTED us. For awhile I received some weird excuse emails, but now it is radio silence. He had also agreed via email to replace our lamp or reimburse us the $100 (luckily it was a cheaper lamp from Target). Nope -- no reimbursement for the lamp, no reply to our requests to discuss the issues with the cabinets. We are likely going to end up re-doing all the cabinets ourselves because Jimmy did such a bad job. Truly, the worst part of this situation is that this review would probably be 3 or 4 stars if Jimmy were a better business owner and offered to re-do the cabinets correctly and reimburse us for the broken lamp.

During a recent home improvement project to install hardwood flooring, I removed the laminate…read moreflooring that was already in place. Upon removal, I noticed that the stairs were not only badly damaged (from a previous owner's work), but were failing in multiple areas when accessed underneath. This was no longer a home improvement project, but now became a safety issue. I contacted Jonathan on a Tuesday afternoon letting him know that we had a staircase that was in need of repair. I reached out to 10 companies (that listed on their Yelp reviews that they offered carpentry) requesting a carpenter or carpentry skills, but only Jonathan and another company indicated that they could repair stairs that were damaged and in need of repair. The other company was not as responsive and indicated that they were fully booked through the summer, and that they didn't have the time. After texting and calling Jonathan throughout the day Tuesday, Jonathan indicated that he would come out the following morning to assess the damage with one of his highly skilled employees. Jonathan and his skilled carpenter were timely and direct in what needed addressed. He indicated that we would replace 10 of the 13 treads, and that they would reinforce all of the stairs underneath with 2x4's and other materials. Jonathan and his skilled carpenter were not only efficient, timely, and responsive, but the quality exceeded all expectations. Jonathan's carpenter worked nonstop Wednesday (not even a break!) and finished ahead of schedule on Thursday. The high quality work was much more than we had anticipated, and the price was reasonable (considering the urgency and timing). I highly recommend Jonathan and his company. We plan to use them for improvements and projects. Top Notch!
