Spring has sprung, the grass is ris, I know exactly where the birdies is...
Yup Spring is definitely here and so is yard work. We had to make a trip to the Eco Station after spending the last two weekends pruning trees and hedges, cleaning up the yard and getting rid of junk that had been collecting all winter.
The Eco Station is a great thing to have for a number of reason; I can get rid of the organic debris from my yard and know it'll be composed by the city, large items (like our dead beer fridge) can be recycled into something else, the household chemicals (oil containers, garden chemicals, paints and cleaners) are properly disposed and it can be done at one location.
The Eco Stations take corrosive cleaners, paints and stains, automotive left overs, lawn and garden items, lights, appliances and scrap metal, batteries, construction scrap, large bulky items like mattresses and couches, etc. and loose waste from your yard like branches, soil, gravel, tree roots, etc.
There is a fee for dropping off items and it's based on weight. The fee is nominal considering what you're dropping off as well as the time and cost it would take for someone to do if for you.
I feel better knowing I'm not throwing my "junk" away but rather giving it second life. Also, knowing how much thinks can pile up I'm becoming much more aware of what I have and what I need. I'm attempting to keep the mantra "one in, one out". So far so good. read more
