Nestled into the mountainside away from almost everything it sits peacefully. As I sit in the hammock chair on the giant covered deck sipping my morning coffee here is the picture I can paint for you. They have a couple friendly dogs who nestle at your feet as the breeze moves through the trees. The water irrigation can be heard over on one side of the yard while the chickens are talking to each other over on the other side of the property. I have a full belly from a healthy breakfast. Fresh eggs from the chickens with bacon and some fresh picked apricots and bagel. The owners are so friendly, they will happily get you anything you need.They work non stop to the entire place looking great inside and out. Our room is one of the two available. It is separate from the main house and below the covered deck. We have our own two queen beds, bathroom, coffee, Tv, and fridge. There is even other chairs and coffee table. However the place to be is on the covered porch. The sun comes up over the mountain and warms me as I breathe in the fresh mountain air. We already snuck off early this morning for a little fishing. I love how relaxed I am here. It sounds like they are steadily booked. Plan ahead to get in here, cause it's worth it.

Breakfast is included with the room and the lady there go all out to make a nice breakfast for everyone. Fresh apples off the trees in the courtyard. The rooms were straight out of a romantic and cozy place and time, even though newly remodeled this treasure truly felt alive with history. Over breakfast I found myself daydreaming about getting married to my husband all over again and having the wedding in this classic overnight country hotel. The grounds were very well kept, complete with a beautiful pond, historic barn, and a deer grazing in the field out the window as we ate are breakfast at the huge ol' farm table. Or hostess was also super accommodating with a special gluten free, paleo breakfast for me. I look forward to staying here again, and sinking back into that chair on the wrap around porch as the sun gets ready to set, and the wildflowers sway in the mountain breeze.

We enjoyed a two hour leisurely breakfast while making new friends with the other guests. And sure could have downed our breakfast and been out of there in 15 minutes, but this is one of those hunting lodges that just makes you want to kick back and stay a while. The lodge was built by the current owner, who ran a custom home business, and the grand lodge design was really well thought out, the rooms were really spacious, and we loved how the rooms above wrapped around the big open style living room. This retreat is situated above the river in a truly picturesque high desert landscape.

Much of this grand house is available to guests--a large living room with music and fireplace and a dining room with tea, fridge, and microwave available all the time. Our room had a view of snow covered mountains, a river and chicken yard below. We could walk anywhere downtown from Belle Pepper's, and felt comfortable to let ourselves in when we wanted to. The breakfast was delicious and just enough. Owners, John and Pepper, chatted with us and John ate with us. It was enjoyable to find out their story and to learn the history of the mansion and of the town of Joseph from John.

When we went to bed, we had the nicest rooms with antiques, old pictures, handmade quilts, trunks etc. The bedrooms are cozy and comfortable. Upon awaking we were served great coffee and a very fulfilling homemade breakfast with lots of fruit, stuffed French toast, scones, and apple turnovers. Yummy. After three days, no communication from the owner(s). Called and emailed the owner(s) on 2/28/2022. Left a voicemail and an email message, asking them to contact me and expressing my desire to make a reservation. It is now 3/5/2022 and still no reply to my emails or phone call. We really wanted to stay here but, the owners are obviously inattentive. Not good.

She's a little bigger, brunette with a lot of tattoos. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day, or just having a hard time in general, but there was a meanness in her that was completely unwarranted. Secondly, from a horsemanship perspective, these horses were not in good shape. Dirty, cinched up, waiting on the rail, saddled up in the heat all the day type of "horsemanship". Not my style and definitely not something I recommend supporting. There's a better way and I hope they find it! The only reason I give one star, rather than no stars is because Cindy our trail guide was a gem.
