I regret coming back to this office after not having been there for two years. There was a reason I hadn't gone back. Drs seemed aloof regarding appts despite me explaining several times my purpose there to the scheduler and intake nurse. On top of that, they bill labs incorrectly which has caused me and so many others financial difficulties. Office staff is rude and incompetent. Just save yourself the trouble and don't see this Dr. You'll have at least 1 hr in the waiting room to contemplate your decision if you're seeing this review after already scheduling. I implore you to RUN!!! Drs Gabriela and Dennis Cortes are friendly. But if your office staff is incompetent, it doesn't matter. Plus, the drs themselves don't seem to communicate well with their staff. Half my appts here are spent doing small talk instead of getting to the point. I appreciate the kindness of these drs but like I said, their office staff fvcked it up for me. I went for a preventative care appt and left with an almost $800 bill from labs I never requested be done. Come to find out, they used the wrong codes. I brought it to their attention after trying to get into contact with them for DAYS, and was told that they had reached out to my insurance and to wait 30 days for them to investigate the claim. Well, it's now almost 2 months later and I got a collection notice from the lab company bc apparently they never got notice from my insurance company of this "investigation". Probably bc when I called my insurance, I confirmed that the doctors office HADN'T DONE WHAT THEY'D SAID THEY'D DONE. Just slack and inconsiderate. I literally resent this office. read more

I personally met Dr. Cortes a few years ago, nice man, professional and caring! Unfortunately, this is not the same for some of his office staff. It's not easy getting in touch with this office, I'm constantly put on long hold or the office is still on service at 9:30am, go figure?? Dr. Cortes has been my primary care phys since early in his practice about 15 years or so. He has extensive knowledge all around. Does not hesitate to send you tests needed as well as referring you to the best doctor for your needs and in my case calling that specialist to see me right away. Just had a recen visit to ER where they sent me home havI got kidney stone pains. He got me an apt with the specialist and had surgery two days later for a stone I could not pass and after being in pain on an off for two years with the hospital telling me that I could pass these stones. Chronic or serious cases beware. Do not come to this office! Not suited for heavy medical management. I've worked in the healthcare field in various medical settings and clerical positions including; Jackson, multiple multi speciality offices; with referrals, authorizations, checkin/checkout; phlebotomy, and more; for various years. I base my opinions on that experience and on my interactions with the office and staff so far. So I recently began with Dr Cortes as I moved into a new area. As he was highly recommended to me by someone close, I thought it would be a no brainer. I have had one office visit so far, which was during COVID, and was...interesting. The staff was very attentive and helpful during my visit. I enjoyed working with all of them, but no one seemed to want to speak for more than a few minutes at a time. It's as though they expect everything to be exceedingly concise. Mind you, this is my initial appointment and my previous PCP office has yet to send my medical history, and I have two chronic issues... Dr. Cortez enters the room and proceeds to remove his mask. Then sees my face and puts it back on under his nose, and then simply removes it altogether after a while. All during my explanation that I have asthma and other issues... Since then, I've had various issues in calling their offices. They have a lunch break from 11:45am-1:30pm which is lengthy, but have called a little after 11:30 am and they already had their answering service setup. The answering service is terrible, unhelpful, and states that they are not allowed to take messages for the doctor. They only deal with issues that require them to call the oncall doc or the PCP himself, apparently. When I have finally reached medical staff, they don't seem to fully annotate who receives call or document all calls with patients. They never know who said what until they look deep into the system, and some phone conversation I've had requesting medication updates have not been added or followed up on until I call again. I'm still giving this a chance for the first year to see what happens, but am wondering if I'll remain with this office for more than that. So far, it's up in the air. If you are looking for an office that will be on top of everything, Followup with you proactively to manage your health, I don't believe this is the place. If you are looking for someone that will basically follow what you say and just be there if you call, for the most part, then maybe this is more your speed. read more

Love Dr.Cortes and his wonderful staff ! He's been my doctor, my children doctor and many of my friends doctor for over 10 years ! I agree - great doctor but wait time is always excessive. I am always early or on time for my apppointments and just the lobby wait time alone is around 50 - 60 minutes!! My last appointment I waited 1 1/2 hrs(!) in the lobby and lucklily just a few minutes in the exam room. I really needed to be seen otherwise I would have walked out and gone elsewhere. The doctor and staff are excellent - they should work on not overbooking though. Our time is valuable too. read more

Dr Cortes is a good Doctor, this review would be much better if he was ever on time. He is always running behind and seems to always over book his appointments. While he is a good Doctor, he should be conscious of people's time. read more

Dr. Dennis Cortes offers a weight management program where I was freely prescribed a combination of medications including, phentermine- to suppress hunger, thyroid pills- to boost metabolism (despite the fact I don't suffer from any thyroid issues and I informed them of this) and HCG through the form of injections. The sale of HCG is done ONLY as a cash transaction and can be picked up as many times as the patient would like. There is no control over quantity and substance abuse. There is also no control over the sale of expired HCG which has been sold to me already 3 times. The staff at his office DOES NOT look at the expiration date and if the patient isn't aware of it, they will walk away and inject themselves with expired HCG. I find this medical practice to be unethical, unprofessional and there is no real concern over a patients health. read more

Shockingly horrific doctor and staff. This doctor is bound to kill someone, if he hasn't already. I visited Dr. Dennis A. Cortes several months ago and he sent me to do a CT scan. The results came back normal. I followed up a few weeks later. He came in the room didn't bother to have me put on a garment, he proceeded to examine me and within 2-3 minutes diagnosed me with gallbladder issues. What he didn't do was review my lab results to see that the CT scan revealed that my gallbladder and other organ functions were all normal. I had to remind Dr. Cortes of my test results. WTH. He stepped out of the room and went to review my test results. He came back 5 minutes later and said, "You're right it's not your gallbladder." Luckily I'm a patient who's on top of things. Had I not been, this doctor could've sent me in for unnecessary surgery. It's sad how doctor Cortes has lost his way and forgotten why he became a doctor in the first place. Let me remind you - it's TO SAVE LIVES NOT DESTROY THEM. read more

Dr Dennis is unprofessional . He started to talk to me about his personal relationships and was thinking about the wrong impression. Later in the office call me to cancel appointments twice. During the last visit I knew before my lab results by email and they were on the range. I went to the appointment any ways and I had to wait 50 minutes after that I was expecting an advise and he told me that why I sent s message by FACEBOOk about it. I was in shock when he said that. I answered him that I was not friendly with Facebook. He is unprofessional when I was waiting for my prescription I heard complains about his treatment as well. Two week later I received a letter from him that said that he withdraw me from his patience list. I think he makes me a favor. read more

I was patient for years. I am a diabetic on testerone . When I lost my job the dr could not provide a cheaper alternative to testerone I was taking, don't even know if he got any of my messages. Towards the end the office manager refused my metformin , diabetic med ,I asked to hear from dr , never did but they did give me a script for metformin, don't know how much dr is aware of office issues but I cant have an office manager in charge of my health . Office manager is rude and disrespectful. When I complained about the service I was hung up on. Doctor stops in the of patient consultation to take a very loud/angry personal call. Takes two hours to see the doctor. The doctor rushes the patient through the visit due to the amount of people waiting in the waiting room. read more
