It's a bare bones discount airline that gets you to Tokyo. The seats are adequate for a six hour…read moreflight; for the 11 hour westbound trip, that much time in those seats can get a little bit brutal. The meals are not good at all so pack your own food. They weigh your carryons at check-in, but it's easy enough to load your bag up with food afterwards. On board purchases of snacks and drinks are reasonably price. Free Internet for everybody but it doesn't really work when you're over the Pacific.

Come with ample time. The line for check-in was long because each passenger is required to weigh their carry-ons and check-ins. No screens on the plane. Must have a tablet or phone loaded with games or movies. Internet is barely usable on the flight. You may or may not be able to send messages. Eat something before the flight. Bring a bottle of water and a snack. You'll survive the 10 hours. Zipair is great if you are an efficient traveler. I go with almost nothing. Literally just carry-on a laptop, tablet, charger and tooth brush. When I come back, I buy multiple luggage check-ins for all the omiyages. I also love that buying roundtrip won't give you a better deal. Meaning, if I'm not sure how long I want to stay in Japan, I can just buy a one-way ticket without losing out. Last note, if you're just going to go with check-ins and coming back with check-in luggages, you might be just better off with the bigger companies (united, ana, american, etc).

I've been a loyal Delta flyer for a long time, but the service we received at SJC this past Sunday…read morenight was on another level. We had just checked our bags and were heading toward security when my daughter--who literally just turned 18--realized she had left her driver's license inside her checked suitcase. In a total panic, we rushed back to the counter and saw her bag already moving down the belt, disappearing behind the rubber curtains. We flagged down a Delta agent named Lydia, and she was a total superstar. Without a second of hesitation, she sprinted to the emergency stop and halted the conveyor. The bag was already through the curtains, so she actually had to reach into the "void" of the baggage highway to physically haul the suitcase back out so my daughter could get her ID. If she hadn't moved that fast, our entire trip would have been derailed. What was most impressive was her attitude. Even though we were stressed and rushing, Lydia remained incredibly positive, calm, and reassuring throughout the whole ordeal. If you're flying out of San Jose, hope you get Lydia at the counter. She turned a potential travel disaster into a minor hiccup with a smile. Delta, give this woman a raise!

Delta is the primary airline I have used my entire life! This layover often seems counterintuitive when flying to Los Angeles, Hawaii, or other western United States destination. It becomes a tolerable nuisance after a while. Delta's SkyMiles program is good, too. I've never accumulated many SkyMiles to be able to comment on that program. I do like the Delta app., too, app flight check-ins are a breeze! I've enjoyed Delta Sky Club airport lounges as guests of members and these experiences have always been pleasant! It's nice to have a private lounge to enjoy during the business of travel! Any interaction with a Delta employee has been pleasant including changing flights on several occasions! Thanks, Delta, for consistently providing excellent air transportation over the decades!
