The service was solid but based on what I had heard and saw it really seems like the customer service is very friendly and great. I got the Italian pastrami sandwich which ended up being 15$ which is pretty expensive in my opinion for a smaller sandwich. Walking in I was thrown off because it wasn't the typical deli or food store, there are a lot of products in a small space. But once I adjusted, and saw all the Italian ingredients they had I was half sold. The owner had the kindest way about him, over all good energy. He made me to delicious cannolis and a sandwich. I have tried the Pastrami Sandwhich and Bresaola, I enjoyed both. That huge because I have always not like sandwiches but these are different the bread is fresh and the balsamic vinegar is good quality. I will say I think there may be a lack of consistency in with how the sandwiches are based on what ingredients are there. The products are more expensive than they would be at the grocery store by a significant amount. The store is filled with grocer specialties imported mostly from Italy, but there are also some imports from surrounding European countries. The real stars are the deli and desserts. This is not a bargain basement meat establishment. The meat and cheese are imported from overseas, and the prices are going to reflect that, but when I ate the sandwich it was so nicely balanced. HUGE plus for having mozzarella di bufala on the caprese for my Napoli people . Nice fresh baked desserts, and on demand filled cannolis. The owner is an absolute gem. The sandwiches we got were Bresaola, Italian Pastrami, Caprese and Italian Tuna, and they were all delicious!! I would say my personal favorite is the Caprese tho. The germaphobe in me cringes to wonder how many children have wandered through and sneezed without covering their mouths. Pleasantly surprised with this place. This is one of those "real" italian places that looks down its nose at any americanized version of their cuisine. And with good reason. The sansdwich tool quite a bit longer than one would expect but I kept my patience by hoping it would be worth the wait. It was! The bread alone was worth the wait, crispy on the outside and delicately tender inside. Ive never had a better baguette. Now onto the toppings: pastrami slices so thin they melt in the mouth, robust slices of a nutty and buttery provolone type cheese, tomatoes that tasted of August although it is November, and a delicious and slightly sweet tapenade pulled it all together. Street metered parking like anywhere else in Bethesda, we walked into the warm and quiet market filled with fresh breads and sweets near the front. The chalkboard menu in the back had our sandwich options and a nice lady took our orders. It is self service for the breaks and cookies so take what you'd like and put it into a paper bag. Our sandwiches were made to order. Meat, cheese, arugula, with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing on a fresh baguette. The sandwiches were delicious and of great quality ingredients. They were not massive, meaning you can eat it lady-like without a mess. They have small tables and chairs on the side amongst a wall of pastas, sauces, and other Italian imports. The man working asked if I had any allergies before preparing our food. When we asked if they had garlic powder he said no, although he was able to recommend a substitute being an "Italian spice mix". We can't wait to try it out! $16 for a 6 inch sandwich is a lot, plain and simple. Add on to the fact that that sandwich is not a meal on it's own. This price point was almost palatable before as the sandwiches were still pretty good--fresh crusty baguette, imported meats, nicely dressed. Today, instead of the imported Italian meats that I ordered on a baguette, I got roast beef and turkey on a week-old grocery store roll that was saturated with balsamic vinegar (almost like it was an attempt to rehydrate the roll and bring it back to life). If you're out of the ingredients, fine, just let me know and I'll get something else. Not a fan of the bait and switch tactics, especially for $16. Not a good way to operate a business.
