First Cornwell Appliances has been around before I moved to Albany and I have lived here since 1981. They have service my family and friends appliances over the years. I recently had to call Jake myself and what a pleasure it was to converse with him. He is very knowledgeable, honest and straight forward. Something you don't see anymore. I was very disappointed and not satisfied with my experience with Cornwell Appliance. Even though they allegedly wanted to make things right and leave the situation with me satisfied, if anything they made me angrier and angrier throughout the process. The bad reviews of the repairman coming for only 10 mins is true and charging us $100 - no bill, no invoice, nothing to prove you paid. Very unprofessional! He also never said his name and was not interested in explaining anything that was wrong with our dishwasher at all. He did call us later only to again, repeat exactly what he said, which was "well that's all I can do". Is it? And he wouldn't accept anything but cards which I think a business that has been around for "40+ years" should have proper procedures in place to accept other forms of payment. It just makes me feel like they're asking for a card so they can just charge you regardless. The crazy thing is, he left the dishwasher we needed him to look at more broken than it already was. We tried to run a cycle, like he suggested, and it sounds worse and doesn't even run a cycle. Absolutely unacceptable to me. Will not be calling or going back to Cornwell appliance and will not recommend to anyone - seriously stay away! What a headache! read more

Who loves a local appliance company in this day and age? I mean, you go online, and do your product research. Then find a place with a good price that offers free shipping. Soon your shiny new appliance shows up at your door, and you're good to go. Just for fun I decided to call this local shop to see if they could beat the price for the Speed Queen washer of my dreams. The price was the same, and the delivery was free. But Cornwell also included installation of the new washer and removal of the old broken piece of junk in the price. Plus they are an authorized Speed Queen dealer, and had ample stock. So they were able to get it into my house the very next day. Everyone involved, from the people on the phone, to the delivery and installation crew that showed up at my home, were personable and efficient. They came when they said they would, put in the new machine, and took everything (including the box) away. I couldn't have asked for anything more. And now I've got a crazy long warranty on this awesome washer. In the off chance something goes wrong, I'll call Cornwell for service. Given how easy and painless the purchasing experience has been, I have every confidence that future dealings with them will be equally excellent. What an unexpected surprise. read more

Trying to find a apartment sized range was seeming to be a task, every major brand store had them on back order and there's nothing that can be done about that. Jake from Cornwell was very helpful. They had one in stock and made arraignments with me to be able to pick it up the same day! The price was fair, to be honest it was cheaper than Lowes or Home Depot. Jake helped me load it, & gave me tips for unloading and installing it. He evemade sure I had the correct cord, I'm very satisfied!! read more

What a waste of a call. I called looking to set up a fridge repair. Gary suggested that we bring the fridge to him! He acted annoyed, asking me if there was someone closer that I could call. He was not interested in helping whatsoever, and even suggested he might have to make 'multiple trips' causing it to be expensive. He was trying his best to make me look elsewhere. His tone was irritating, asking me to repeat things, and overall he was a jerk! Of course he never called back to set up with service, which I expected, but after the call I didn't want to give him our business anyway. It doesn't matter because I immediately found another repair place WORTHY of our business. Avoid this place if you need service, because if they have to go out of their way to get to you (even if they say they cover your area), they honestly could care less, and literally will leave you hanging. Gary is lazy, rude and has no business dealing with the public. I had a good laugh for the rest of the day thinking about his request to haul the fridge to him. Pathetic! read more

I get the appeal of big-box stores. We stick with what's familiar even though it might not be what's best for us in the long run. That was until I realized that I'm not leaving my house anytime soon and there's a great long-term payout when you work with local companies that provide great service and only offer quality appliances. I did my research on a washer and dryer. Went all over. Local, big-box, online... Why did I know that I was going to purchase from Cornwell above everywhere else? Easy - when I first walked into the store I told one of the guys hanging around the entrance that I was looking for a washer and dryer. His first question back was "What's wrong with your current washer and dryer? Why don't we just fix it?" I knew this was the place for me. Fast-forward six months and my dryer finally died. I walked back in the store and had pretty specific dimensions for the space - the smaller the better. 20 minutes later I walked out with a delivery date and some work to do to take down some shelves. Delivery day comes and Gary and Jake really went above and beyond. This delivery was probably a nightmare to them but they kept the mood light. My old Albany house had some custom built shelves that any other delivery person would have taken one look at and immediately left. They made sure to get my new washer & dryer in and I am more than pleased. They even fixed my front door that was having issues for years on the way in, and left me with some maintenance tips for my fridge. Needless to say, they now have a customer for life. read more

We have been wrestling with ice build up in our freezer for months. The one morning this week the fridge started to feel warm. We resigned ourselves to having to purchase a new fridge but until then having to blow dry the ice away - which is NO FUN! I don't know why it took me so long but it finally popped into my head to call a repair man. I asked a co-worker who recommended Cornwell. Words can't describe how pleased I am. I wrote a review back in 2019 detailing how happy I was with the service provided by Cornwell and now I can say as a repeat customer I am still just as happy. We had our microwave replaced, as well as a microwave and a washer in our tenants unit, and Jake and the guys at Cornwell did a great job communicating with us about our numerous orders and installations. We will continue to recommend this company. Prices are fair, and for me it's all about the customer service and this is where Cornwell knocks it out of the park. I have used Cornwell Appliance for repair and buying new since moving to the Capital District 30 years ago. I can't say enough good things about them. Every appliance I have ever purchased from them lasted longer than I could have ever expected. They are also the smartest repair people I can imagine. My heating unit in my oven broke apart and needed a replacement so as I searched online I saw it was between $18-$23... other stores .my husband didn't want to wait so we drove the 30 miles to get it in person, well I was told it was $60! You have a choice when your dryer decides to quit working- spend too much to buy a new one, or call Cornwell to come fix it. Our trusty dryer is 20 years old. We decided to give these folks a try at bringing it back to life. In about an hour they put in a new belt and new bearings and the dryer is humming like brand new. Our washer/dryer is a stackable appliance, and so I guess Cornwell probably saved me at least a thousand dollars. Friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient- give them a try. read more

I called this local company instead of the bigger businesses. I wanted to stay local and give the smaller guys my business. Well, I was extremely disappointed. The representative on phone was very rude and acted like I was more of a nuisance than a potential paying customer. Representative from company came to house to look at a GE stove and washer. Quoted me a price, I said not at this time. He seemed like I was wasting his precious time. Looked at the washer, said it would be about $60.00, I said that was ok. He finished the job, which was a stripped knob on washer. Charged me 135.00. $125.00 for a house call! So much for trying to stay local and small. NEVER AGAIN will I do business with this company. I have a very oddball Bosch washer that I needed to get specifically because the stairway down into the basement of my 110-year-old Albany house is so narrow that nothing else would fit down it. It's been a source of pain for years since I had to get it special-ordered and pay list price, I've had to replace it once already, and its fancy German motor and servo systems break down in one way or another every couple of years. I used the repair people recommended by the store that sold me the washer but the last couple of repair calls they've been less than satisfactory. I decided to try Cornwell after driving by their shop every day for over a decade, and was really surprised by the quality of service. Their repair guru Gary answered my phone call, got the relevant information, bitched about the same problems with this unit that I've suffered through for years (which was actually great because it showed he really knew his stuff, knowing this exact model that well), and came right out. And I mean right out -- he said he'd be there in 20 minutes, he was there in 10 (beating me back to my own house). He expertly pulled apart a few components, found the problem (somehow a penny had gotten through all the filters and lodged itself in one of the mechanisms), put it back together, and it's been working great ever since. He was extremely cordial and when I started complaining again about this particular model he recommended a couple other models that would fit should I want to get another one in the future, and (very important to me) he said he could get used ones that would cost me a lot less. I purchased a stove from Cornwell a couple of months ago since my money was low and I really did not want to pay top price for a new one considering a used one would do the trick. It has been working just fine. A couple of days ago my washer officially died. I called Cornwell and Amy was very pleasant and professional. She asked if I could provide the make and model before someone headed to my home so they could have the possible correct parts when they arrive. I tried in vain to find it but could not. I called Amy back and told her it was nowhere to be found. She said it was okay and said someone should be at my home the next day but would call first to ensure someone would be home. Gary called me the next day and within no time fixed my washer. I used the appointment during my lunch hour and was not late getting back to work. Within a matter of months Cornwell has saved me over $1500. I will use them again and refer them to friends. read more

So, our washer had died and after not liking our GE dryer we purchased about a year ago at Feiden's (a dryer that is AWFUL at collecting lint-at our house it's the half the battle having pets!), I researched washers that would wash our king sized bedding, be top loading, NOT have all the gimmicks...I just wanted an old manual washing machine. I kept coming up with Speed Queen. Not the cheapest but got good reviews so I found that Marcella's and Cornwell sold them. Although the girl I spoke with at the Schenectady Marcella's was VERY GOOD, they didn't have any in stock and it was going to be over a week. As we live in Rensselear County I wanted to see if there was anyone closer. A friend suggested Parisi Appliance House in Schuylerville. The owner was very friendly and helpful although he didn't want to sell to me as I'm too far south for him to service (we are south of Troy). He suggested a few places down here and one of them was Cornwell. He also gave me the phone of one of his independent service guys in Troy who also suggested Cornwell (and another if I was not going with Speed Queen). I called and spoke with a very helpful man who seemed like he had been there forever. So, we went to Cornwell the next day. Now, the "showroom" is basically a garage that's filled to the ceiling with appliances. The garage is in the back down the right side of the house which is on Central Ave on the Schenectady side of the Mobile opposite Fuller Rd. The owner (?) was on the phone but the lead repair tech helped us. We knew what we wanted but he showed us the different models and explained each one but we kept with the basic one. They had many in stock and they delivered it the next day! There was a charge to remove the old one but it didn't bother us. The service was great and I got a good feeling when talking to them. It reminds me of the old places that mom and your 'grandpa used to buy from' back before all these chains were around. Go with your gut. Having been in the kitchen and bath industry for ten years and shopping with others for past purchases...I'm happy with this purchase through Cornwell. read more

Never go here for repairs. I had my washer repaired here a few months back. A piece of plastic to connect the hoses was broken off and was charged the same amount to fix this washer as it would have to buy a new one. Washer makes terrible sounds and can only be used on one setting. I won't ever be going back here. read more

He was a nice guy but charged me 81.00 to tell me what I already knew. I called on his services because my washer was not level and not functioning properly because of this. When he got here, he looked at it, said the floor isn't level and I need to pour concrete. (I live in an apartment.) Then charged me 81.00. He was not in my house for a full five minutes. read more

We recently purchased a refrigerator from Cornwell and are very happy with not only the appliance but extremely satisfied with the service. After calling the "big box" stores to have someone come to service our old refrigerator and was told it would be about a week, I called Cornwell and Jake, the owner, came that afternoon. He was professional and very knowledgeable and, after looking at our old refrigerator, suggested that it wasn't worth fixing (Note to customers purchasing a new refrigerator: never buy a BOSCH refrigerator--they are junk--very expensive with a shelf life of about 7 years!). And although delivery took longer than expected from the factory, Cornwell was very helpful in contacting them on a regular basis for a delivery date. Installation of our new refrigerator was made quick and easy and both Jake and his brother were very professional and helpful. I would recommend them highly. read more
