After several chats, then a costly ($1,582.45) visit to Tesla Santa Clara-Northwestern Parkway, Fernando installed a new sheet of Expel XR Black Ceramic to my new rear backlite glass for no charge, as promised. As first reported, my rear defroster ribbons were damaged pre-install. This Tesla service center claims this to be wear and tear for a 2018 M3, even when simply cleaning the rear glass. Online chats and Tesla forums will show that some Tesla service centers will cover this defroster failure for no charge as "goodwill" or "defect," -- just not "warranty." My apologies to Fernando as when he said "cleaning," he really meant a simple cleaning of the glass prior to install! It could have happened to anyone -- including me. It was not clear to me at the time what could have happened to cause this type of damage. My bad for the misunderstanding. (I suppose the takeaway here is it's best to get your car tinted when the rear defroster is new, not after years of sitting in the sun.) And, after further review of my original invoice, Fernando did give me a cash discount as a gesture of goodwill. I look forward to returning to GSAG&T to get my other vehicles tinted.

Not only were they running a promotion, but they also use top-of-the-line XPEL PPF, which gave me a lot of confidence in the quality. I ended up doing a full body matte PPF, along with XPEL tint on my front windshield and both front windows, plus a satin matte ceramic coating. I just picked up the car yesterday, and everything looks dialed in edges and corners are clean and properly finished. Alberto was solid throughout the whole process: transparent, easy to communicate with, and he delivered the car right on the timeline he promised. A couple days later and my beater/go kart i3 has a beautiful roof again that should last years to come while getting beat down by UV outside. Folks with BMWs that have carbon fiber roofs (i3, m3, m4) may see this happen in 7-8 years if the car sees a lot of sun. It's a common problem where the epoxy coating layer starts to delaminate from the CF. It's further expedited with moisture (rain and sun cycles). Getting the roof prepped then PPF'ed with the right material restores the aesthetic of the car and protects it from recurring. I'm happy with the work and will keep AV in mind for any future wrap needs I may have.
