A few weeks ago I asked my fb friends for a recommendation for an auto body shop. Someone said that they had, had work done at Cortez Auto Pros in League City and they highly recommended this business. So I took my car there and they were very nice and professional. They told me that they don't do the type of work that I needed but they still wanted to look at it and give me a recommendation. Turns out they were able to order the part I needed and install it. I was so pleased with the fast turnaround time and mostly pleased with the price. I had expected it to be so much more than what I paid. Today I made another visit to Cortez to have my dash lights checked out. They were very dim and I just figured it was an electrical issue. When I explained my issue to the gentleman upfront, he was very transparent upfront and told me what the hourly rate would be and the expected time to solve the issue. He did want to go out and take a look and assess the issue. He took a look and came to me with an answer. It infact was the dimmer,and it had been turned down. The dimmer was not where I expected it to be with the rest of the lights. It was lower on the dash in an area I never notice. I had taken my car for a cleaning last week and it was probably moved by accident while they were cleaning. I'm so thankful to have found Cortez auto. Years ago I would have given this place 10 stars! But now, the automatics has brought them down. From rude attitudes to not completing all work needed, it is NOT THE PLACE TO TAKE YOUR VEHICLE. I spent $2500 on a pil leak repair and was given my truck back with the same issue I brought it for and for something new that started when they fixed it!!! First I needed a pulley and they repaired the belt but not the remainder of it! so I paid twice for labor for them to go back in for the same repair!! Now I have my truck only for them to say, I STILL need a throttle! "we didn't know, we fixed the oil leak" And other repairs that apparently THEY BROKE WHILE IN IT fixing the pulley!! ( they fixed that with NO ARGUMENT!!! So, now I'm expected to PAY THE SAME LABOR FOR THEM TO GO BACK IN AND FIX THE THROTTLE that they say they had no way to know needed replaced. Oh, and while I initially said I wanted them to check what it was slanting in the rear.... They now say "that's a dealer problem". again, this was a good service provider, but now? no! I'm left paying $2500 and can't drive my truck STILL! read more

Usually I have a pleasant experience with Cortez Auto pros league city location. I took my car for a diagnostic test and left with a broken radio and a damaged fuse. The electrical lock system caused me not to be able to unlock my car and I had to pay a lock smith to get it open. Ray was rude and unapologetic. He passively said what I can do is pay $430 for a brand new screen "usually we charge for a diagnostic test" after telling me my radio was broken. He also rudely suggested I go to the junk yard to get a screen and that I am free to go the keys are in the car. Ray never apologized even after I called about not being able to get in my car. I understand people having a bad day so I was polite and thanked him. But I wouldn't want anyone to experience his poor customer service, insulting comments and lack of respect. I speak Spanish and English anyone could have spoke with me about my car and made better suggestions. I was disappointed today and wouldn't recommend Cortez Auto pros anymore. read more

Not a fan. Went in for an alignment, and they tried to tell me I needed 1000 dollars of work done before they could even do it. I took it somewhere else who explained my parts were perfectly fine and showed me what to look for. If I hadn't taken my car, I'd be out a grand for no reason. I would strongly discourage anyone from getting a service done at Cortez Auto Pros and would recommend seeking an alternate auto shop. I cannot speak to the service of all employed, but both of my experiences with Jacob within 24 hours have confirmed my decision to never return. Yesterday, when getting an emission check, I waited 60-70 minutes for a 15-minute service because Jacob 1) "skipped the step" (their words) to input a year for my car and 2) input the wrong license plate number. As I was set to check out (thinking my car passed), I WAS THE ONE THAT NOTICED THIS WAS WRONG (not them) and asked for it to be retested with the correct details since I would need accurate details to get my Texas tag at the DMV. Although I disregarded this as human error and moved on, unfortunately if I had not noticed the error, I would have 1) waited at the DMV (long lines!) only to have the emission check denied for inaccurate details, 2) needed to return to Cortez to properly redo the test, and 3) had to return to the DMV once again. PLEASE BE SURE TO DOUBLE CHECK YOUR PAPER WORK IF YOU DO CHOOSE TO WORK WITH CORTEZ. As background, the Texas pass/fail emission standards vary based on the year of the car. Therefore it is important that they accurately input the year and not "skip the step" (their words) as Jacob did. My car failed the 2nd time (once the correct year was input). Jacob was rude when I was asking to understand why it would pass the 1st time and fail the 2nd time. Again, this is based on years - I know nothing about cars, so I did not know that, but seems that this could have been avoided had the test been properly completed the first time. I dismissed this as human error and moved on. HOWEVER, MY EXPERIENCE TODAY, I CANNOT DISMISS. Today, after waiting in the lobby for 10-15 minutes because no one was at the front desk, I finally found someone and asked for my FREE re-test. Jacob's behavior is why I will never return. Obviously remembering me from yesterday and being annoyed with my 2 questions for why my car would pass then fail (how dare I seek to understand an error that HE made, I guess?) Jacob stared at me through the window of the "Employees Only" glass door for 1-2 minutes before "graciously" deciding that he would enter the waiting area and assist me. After telling Jacob why I was back and asking for the pre-test that another employee has mentioned yesterday, Jacob said he didn't know what I was talking about. After asking him if it possible that he connect with the other employee regarding the pre-test, Jacob, without saying anything, walked away back to the garage. No acknowledgement that he would check. No acknowledgement that my test would be run. No acknowledgement whatsoever. After waiting for 3-4 minutes and realizing that I wouldn't be acknowledged and my request would be ignored, I walked up the "Employees Only" glass window to see if perhaps Jacob was working with anyone. Instead (and I won't forget this), he was leaning on a desk with nothing to do, with his legs crossed, staring directly at me and smirking. I pointed to my paperwork to see if he would come assist me. He continued to stare and smirk arrogantly, continuing to ignore me. This lasted 30-60 seconds, until I decided that this was not an auto shop that I wanted to patron. I will not be back. Not even for my FREE recheck. I will be starting anew with a different auto shop. DISCLAIMER: I cannot speak to the customer service of others employed, but unfortunately Jacob is in charge of the emissions service, and that is the service that I need. Unfortunately a bad employee can spoil the bunch and because of my series of negative experiences with this single employee, I will not return and dissuade anyone else against using them as well. However, if you do choose to service with Cortez, I would advise 1) double checking all paper work - as they will not and it may be improperly done and 2) don't expect a high quality of customer service. read more

Haven't been here in a while but just remembering my experiences. Brought oil to them to have them change it out. I remember someone saying "yeah we're not shady like those other stores who use cheap oil for your car and keep the good oil that the customer brings." My car holds 7 qts for oil. I went there to get an inspection I just had an all wheel brake job done, now I've been in the automotive industry for over 30 years I just needed an inspection so I wiped in there the broken English Hispanic man who was the inspector got in my car and drove it around the block came back and told me that my brakes were bad I looked at him with this strange look he tells me it's going to be an additional 4995 to inspect the brakes I told him that I just had my brakes done a week before and he was out of his mind if he is getting any more than 39.75 out of me. I got in my car left went to Friendswood to do quick car they slapped a inspection on the car. my question is, how many people has he done that too that has no knowledge of automobiles hes a scamster and I would not trust him to change a tire driver beware. read more

I was very surprised at their service level. Stopped by after registering a used vehicle and needed inspection. They jumped up and banged it out then mounted the new plates plus registration sticker. They were so efficient I had them hook up their a/c machine to make sure its efficient in August. They found just 5# low and discovered one of two electric fans weak. That I can fix. New to the area and have gotten a bit of the runaround from others on my needed auto repair. Cortez auto was not only very honest but very friendly. The manager had one of his guys give me a ride home while they repaired my vehicle and even offered to pick me up. They were very speedy on getting the repairs done(wheel bearings). They also did the work for several hundred dollars cheaper than most the other quotes I was given from others. I am definitely using them for all my future auto maintenance and repair. Dropped $1K in this place to alleviate "noises". Sold expensive parts and even higher labor, didnt solve it at all. Went back to them and requested they recheck their "repair". The lead came to me and said everything was ok. Yet my car continued to make the same pops as before. My one-year warranty just expired. I am now spending a pile of money elsewhere to redo what these people did, and yet cheaper for more repair. I do not recommend this place at all! read more

I came across Cortez' Auto Pros to get a slow leak in my tire plugged after trying to go to several other locations but told it would cost $30+ and there was an hour and a half wait! (I recently got a Z rated tire on my Camaro 1LE plugged and it only cost $15.) Less than 10 minutes later and wham, bam, thank you ma'am we were on our way. And what's better? We didn't pay more than I paid on my Camaro, in fact, the owner (I'm assuming) gave it to us for free! We'll definitely be coming back with other issues we may run across automotive wise! It is very difficult to find a mechanic shop that can be trusted. As an auto owner I depend on the knowledge of the experts however it is hard to find honest ones. The problem seems to lye in the distrust of dealer mechanics and non dealer mechanics. I had my rotors and brake pads on all four wheels. My subaru develop a shaking of the wheels Cortez auto after doing multiple things was not able to remedy the problem. Last conversation was that the could not find any problem. So I took it to the dealer at CLear lake subaru. Clear lake subaru say rotors were grind below specification and pads are taking the shape of the rotors. I confronted Cortez Auto Pros nd the first question was why did I not bring the car to them. As I explained to the person behind the counter, you have looked at it for about four time and have not fixed the problem. By this time the guy who has handled most repair shows up his first comment is the dealer is lying. I say that brake rotors and pad should not wear down in one year. It is hard to try to find who to trust. My concern was not to get refund only to gather information, the fact that his guy was so defensive questions who the honest vendor is. I will have to reconsider taking my business to Cortez auto. I have asked Subaru to hold all parts replaced. Let see if they are able to fix the problem. I have my question on both vendors. This review is meant to provide more information, to other customer who have had same running with either vendor. Where I ever return to this vendor will have to wait on result on repair and parts return from subaru after repair. read more

We took our 2005 ford focus to them to get repaired. I explained very clearly that I wanted the vacuum purge pump installed along with a pcv valve, change the oil and filter and replace the injectors. Also to make sure the vacuum hoses were correct and to install a new gasket kit on the intake. I was told I had a bad fuel rail pressure sensor and that was the cause of the problem. They replaced it, THEN was told it was a bad catalytic converter. I replaced that. They did not change the injectors but said they did on receipt. They did not change all the intake gaskets like I requested. They did not change the oil filter, and kept the one I provided. They were going to keep my injectors until I asked about them. I was told they have no way of figuring out the vacuum routing except from the pic under the hood. I'm not 100% sure they changed the oil, as it is dirty. Now I am told to replace injectors. They seem to just want to replace parts without finding out the root cause of WHY they need replacing. Dishonest. I now have over $400 in parts I didn't need and $200 in their labor and the car is exactly the same, if not worse. GO ELSEWHERE!! read more
