I have been going to this bottle depot for many many years because it is the one closest to my…read morehouse. Many people have complained about them short-changing them on their bottles. Since I have read those reviews (summer 2014) I have been keeping track of my bottles that I bring in. I don't pre-count them but I just count along as the staff does their count. For the last 4-5 drop-offs that I have had since I have not noticed any problems. I do take a few stars off this review because the place could be kept a bit cleaner. I dropped off bottles this morning and my shoes were sticking to the floor and it wasn't even 10am yet. I guess they could have been super-busy and someone made a mess with their bottles but overall this place needs a good cleaning inside and out. I have been to much cleaner and nicer bottle depots. The staff don't talk much to you, or at least I haven't noticed it. They seem to be all business and focused on the work. I try to hit this place during the work day if possible. I have found that it isn't too busy during the day. Most of the time I am able to park right out front and if I wait there is a small line-up only. I think after regular work hours it can be busy. A lot of the Strathcona and area bottle pickers take their hauls here so you may see people with shopping carts and bikes full of bottles. I have never had a problem with them and I actually find them very nice to the other customers. They have let me go ahead of them a number of times. They do contribute to the mess outside though. There is often empty shopping carts outside and down the alleys. So overall I like this location for me because it is convenient and I haven't had a problem with miscounts. I do wish they would take a bit more care in the look and feel of the place. It could use some good cleaning inside and outside to bring it up to par to some of the other bottle depots around.

Better than taking your stuff to the dump!…read more The Eco Station is GREAT for taking recycling your electronics, paints (they have a free pick up program), scrap metal (think trampoline or swing set), and large household furniture that is broken. They do their best to sort through it later so that it doesn't just fill up a landfill. The staff are always FRIENDLY - yes, totally they are - and helpful. Absolutely love this place. At times the line up can be quite long so you're better off going during the middle of the day. Fees are quite reasonable for disposal here and some items are free to leave here like electronics. I know people can make a mistake in counting empties, myself or the depot employee. And I can't find anywhere information relating to variance in error and what is acceptable and what isn't. Throw in the donations as well for the charity they support and I wonder about the transparency, mo itoring and control that either exists or doesn't exist! I bet if AGLC was in charge of regulations and procedures of bottle depots there would be way more stringent counting and perhaps use of counting tech to ensure no one is shorted either the operator nor the the indidual seeking reimbursement. Decent location for an eco station. Needed to drop off my two larger recyclable items - TV & air…read morepurifier plus the regular amount of household batteries and broken cords we all accumulate over a year. For those not familiar with eco stations, most things you bring in you don't get charged. Only of it's things they can't recycle or if it is plain garbage. For my case I didn't pay anything and can't good it wasn't going into the landfill. Friendly staff at this location and they all will ask enough questions to help get a person to the right areas/assist with unloading. Bins are decently spaced out for good flow of traffic and ease to pull up. Bin area and surrounding lot was well cleared of snow. The main centre yesterday was operating with one bay (#2) and still had numerous staff on hand to help unload and sort. As I was driving in, I noticed some great examples of upcycled Christmas cheer and I'm kicking myself for not taking more photos of the creative things like the tire Christmas tree. I do want to warn yelpers that this location has a very subtle entrance (you see a very clear large sign for the eco station but not at the entrance only at the curb along the street driving up to the actual entrance and less clear sign positioned further back indicating the entrance of the eco station roadway). It oddly has a much longer road than most to enter winding around the 1/2 the facility (assuming that's in order to help with summer higher traffic flow, as I've seen other stations back up with vehicles waiting on the main streets before but I mention this as one you turn in there's no getting back out until the official exit). I don't mind that bit of extra driving and as I was one of the few there, it was quick but I found it odd that a city facility doesn't have the road cleared within its fences but only the yard area of the bins. So definitely make sure you have winter tires to make it in and out of this facility area if you go during the colder months of the year. I also want to add that I didn't know there was a reuse centre at this location. Unfortunately I didn't know about it until exiting (when taking the photo), so I didn't ask about operation hours nor did staff mention if it was even open or that it was even there. Maybe it has different operating hours at the moment or is closed in winter? Maybe it's like the other reuse centres and not open yet? Who knows during the pandemic, as things can change so much in just a week. I'll be sure to investigate further on my next visit and report back.
