Lovely theatre inside one of the UofM buildings. I had never been before so I got a little confused…read moretrying to find the place (it's on the 2nd floor of the building) and then when I did I discovered I had to visit the box office which was back on another floor to buy my tickets. The line was a bit long and I had arrived REALLY close to curtain so I was stressed but once I got to the front it was relatively painless. I sat in balcony and had a lovely view of the stage. The seats were fairly comfortable (I didn't even need to get up and stretch during intermission!) and I thought the sound in the space was fantastic. The decor is not ornate like a lot of theatres around here but it's still lovely and filled with a lot of beautiful dark wood detailing. Parking in the area can be kind of sticky but I did luck out and found a meter spot right next to the building. But don't count on that. There's a parking garage a little west of there. Leave early to give yourself ample time to park there and hit the box office if you don't already have your tickets in your hot little hand.

Amazingly enough every time I went here I got a groupon discount for the opera or a play, so its always been a really good deal at something like 2 for $20. A great date night outing with your special someone if you happen to catch an event (or a groupon). Once you do find this place, it is a very beautiful theatre, with a strong 'well worn' feeling to its stage, the type of feeling that tells you "great things happened here!". The Opera's we've seen were all very enjoyable, and each time we had a blast. The last one however, had some issues with the guy manning the projector for the translation (italian to english). In some cases he would either be too slow, and then quickly skip through sections of dialogue and in other cases you could 'swear' that they spoke more than the 8 words being projected. Either way, overall a great experience. Technical difficulties happen, so I'm not too hung up about it, it didn't detract from the overall store of the Opera.

This prices does not include laser tags not bumper cars. I'd say expect to spend AT LEAST $50 PER PERSON especially if you want to get a ride on the bumper cars & do the laser too. As you might guess from the name, Devil's Lake Yacht Club is the flagship club for Devil's Lake. It's for members and invited guests only, so I felt like a real high roller when I got to go recently! Recently remodeled, I loved that they kept the grand old bar, with the addition of some stylish and comfy barstools for congregating around and chatting with friends. Instead of grabbing a drink that night, we headed over to our table, where a friendly server greeted us and took our orders. This evening it was the fried chicken dinner all around, with the option of white meat, dark meat, or combo. While we waited, we munched on warm rolls and enjoyed the view on the lake. A short time later, our dinners arrived, and it was some of the tastiest fried chicken I've had in a long time. The crust tasted like a mixture of cornflakes and buttermilk, with just the right amount of seasonings. I got some green beans and mashed potatoes on the side, both of which were delicious. Maybe it's my good memories of coming to the lakes as a kid, maybe it was that it was the perfect end to a perfect Sunday, but the dinner at the Devil's Lake Yacht Club hit the spot for me. I started college in Ann Arbor in 2010 and one of the first places I visited on campus was the Arb,…read moreso please tell me why it took me 13 summers until I finally attended Shakespeare in the Arb after finding out about it on day 0 of my college years! I am positively KICKING myself for not having come here every year to watch these productions because it was SPECTACULAR! This summer (2023) they did Much Ado About Nothing and it was just delightful! Bring a camping chair or blanket to sit, something mobile and comfortable, as seating is not provided AND you will be getting up and moving with the play as you go! THAT'S RIGHT -- this is a moving play and they take you to different pockets of the Arb to serve as backdrop to different scenes throughout the play. It was so delightful and exciting for them to do that and I so beyond enjoyed this aspect in particular about it. There is no photography allowed, so you'll just have to take my word on all of this! But truly, the marriage of the theater and the environment was perfect and I can't wait to turn this into a new Ann Arbor tradition to attend every summer from here on out! I am so curious to see how a Shakespearean tragedy would suit this atmosphere! The comedy was delightful and I'm kicking myself some more that Midsummer Night's Dream, which they JUST did in 2022, will probably not be returning to Shakespeare in the Arb anytime soon as that is possibly my favorite of Shakespeare's plays of all time!

Sure, it sucks that that new management came in a few years ago and painted over a lot of the old scribblings. The place has luckily regained more posters & records covers, etc. to adorn the walls. You know what? The kids here are still kinda the same -- at least in all of the important ways. When I played a show here a coupla years ago, I met a super-cool gal who reminded me of a reflection of myself at 19 or 20 -- into poetry and rock and roll. We chatted about X, and I knew that the Halfass was in good hands of this next generation. This is where I ate many greasy pounds of tempeh and curly fries in school. It's also where I poured my broken 19-yr old heart out to friends working behind the counter, then used my meal card to buy and down an entire pint of Ben & Jerry's. Not too much later, I got to do my laundry (the washers were right on the other side of the wall) while watching Low. Throughout the years the EQMC consistently brings in great bands -- both local and touring. They also provided a home for the first few ever Bang! dance parties. I first spotted my current sweetheart here. I brought him along to a show here to get the official stamp of approval from a best friend while seeing Saturday Looks Good to Me. Who knows -- without the trifecta of the Halfass, the Pirate House (RIP), and the downtown A2 Kinko's, my life may have taken a very different course. But thankfully, the Halfass was and remains there -- providing delicious greasy-ass food, pretty reliably great people, and a little incubator for musicians and students with plenty of all-ages shows.

We have seen multiple performance here over the years. The most recent being Emma's Wedding. All of the plays and performances are fresh and designed to make people feel good, laugh and maybe walk away with a few thoughts about the experience. The first floor is the ancient Middle East, Egypt, Cyprus and Greece. The upstair has Roman and special collections. The collection is very ancient and interesting. The visit takes 30 minutes.
