I called leadership today to begin the complaint process. I have 40 years in healthcare, 3 years in Oncology, 2 years in Hospice, and I never allowed a patient to suffer their last hours as Cornerstone allowed my father. There was NO organization, no compassion, no care. Knowing on Friday my father would be discharged Saturday, no emergency medications sent to home, wrong address for supplies to be delivered & for my father to be transported... No hospice nurse to meet us in the home to help set us up and assess my father. No appropriate supplies available in an emergency situation. Hospital bed and supplies remain in home 3 days and given a TWELVE hour window on 3rd day as to when they will be picked up. I do not recommend Cornerstone Hospice, as I told Therese on the phone this afternoon; as a healthcare provider I will not recommend Cornerstone to any of my colleagues. There were many other issues that occurred that are to painful to write at this time- please look else where for another hospice for your families care. read more

Our family's experience with this hospice during my mother's final days was deeply disappointing and distressing. During a time when we were told she was deemed "imminent," there were significant gaps in support and communication. A scheduled comfort team visit did not occur, and a nurse declined to go upstairs, leaving us without in-person medical support when we needed it most. After my mother's passing, I received condolence calls from leadership, but I did not receive timely written acknowledgment of my grievance or contact from the grievance team, despite repeated attempts to follow up. Communication was inconsistent, and I was left feeling unheard and unsupported during one of the most vulnerable moments of my life. Hospice care is meant to provide comfort, guidance, and presence--not confusion or fear. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. I hope the company reflects on how their processes impact families in crisis and makes improvements so others do not go through what we did. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. My experience with Cornerstone Hospice was absolutely awful. The representative, Morgan Conley, blatantly lied to me by saying my Dad could stay in the hospital for his entire hospice care. Later, when the hospice nurse came in, she confirmed that this was untrue and admitted that the rep had lied. On top of that, the nurse was incredibly cold, unkind, and showed no compassion whatsoever--exactly the opposite of what you'd expect from someone walking into a room with a grieving family. It was one of the most upsetting experiences during an already heartbreaking time. Thankfully, we were able to switch hospice companies before my Dad officially went on hospice care. But not every family may realize they have that option, and I can't imagine how much worse things would have been if we had stayed with Cornerstone. I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY under any circumstances. They do not care about your loved one's best interests, and they are not forthcoming or honest. Cornerstone Hospice is for the hopeless! Cornerstone Hospice signed my husband but won't provide the promised services. 12/31 Met with Cornerstone Rep - He knew my husband was Covid positive at ORMC from a nursing home and had pneumonia. Spoke to his doctors 1/1 Patient taken off ventilator and fights to live 1/2 He was supposed to go to ICU for monitoring and medicine but ends up on a floor where they won't provide comfort meds. Tylenol for fever takes 70 minutes. Room Ac doesn't work so very hot and no monitoring of his vitals. 1/3 Cornerstone had promised to move him to their care facility but they say they don't have a bed So he is at ORMC but not a patient. Nurses are not all familiar with hospice. I spent the night and the nurse never came in to check. Hospice says sorry they don't have a bed. Cornerstone Hospice won't give me their phone number. I have to page through the nurse who is sometimes unresponsive. It is bad enough seeing your loved one suffer but to try and fight for care that was promised is so upsetting. What to do? terrible. the cornerstone hospice team at dr phillips hospital provided the worst experience of my life when my mother passed. unprofessional, unresponsive, but kept talking about how "gratifying it is to do this kind of work." i'm glad you're enjoying yourself while i watch my mom die. and though i've asked to be removed from their mailing list, they continue to send letters requesting donations every month. just awful. read more

Unfortunately I lost my mom to Cancer in early June 2022. She was at ORMC for a week and was cleared to come home under hospice care. ORMC set me up with Cornerstone and the sales rep made it sound wonderful so I agreed and signed the paperwork. The bed and oxygen was delivered to my home as promised. I was told that a case manager would follow up with quickly and it took her a couple of days. Getting a hold of the nurses was a problem. They make you call an 800 number and the message gets dispatched to the nurse. I got texts instead of calls from these nurses. It was not what I was expecting based on what I was sold by the sales rep. Cornerstone is a corporate hospice that's all about making money from Medicare. They are understaffed and those they do hire, have no empathy or compassion. My mom lasted one week at home and she passed away with me by her side. It was heartbreaking. The nurse I called the night she passed was bothered by my concerns and stated all she needed was more meds. After my mom passed, I did not get any follow up calls from the case manager. They called because they wanted the bed and oxygen machine back. I got a a condolence card about a month later. Do your homework, don't allow these hospitals to recommend their own hospice providers. They care nothing about you or your loved one, it's all about money. I did the best I could to make my mom comfortable during her final days but I could've done more had I had the correct hospice support I was sold on. God bless you all... read more

Their representative at Orlando Regional Medical Center talks a good game but do not be fooled. This hospice was virtually useless as far as support goes.This was in home hospice care and support. I had to call to request a nurse come and show me how to give the prescribed meds. Nurse spent maybe 15 minutes with me. Next day no one showed up even though the rep said someone would be out to assess the patient within 24 hours. Again I called to have a nurse come. A different nurse showed up and was more concerned with what supplies needed to be ordered than with the patient. 3rd day no call from anyone, no visit, nothing. 4th day called and was on hold for 30 minutes. Hung up called back later in the day, on hold for 60 minutes, finally someone answered, requested a nurse come out to assess and was asked if it was an emergency! I said no, I just wanted some services provided, like a catheter put in a bedridden patient ( which should have been done already but since no one was assessing the patient...) and that the patient have some fluid drained. Amazing that I had to request that these procedures be done. Eventually the nurse called me back and came over and helped to clean and turn the patient and put in the catheter and do the draining. I had no issue with this nurse (Roseanne) she was excellent at her job, very caring and calm. She ordered some meds and put in a request to have a CNA come out to help with bathing. She also spoke to me about the condition of the patient and affirmed my thoughts that it was not going to be long before the patient was no longer with us. She also called the next day to check and see if the meds had arrived and said that no CNA was available. Also the social worker (Pam) and the Pastor (Jeff) called and came over to visit . Also received a phone call from administration (Charlotte). I told her I couldn't talk at that time and she said she would call back. She eventually called back 5 days later, the day the patient passed away. Pam and Jeff were wonderful. They answered any questions I had and visited with the patient. They apologized for the difficulties I was having getting services and assured me that they would notify the team as to what was going on. 6th day no contact with hospice. 7th day meds arrived and nurse (Jennifer) called to schedule a visit. She showed up drained, medicated and checked vitals. 8th day, Jeff called to check on us and CNA called to schedule a visit for Monday. 9th day no contact with hospice. 10th day no contact with hospice.11th day I called the hospice to report that the patient had died.The offered to send out some random social worker, not the person I had built a little rapport with. I told them not to bother. Nurse arrived, pronounced and then was more concerned with counting the meds instead of calling the funeral home. Finally called the funeral home and left. I told her to inform the hospice that we didn't need a CNA to come out any longer but I guess she didn't because a CNA called the next day to schedule a visit.So all in all a totally distasteful encounter and this place should be ashamed of themselves. read more

I met with the Osceola Hospital rep who explained services to the fullest. He helped me understand what hospice is and addressed every question and concerns in regard to hospice care. My mom passed away at home within 2 months of services. The staff maintained constant communication to prevent symptoms. Highly recommend if you are in Osceola County. read more

My experience with Cornerstone Hospice is above reproach. They have been around since the 1980's and have perfected their systems as a result. They run like a well oiled machine and do not turn anyone away; as they are a non-profit. I recommend working with them for anyone in need of hospice or palliative care services. read more

Worst possible experience. I regret to say that I have lost parents and loved ones. Previously I had wonderful experiences with hospice.. Every aspect of Cornerstone care was horrible. We enrolled weeks prior to her death with the expectation that when thing got bad they would come immediately and take things in hand. That was my experience with other hospices. We were very clear that she wanted to be at home. She became confused, frightened and combative when put in a hospital situation. When she finally decompensated we were told we would have to wait for the next day. We were also told that the opiates she needed could not be administered by the unskilled help we had hired. Bottom line we had to stay up and administer her medication. The nurse who came aside from being apathetic and unpleasant quoted medicare regulations rather than what was medically indicated. They used the local pharmacy for her needed opiates and sedatives. When the local pharmacy did not stock what was needed she would have to wait regardless of her pain status. They did not stock essential medications they outsourced it. When we complained we were offered a hospital setting in a care center they owned. It was clear that this was a for profit organization and the only important issue was money and not the care of our loved one. What once was a philanthropic organization has now become for profit with different objectives. I have never seen such disregard for a persons needs especially for health professionals. My stepdaughter received traumatic brain injury She was in Orlando Reginal Medical Center. They moved her from the trauma unit after 3 weeks the doctors informed us that Jamie would have no quality of life and the decision was made by my husband and his ex-wife. Because of COVID, my husband was unable to see his daughter for 21 days. at ORMC. When he agreed to place his daughter into this hospice it was under the 1 circumstance that he could see his daughter at any time. We knew she was limited time at least 72 hours at best. She was moved into Cornerstone on August 15th we called the hospital to make arrangements to see her the following morning We were told that we could not see her until the following morning, that his ex-wife denied him access to allow friends in. They had to agree to put her their together they had equal medical rights. Marie was the caseworker who flat out lied to us. The following morning we received a call at our hotel at 2 a..m that his daughter had passed away. So he was lied to and denied the right to say goodbye to his only daughter. They had absolutely no problem calling us to have her body moved to her funeral home. even though we spent hours trying to speak to someone to let him in the day before with no return call. This is time I will never get back. I will never recommend Cornerstone Hospice to anyone. They lied and then had no compassion at all for him. They were flat out rude. If you want your loved one to die and be treated without dignity and respect, this is the place. My loved one was here only a couple of weeks and died here. The workers here do nothing to save a life, but rather "make the patient comfortable." They do this by unnecessarily giving morphine, even against your will. We had to fight for our loved one's wishes not to have morphine and to remain conscious. It was if they wanted to patient to die quickly. The workers were all cold except for Ellie, Rose and a couple of others. The chaplain was wonderful. I hope you never have to go through the hell that our loved one did and we as a family did at Cornerstone Hospice on Orange Ave in Orlando. When the workers entered the room, they did not talk with our loved one who was in so much pain. They treated him like an object. The worse was when our loved one was dying. The head nurse told us NOT to talk to him the last hour of his life because it would keep him alive and said if he didn't hear our voices, it would be easier for him to let go. My mom stayed at this center for two days after she was taken to ORMC but because she didn't want to do chemotherapy she was pushed off to hospice. A social worker from cornerstone told her script well and made us believe they would help with medical services and it wasn't a place where people only go to die. She was even kind enough to tell us a story about seeing people actually improve and leave, right. My mom spent two nights there and we decided to bring her home after I heard an angry nurse who was written up talk about them not giving food because the patients are going to "die anyway" not wanting to believe what I heard and being emotionally drained I never mentioned it but I told family we need to bring her home. I didn't feel comfortable. We still continued with homecare and they wanted us to start her on morphine which we declined. She was alert and walking around and said she wasn't in any pain. I noticed after awhile they had no intentions on doing things that can improve her health, they just wanted to drug her. Sadly a few weeks later although being alert and active she had a tough night and the nurse talked us into giving her morphine and told us it would help her. It ended up killing her and they blamed it on her illness. That's how they are getting away with legally killing people. It's sickening. I'm looking into legal options. read more
