Where to start? When we received a quote for over $8k to simply replace our existing granite counter with a larger standard piece, using our existing half wall and some table legs we were overwhelmed at the cost. We decided we could do it ourselves for much less. We were partially correct. As with any DIY remodel, the goal posts tend to change as the project progresses. We finally decided on a design and now it was time to find a granite installer. Man, picking out and buying granite/quartzite in Colorado is much like buying a house - once you find the one you like you had better be ready to buy! We traveled to many stone yards looking at gorgeous pieces. Finally settled on one we both liked (a feat all on its own) and picked 3 fabricators from the list of preferred installers. I will admit, Cornerstone was not the first to respond but there was something about their facebook page that felt comfortable. It was important for us to pick someone reputable but local. We wanted quality but not outrageously priced. Like many, they would not put us on the measuring schedule until we secured a downpayment. While hesitant, I went ahead and scheduled. After speaking with Perla on the phone and explaining our unique design, she decided to send Andre out. Andre spent 2.5 hours with us during that session; measuring and discussing our options for the extremely large overhang. Andre suggested a metal fabricator, designed the support, and helped us determine how we needed to install the cleats to support the metal sub frame. After Andre left, I knew I had made the right choice. When the sub-frame was ready, Andre dropped it off. Once we had that installed, a second measurement was completed. One week later - 5 guys, Andre included arrived with the countertop to install. They were polite, clean, took safety precautions and worked diligently until the countertop was installed. The whole process took about 2 hours, including the under-mount sink installation. Cornerstone Granite was professional, followed up with us, and one of the better prices we received. They provided a two hour window and called before arriving. We love our new island - can't wait to work with Cornerstone when we get ready to complete the rest of the kitchen. *Pay no attention to our unfinished floors and cabinet trim. We did our own cabinet install. :)

I had a really negative experience with Granite Marble Designs. For the too long, didn't read…read morecrowd: Granite Marble Designs did not understand the complexity of installing countertops in my house and charged us an additional $616 to deal with it. While I'll go through the details of they said vs I said, I think what it really comes down to is a difference of opinion on what is the customers' responsibility vs the business' responsibility. Granite Marble Designs was unaware of my kitchen cabinets not being level, even after they sent someone out to laser my kitchen. I also mentioned that my kitchen floors weren't level. Regardless of any fault, the countertop installation was problematic. GM Designs got half way through the install on a Tuesday and came back on Friday to finish the job. In the meantime, half of my kitchen had countertops, everything in my kitchen was in my living room and my kitchen sink was in the driveway. We (the customers) had come up with a plan to build supports in order to level the top of the cabinets to finish the countertop install as GM Designs only offered us the option to stop the job midway and for me to find someone else to level our cabinets. Oscar from GM Designs came to my house and approved of the plan that we (the customers) would have countertop supports pre-cut and ready to be screwed in to the cabinets when the team got there on Friday. We also seem to have a difference of opinion here as Mike (the owner) said the reason that we were charged additional cost for labor was because it was our responsibility to have the supports leveled and installed when the installers arrived on Friday. This was not what was discussed with Oscar. I have no idea how to perfectly level something across the length of an entire room. If I was that good at installing countertops I would not have contracted a countertop company to replace my countertops. I don't have proof of this as I didn't record the conversation I had in person, in my own kitchen. With the other issues, I would not have anticipated that this would be the point of contention. After the job was complete, we were charged $616 more than the initial contract. Speaking with Mike (the business owner), he said that was $250 for an extra day of install and $366 of additional labor for the install. I had to call Mike to get a dollar value breakdown for the $616 extra cost as no one replied to my previous emails asking for a cost breakdown. Here's the difference of opinion: I think it's the company's responsibility to assess the job properly and then deal with it. They (the business) maintains that the job was more difficult and that the extra cost is my responsibility. I wish they would have been transparent about the possibility of variable cost upfront. I can see both sides, but just understand that if the job turns out to be more difficult than Granite Marble Designs initially believes, then the responsibility to pay for that may fall on you (the customer). So in total about who took responsibility for what: GM Designs took responsibility for 1/2 of the extra day and charged a discounted rate of $250 vs their normal $500 second day charge. We (the customers) took responsibility for cutting out the sink plumbing and replacing it as the plumbing no longer reached the sink with the change in height in the countertop (about $150 in cost), we came up with a solution to finish the countertop install and make the cabinet supports, cut and painted new trim for the cabinets to hide the gap between the cabinets and countertop, repainted and reinstalled the floor trim that was removed, and paid the additional $616 (about 17% additional cost) to Granite Marble Designs.

We hired this countertop company (Renovate, LLC) to fabricate and install a new kitchen countertop…read moreand window sill in our newly remodeled kitchen. We visited their showroom to view their inventory and make a selection of quartz. All seemed well as we paid our initial deposit for the material and even scheduled a measuring so the stone could be cut to spec. Fast-forward about a month, the countertops were finally installed. Although we were out of town, we did have someone here to let the crew in and sign off on the job. Jennifer (who we'd been dealing with through the entire transaction and process) called that same day for the remainder of the payment. As I authorized this payment, I did let her know I was out of town and would not have eyes on the counters until we returned the coming weekend. She welcomed a call once we returned if there were any issues or questions. Low and behold, the first sight of the project we had upon arrival back at home was the incorrect countertop and damage from installation! I immediately called Jennifer to report these issues and was given the option for a refund of the difference or a full countertop replacement when they had time. We decided to live with the wrong countertops for a few days while we made our decision, which we chose to keep and opted for a refund of the overcharge during my next call to her. Now, clearly, we were charged a higher amount for a better quality countertop even though they fabricated and installed the wrong material. In the past 6 weeks since the installation, I've made numerous calls to their office and have spoken to Jennifer quite a few times in order to get the refund initiated so we can complete our kitchen remodel, which she has assured me twice were being processed. The most recent update I received is that their office cannot, in fact, issue a refund of a specific amount. What a joke!!! They aren't even familiar with their own purchase/refund policy! As far as I'm concerned, our kitchen remodel is not able to be completed until we finally get our fair refund and repair from this company. Please save yourself the headache and financial stress by not hiring Renovate, LLC for your next countertop purchase. This is predatory business practice at its best! Sadly, we were referred to this company by the cabinet company we used, so perhaps they are in cahoots. Either way, there are better and definitely more professional companies out there!

She was so fast at responding to all my questions and quote requests, which I really appreciated. Her customer service skills were top notch! She made the countertop shopping process so easy with absolutely no sales pressure. The ONLY reason why I went with another fabricator was because of timing. Renovate was booked out for a month (for good reason) and I needed to get my kitchen finished ASAP since I was expecting out of town visitors soon. I highly recommend getting in touch with Gabriela at Renovate. During a complete kitchen remodel, she was by far the easiest (and friendliest) person to work with.
